Major trauma centre clinicians: who cares? A comprehensive study of major trauma centre clinicians: are they prone to increased levels of stress, burnout and secondary trauma symptoms?

OBJECTIVES: Major Trauma Centres (MTCs) treat the most severely injured patients. Clinicals working in MTCs and with trauma victims are regularly exposed to the most severe and tragic cases, which can result in burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress (STS). These can negatively impact on work performances, social relations, physical and psychological health. The present study aimed to investigate whether MTC consultants are at an increased risk of burnout, compassion fatigue, stress and STS compared to non-MTC consultants. It also sought to identify the contributing factors

Children's emerging concepts of resilience: insights from using body mapping in an East London cohort sample of 7-10-year-old children.

BACKGROUND: Understanding resilience factors in children is essential for developing early mental health interventions. Middle childhood is an understudied developmental stage, with many quantitative measures lacking validation for this age group and not capturing diverse experiences. This study aimed to use body mapping, an arts-based method, as a novel approach to understand 7-10-year-old children's concepts of resilience (including definitions and factors that contribute to resilience) in East London. An advisory group of six children commented on the findings. METHODS: Body mapping was in

Validity evidence and clinical utility of the Oviedo Leisure Activities Scale (OLAS-70) for measuring substance-free and substance-related reinforcement.

Substance use disorders (SUDs) can be explained in part by the availability and amount of alternative substance-free reinforcers, which are recognized as the main target in treatment of SUDs. Most questionnaires examining this area assess activities in teens or young adults from the general population and, have not been assessed in the context of treatment of SUDs, and do not address the wide range that is needed in order to plan recreational activities that are incompatible with substance use in clinical contexts, as well as to identify activities that could pose a risk for relapse. Different patterns of neurogenic quadrilateral space syndrome: a case series of undefined posterior shoulder pain.

BACKGROUND: Quadrilateral space syndrome is a painful disorder of the shoulder caused by static or dynamic entrapment of the axillary nerve and the posterior humeral circumflex artery. It was first described in 1983; however, it is an uncommon syndrome that initially presents with nonspecific shoulder pain or selective deltoid atrophy, and diagnosis is often delayed owing to its rarity. Young athletes of overhead sports are more commonly affected by this syndrome. Symptoms of quadrilateral space syndrome include silent deltoid atrophy, persistent posterior shoulder pain, paresthesias, and tend

Impact on Health-Related quality of life after wearing compression garment or not for six months in women with mild breast cancer-related arm lymphedema. A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Women with mild breast cancer-related arm lymphedema (BCRAL) mostly receive treatment with compression garments and instructions in self-care to prevent the progression of lymphedema. However, wearing a compression garment may be experienced as negative and may affect health-related quality of life (HRQOL) more than the lymphedema itself. The aim of this study was to investigate if there is a difference in lymphedema-specific HRQOL, between women with mild BCRAL wearing compression garments or not for 6 months. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Participants with mild BCRAL (Lymphedema relativ

Affective temperament traits may explain high expressed emotion in caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: The negative interactions between Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and their caregivers may provoke criticism, hostility, and emotional overinvolvement that characterise highly expressed emotion (EE) attitudes. In this study, we hypothesised that affective temperament traits of AD caregivers are related to their high EE levels independent from other patient and caregiver characteristics. METHODS: Eighty AD patients were assessed through Clinical Dementia Rating Scale (CDR), and Mini-Mental State Examination. Expressed Emotion Scale (EES), Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa,
