Previous studies in non-clinical populations suggest that obsessive-compulsive symptoms are associated with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis measures and that there are sex differences in these associations. We aimed to replicate these findings in a sample of 57 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and 98 healthy subjects. Current and lifetime OCD symptom dimensions were assessed with the Dimensional Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (DY-BOCS). Depressive symptoms and state and trait anxiety were also assessed. The following HPA axis measures were analysed in saliva:

Perinatal depression (PPD) presents a significant public health concern, often influenced by psychological and personality factors. This study investigated the impact of personality traits, particularly neuroticism, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms on the severity of PPD. The primary aim was to quantify the contributions of these factors to the risk and severity of PPD to enhance early intervention strategies. A total of 47 pregnant women with depressive symptoms per DSM-5 criteria at "Pius Brinzeu" County Emergency Hospital in Timisoara, Romania, were enrolled in this cross-se

PURPOSE: The primary aim of the present explorative naturalistic study was to examine the association of poor insight, avoidance behavior, and not-just-right sensation with baseline parameters including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms, baseline severity scores, comorbidity, and personality traits. A second aim was to examine how insight, avoidance and not-just-right sensation influence treatment outcome.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, 317 medical records from children and adolescents with OCD referred to a specialized OCD clinic in Denmark were recorded for baseline parameters

OBJECTIVE: Subclinical obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms are frequently observed in children and have been reported to predict a subsequent diagnosis of OC disorder (OCD). Therefore, identifying the putative neurobiological signatures of such risk is crucial, because it would allow for the characterization of the underpinnings of OCD without the interfering effects of chronicity, medication, or comorbidities, especially when interpreted within the context of OCD clinical heterogeneity and taking into account normal neurodevelopmental changes. The present study aimed to identify the brain volu

INTRODUCTION: Previous meta-analyses showed that OCD is associated with a substantial risk of suicidal behaviours. Conclusive rates of suicidal ideation (current and lifetime) and suicide attempts based on pooled prevalence rates have not so far been calculated using meta-analysis for the other DSM-5 Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCRDs).
OBJECTIVES: This meta-analysis aims to separately calculate the pooled prevalence rates of lifetime suicide attempts and current or lifetime suicidal ideation in BDD, Hoarding Disorder (HD), Skin Picking Disorder (SPD) and Trichotillomania (TTM)

Past research shows strong links between object attachment and hoarding but has relied on poorly validated measures of object attachment. The Object Attachment Security Measure (OASM; David & Norberg, 2022b) was developed to address this limitation. This study evaluates the construct validity and measurement invariance of the OASM across age groups, genders, and hoarding severity. Participants were 777 individuals recruited via Prolific. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the correlated two-factor structure with two subscales: secure object attachment (SOA) and insecure object attachment (

The DSM-III, DSM-IV, DSM-IV-TR and ICD-10 have judiciously minimized discussion of etiologies to distance clinical psychiatry from Freudian psychoanalysis. With this goal mostly achieved, discussion of etiological factors should be reintroduced into the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V). A research agenda for the DSM-V advocated the "development of a pathophysiologically based classification system". The author critically reviews the neuroevolutionary literature on stress-induced and fear circuitry disorders and related amygdala-driven, species-atypic

Background/Objectives: Poor insight is a clinically relevant feature of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), yet its broader clinical correlates remain incompletely understood. We aimed to characterize the clinical correlates of insight in adults with OCD using complementary categorical and dimensional approaches. Methods: In this single-center cross-sectional study, 80 adults with OCD were assessed using the Brown Assessment of Beliefs Scale (BABS) total score and BABS item 6. Insight was examined categorically and dimensionally. FDR-corrected Spearman screening was followed by complementary

Serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SRI) medications are well established as first-line pharmacotherapeutic treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). However, despite the excellent safety profile and demonstrated efficacy of these medications, a substantial proportion of individuals with OCD fail to attain sufficient benefit from SRIs. In this narrative review, we discuss clinical features of OCD that have been associated with poorer response to SRIs, and we present pharmacotherapeutic interventions that have been explored as augmenting or alternative treatments for treatment-resistant OCD.

OBJECTIVE: Commonly observed subclinical obsessive-compulsive symptoms in healthy children may predispose to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Therefore, investigating the underlying neurobiology may be relevant to identify alterations in specific brain circuits potentially accounting for clinical heterogeneity in OCD without the confounding effects of clinical samples. We analyzed the brain correlates of different obsessive-compulsive symptoms in a large group of healthy children using functional connectivity measures.
METHOD: We evaluated 227 healthy children (52% girls; mean [SD] age 9.

