Cadaveric lobar lung transplantation is an alternative for patients whose chest cavities have small dimensions. We present here a case where 1 donor was used for bilateral lobar transplantations in 2 high-risk patients. Coordination between the graft preparation at the back table and the 2 concomitant lung transplant teams was necessary to minimize the ischemic injury of the grafts and to plan for adequate vascular and bronchial cuffs for both implantations.

Little data exist comparing outcomes following BK nephropathy (BKN) vs acute rejection. We reviewed outcomes among recipients who had a primary diagnosis of biopsy-proven BKN or rejection between 1 and 18 months post-transplant. There were 96 cases of BKN and 256 cases of rejections. We compared outcomes of BKN with all rejection combined and also with cellular rejection. Seven of 256 (2.7%) patients developed BKN after treatment of rejection. Accurate diagnosis of allograft rejection can be hazardous and challenging. A strategy that has emerged from experience with vascularized composite allografts (VCAs) is the use of sentinel skin transplants (SSTs)-portions of donor skin transplanted synchronously to an allograft. BACKGROUND: Immunosuppressive therapy is associated with an increased risk of pregnancy complications and may have adverse effects for the newborn. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and the type of early congenital infections and to assess typical markers of infections in neonates of liver and kidney recipients.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 71 neonates born to either liver (39 cases) or kidney transplanted women (32 cases) was conducted. The rate and the type of newborns' infections as well as laboratory and bacteriologic markers of infections were analyzed.

Spinal transplantation of adrenal medullary chromaffin cells has been shown to decrease pain responses in several animal models. Improved potency may be possible by engineering cells to produce greater levels of naturally derived analgesics. As an initial screen for potential candidates, adrenal medullary transplants were evaluated in combination with exogenously administered neuropeptides in rodent pain models. BACKGROUND: Heart transplantation is the most accepted treatment for end-stage heart disease. A review of 1,083 consecutive transplants (1984 to 2001) was undertaken.
METHODS: Adult recipients were divided into quartiles. The last 540 transplants were combined. Three eras were created from these, 1984 to 1991, 1991 to 1995, and 1995 to 2001, with three age groups: 0 to 18 years, 19 to 61 years, and 62 to 74 years.
