A 30 year old man presented with an initial clinical picture limited to low back pain. Increasing severity of the pain after one month led to his admission to a surgical department and the diagnosis of a large right retroperitoneal abscess. The diagnosis of tuberculosis of renal and urinary tract is made by identifying Koch bacillus in special cultures and using histological examination of surgical removed pieces. Not in all cases the usual pathological techniques are very specific. Using special stain for acid-fast bacilli it can be certified the etiological diagnostic. 13 patients with retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) were reviewed. 10 patients had idiopathic disease and in 3 patients the disease was secondary to temporal arteritis, aortic aneurysm and ergotamine ingestion. We present a case of a man in his late 50s with a history of metastatic prostate carcinoma requiring bilateral ureteric stenting. He was admitted with increasing confusion and lethargy. Technetium-99m-HMPAO (Tc-99m-HMPAO) labeled leukocyte imaging was carried out in 19 patients at 3-5 hr after reinjection. There were no side effects noted. Tc-99m leukocyte images showed gall bladder, colon, kidney, and urinary bladder activity in normal distribution as a result of excretion of the eluted Tc-99m complex. The imaging studies done on 62 patients hospitalized for acute renal infections were retrospectively reviewed. Thirty-six (58%) had one or more abscesses, 17 (27%) had focal or diffuse acute bacterial nephritis, five (8%) had pyonephrosis, and four (6%) had pyelonephritis.
