OBJECTIVE: To elucidate factors that contribute to the development of vancomycin resistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
METHODS: Forty-nine MRSA isolates were subjected to passage selection with vancomycin to isolate mutants with reduced susceptibility to vancomycin. One mutant was chosen for detailed molecular and biochemical characterization.

Between 2015 and 2019, a health screening was carried out annually on captive-bred Partula snails prior to export for reintroduction as part of an international effort to repopulate areas of French Polynesia, where the snails were extinct or critically endangered. Twelve carcinogenicity experiments in NMRI mice from two different breeders were started at three different locations between 1974 and 1979. Tumors occurring in untreated control mice were compiled on the basis of histopathological reports. Several morphological alterations of the pancreatic tissue have been described as common findings in hypothermia (e.g. bleedings, pancreatitis, vacuoles). Lysozyme is an important component of the innate immune system. It functions by hydrolyzing the peptidoglycan (PG) layer of bacteria. The human pathogen Listeria monocytogenes is intrinsically lysozyme resistant. Some potential benefits seem to be demonstrated; however, obtaining specimens through this method can potentially compromise the diagnosis depending on the timing of the specimen retrieval, and the impact of longer perioperative time on ischemia and autolysis of the surgical specimen has not been analyzed.