OBJECTIVE: Although atypical antipsychotic agents have been found effective in the augmentation of serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs) for treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in short-term trials, there are few data on the effectiveness and safety of these agents in clinical settings over the long term.
METHOD: Subjects (N = 46) who responded to selective SRIs (SSRIs) in an initial 12-week trial were continued on SSRI monotherapy plus cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for 1 year. Subjects (N = 44) who failed to respond to SSRIs were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 atypical a

Background/Objectives: Although obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is clinically heterogeneous, it is unclear whether specific metacognitive belief domains are differentially associated with particular symptom dimensions in adults with confirmed OCD. This systematic review synthesised the available clinical evidence and explored its implications for dimension-informed case formulation and treatment planning. Methods: In March 2026, PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane CENTRAL and Google Scholar were searched without date or language restrictions. Eligible studies enrolled adults with a confirmed

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence and the severity of different obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms reported by patients with blepharospasm (BSP) with those reported by patients with hemifacial spasm (HFS). We hypothesized that, since patients with BSP present a dysfunctional striato-thalamo-cortical circuitry, they would exhibit higher prevalence and/or greater severity of OCD symptoms than patients with HFS, a condition that results from peripheral irritation of the facial nerve.
METHODS: Twenty-two patients with BSP and 31 patients with HFS were system

Several symptom subtypes of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have been identified on the basis of the predominant obsessions and compulsions. The objectives of the present article were to review the literature on the relationship between OCD symptom subtypes and treatment response and to suggest strategies that might assist with the choice of treatment and improve treatment outcome in patients with various subtypes. An extensive literature search was performed, relevant studies were identified, and their results reported. Overt compulsions were generally associated with a relatively good re

AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim of the present study is to explore the validity of the Padua inventory and two belief questionnaires: the obsessive beliefs questionnaire (OBQ) and the interpretation of intrusions inventory (III).
BACKGROUND: The Padua inventory is a 60-item self-report measurement of obsessive compulsive symptoms that measures both classic compulsive checking and cleaning behaviour as well as various types of obsessions, including impulses. Studies in several countries have provided support for the reliability and validity of the Padua inventory, including Italy, the Netherlands, N

BACKGROUND: Despite significant advances in clinical research, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, OCD represents a difficult to treat condition. The French Association of patients suffering from OCD, "AFTOC" is highly concerned by this issue. A new survey was implemented with the aim of exploring Resistant Obsessive Compulsive disorder "ROC".
METHOD: Patients with OCD and members of the "AFTOC" were included in the survey. A self-rated file was elaborated in order to get the maximum of information on the clinical and therapeutic aspects and conditions of OCD. The full version of "TEMPS-A" was als

The aim of this case report is to underline the importance of possible legal consequences of the behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). This disease is associated with antisocial behavior, impulse control disorder and cognitive and personality impairment, which are often the earliest manifestations of the bvFTD. One of the antisocial behaviors possibly associated with this neurodegenerative disease is pathological stealing. This case report is about a 50-year-old Italian man who had a regular life until 2010. In 2010 and 2011, some critical events occurred: he lost his job, his

OBJECTIVE: Many researchers have considered obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) to be a neurodegenerative disease just like Alzheimer's disease (AD). The most studied gene in neurodegenerative diseases is apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene, and ApoE ɛ4 allele in particular. Although a small number of studies have explored the relationship between ApoE gene polymorphisms and OCD, the link between age at onset of OCD, its subtypes and ApoE gene polymorphisms has not been revealed so far. For this purpose, in our study, the relationship of ApoE gene polymorphisms with age at onset of OCD and its subtyp

BACKGROUND: Along with its high infectivity and fatality rates, the 2019 Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) has caused universal psychosocial impact by causing mass hysteria, economic burden and financial losses. Mass fear of COVID-19, termed as "coronaphobia", has generated a plethora of psychiatric manifestations across the different strata of the society. So, this review has been undertaken to define psychosocial impact of COVID-19.
METHODS: Pubmed and GoogleScholar are searched with the following key terms- "COVID-19", "SARS-CoV2", "Pandemic", "Psychology", "Psychosocial", "Psychitry", "marg
