Robotic-assisted Simple Prostatectomy: An Intrafascial Approach for a Prostate of 470 g.

BACKGROUND: Simple prostatectomy has been established as a management option for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with glands larger than 80 cc.1 Robotic-assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) has been established as a safe and effective management option. This has been reported in multiple studies comparing it with the open approach where no statistically significant differences in complication rates have been found.2 The intrafascial approach is intended to add multiple benefits, such as not requiring continuous bladder irrigation and resection of a

Safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted Burch for pure stress urinary incontinence: a large case series.

Burch urethropexy is one of the earliest and most effective surgeries for stress urinary incontinence. Minimally invasive robotic surgery is becoming more popular in the field of urogynecology. Herein, we present the safety and efficacy of a large case series of robotic-assisted Burch urethropexy. A retrospective chart review was performed on robotic-assisted Burch urethropexy cases performed between 2013 and 2019. Patient characteristics, perioperative data and follow-up outcomes were collected at a single teaching institution. A total of 76 women underwent robotic-assisted Burch urethropexy

Tissue reactions of suture materials (polyglactine 910, chromed catgut and polydioxanone) on rat bladder wall and their role in bladder stone formation.

Suture materials are widely used in urological surgery especially in regions that are in contact with urine. In this study, we aimed to compare polyglactine 910, chromed catgut and polydioxanone sutures according to stone formation and inflammation, congestion and foreign body reaction that occur on bladder mucosa. Cystotomy procedure was performed, in three groups of Wistar female rats, with 4/0 polyglactine 910, 4/0 chromed catgut and 4/0 polydioxanone sutures. All groups were divided into two sub-groups with 4 and 8-week follow up periods. Rats were treated with 20 mg kg(-1) day(-1) Ofloxac

Clinical Outcomes of Total Peri-Adventitial Cystectomy Compared to Conventional Techniques in Pediatric Pulmonary Hydatid Disease.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric pulmonary cystic echinococcosis (PCE) frequently necessitates surgical intervention, but the optimal surgical technique remains a subject of debate. Total peri-adventitial cystectomy (TPAC) is a radical surgical approach with potential benefits, but its use is restricted by technical challenges and concerns about complications. This single-center retrospective cohort study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness of TPAC compared to conventional surgical techniques in managing pediatric PCE. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study included 135 pediatric patients (aged ≤1

Transverse versus Vertical Incision in the Surgical Management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum.

Traditionally, midline vertical skin incisions have been utilized during surgery for placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), as it is considered to maximize exposure and allow for a uterine incision to avoid the placenta. However, literature directly comparing outcomes of vertical versus transverse incisions in PAS is sparse. Our objective was to compare maternal outcomes between patients who underwent a vertical versus a transverse skin incision for PAS.Retrospective review of patients with pathologically confirmed PAS undergoing scheduled surgery at our institution between September 2019 and Novemb

Suspected Placenta Accreta: Using Imaging to Stratify Risk of Morbidity.

OBJECTIVE: This study was aimed to compare clinical outcomes and use of interventions in women with suspected accreta based on the degree of antenatal suspicion. STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study of women with suspected accreta from 2007 to 2019. Included patients had one or more imaging studies suggestive of accreta. Cases were classified as "lower risk" if imaging showed possible signs of accreta including mild or superficial myometrial infiltration, an abnormal uterine contour, an abnormal uteroplacental interface, or loss of the retroplacental hypoechoic zone and "higher

Transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) in gynecological emergencies.

OBJECTIVE: Transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) is an emerging minimally invasive approach increasingly applied to perform many gynecological procedures. Despite a still limited level of evidence, compared to conventional laparoscopy, vNOTES seems to be associated with reduced blood loss, shorter operative time, less postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization time, better cosmetic results and decreased postoperative morbidity. Although growing evidence supports the effectiveness of vNOTES for elective adnexal surgeries, there is still limited knowledge regardi

Aggressiveness - The key to a Successful Outcome in Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection.

16 patients with necrotizing soft tissue infections were managed during last three years in various service hospitals. The experience indicates that there is considerable overlap in clinical findings and bacteriology. The infections seem to be variations of the same disease process, a spreading necrotizing infection. The number of these patients suggests that there is an increasing incidence of this entity. Staphylococcus and coliforms were the commonest organisms cultured in most of these patients. Because of the high mortality rate upto 50% as reported, we advocate aggressive and early treat
