Significance: Sickle-cell leg ulcers (SCLUs) are a severe, chronic, and recurrent complication of sickle-cell disease (SCD). There are no official recommendations for treatment. Recent Advances: Only a few studies with a high level of evidence have been conducted to evaluate treatment of SCLUs. However, several studies have been conducted with a high level of evidence to evaluate the efficacy of treatments in venous leg ulcers, and SCLUs could benefit from these treatments, especially when a venous incompetence or an edema is associated. Pathophysiology of SCLUs includes a vasculopathy related

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the response of human pulps capped with a bonding agent after bleeding control with different hemostatic agents.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-five Class II cavities were prepared in 25 caries-free human premolars scheduled for extraction due to orthodontic treatment. The pulp exposures were performed on the occlusal floor. The teeth were randomly divided into five groups. Groups 1-4 were capped with an adhesive system after hemostasis with different agents: Group 1--saline solution; 2--ferric sulfate; 3--2.5% NaOCl; 4--Ca(OH)2 solution. In Group 5, after hemostas

Background: Wampee (Clausena lansium (Lour.) Skeels) is an understudied Rutaceae crop native to southern China, whose fruit features a complex aroma profile with simultaneous sour, sweet, bitter and astringent notes. Although bioactive compounds including flavonoids, alkaloids and volatile oils in wampee fruit have been partially characterized, the tissue-specific metabolic and transcriptional basis underlying its distinctive aroma formation remains largely unclear. Methods: We performed an integrated volatile metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis on the pericarp (peel) and flesh of wampee f

In this study, four different cold extraction methods were used: 1. No Assistance (NA), 2. Enzyme Assistance (EA), 3. Stir-Ultrasound Assistance (SUA), 4. Enzyme-Stir-Ultrasound Assistance (E-SUA). Volatile compounds in tea infusion were extracted and analysed by Headspace Solid Phase Micro-Extraction Gas Chromatography-mass Spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) and Headspace Gas Chromatography Ion Mobility Spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS). The study identified 96 and 56 volatile compounds in the E-SUA group using GC-MS and GC-IMS, respectively, which mainly included aldehydes, alcohols, terpenes, and esters.

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a chronic condition characterized by damage to the intestinal mucosal barrier, resulting in bleeding, increased oxidative stress, persistent inflammation, and immune dysregulation. Lotus Leaf (LL), recognized for its dual role as both food and medicine, has demonstrated significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, its calcined derivative, Lotus Leaf Charcoal (LLC), enhances its astringent, hemostatic, and antidiarrheal effects, positioning it as a promising candidate for the management of UC in both dietary and medicinal contexts. This study

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Digestive problems are common in the general population and may be influenced by lifestyle, emotional status and diet. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of digestive problems in Spanish adults and examined associated factors.
METHODS: Descriptive cross-sectional analysis of anonymized adult microdata from the 2023 Spanish Health Survey was performed. Data were collected using a mixed-mode design (self-administered web questionnaire with interviewer-administered follow-up). Digestive problems were recoded by combining gastric ulcer, constipation, and prescribed

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Streptococcus pyogenes is a common cause of acute bacterial pharyngitis in children and adults. The global emergence of antibiotic resistance and increasing treatment failures have become serious clinical problems. Quercus infectoria galls have traditionally been used in Asian medicinal traditions as an astringent remedy for oral and pharyngeal conditions, including sore throat and related inflammations.
AIM OF THE STUDY: This study investigated the antibacterial activity and anti-virulence properties of Q. infectoria gall extract against S. pyogenes.

While tea tree age is generally considered to influence the quality of black tea, the relationship between tree age and tea quality is unclear. We examine relationships between tree age and key metabolite contents related to tea quality in new leaves of the wild arbor-type tea Camellia tachangensis var. remotiserrata. We report tree age to directly affect metabolic divergence in leaves in spring. Compared with 10-y-old trees, the leaves of 80- and 800-y-old trees have higher flavonoid contents; total soluble sugar, polyphenol, and total amino acid contents are largely unaffected by tree age, b

The present study evaluated the effects of slightly demineralizing treatments on dentinal cavity walls, since some recently developed adhesive procedures are applied over the smear layer. Ten experimental treatments--mechanical, chemical or mechanical/chemical--were applied on MOD cavity walls prepared in vitro with diamond burs. The dentinal surface of a lateral and of a pulpal wall of each cavity was evaluated through scanning electron microscopy, and the effects of the treatments were compared. All treatments except air/water spray removed some of the smear layer, and slight differences wer
