Decompression for Unerupted Primary Mandibular Second Molars Associated with Physical Barriers: Case Reports.

Primary impaction of primary teeth might be due to genetic predisposition or physical disturbance including odontoma, supernumerary tooth, and crowded tooth. Among them, calcific deposit or odontoma is commonly associated with primary dentition. Early diagnosis and treatment is the key to prevent complications. However, results of treatment may vary depending on the condition of unerupted tooth. Here we report two clinical cases of unerupted primary mandibular second molars with physical barriers such as compound odontoma and calcific deposit focusing on diagnostic means and the importance of

Ectopic nasal tooth: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The ectopic eruption of the teeth into the nasal cavity is a rare phenomenon. It is mostly found incidentally or with nasal symptoms. CASE PRESENTATION: A 32-year-old male patient presented with nasal obstruction and recurrent epistaxis. Nasal endoscopy revealed a mass in left nasal floor along with septal deviation and right inferior turbinate hypertrophy. Sinus CT confirmed the same clinical finding with emphasis on the mass being a foreign body mostly consistent with a tooth. Septoplasty, inferior turbinoplasty, and endoscopic removal of the nasal tooth were pe

Bilateral Maxillary Fourth and Fifth Molars in a 17-Year-Old Female.

Supernumerary teeth are relatively common in clinical practice; however, the occurrence of multiple supernumerary teeth in a bilaterally symmetrical pattern is rare. A 17-year-old female was referred to our department for extraction of impacted third molars. Panoramic radiography revealed two bilaterally symmetrical tooth-like structures adjacent to each maxillary third molar. Computed tomography confirmed that these were independent structures, leading to a diagnosis of bilateral maxillary fourth and fifth molars. In July 2023, the bilateral maxillary and mandibular third molars, together wit

Relationship between dental follicle, gubernacular canal and developmental theories in supernumerary teeth from different regions of the jaws.

OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the characteristics of dental follicle and gubernacular canal (GC) in supernumerary teeth from different regions of dental arches, using CBCT scans of non-syndromic patients, and associate with developmental theories. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sample was composed of CBCT scans of 408 intraosseous supernumerary teeth. The characteristics of the supernumerary teeth, the relationship of their follicular space with adjacent teeth, and the presence or absence of the GC were assessed. Chi-square tests were used to compare categorical variables among supernumerary teeth from differe

Cementum analysis in cleidocranial dysostosis.

OBJECTIVE: Cleidocranial dysostosis (CCD) is a skeletal disorder associated with dental anomalies such as failure or delayed eruption of permanent teeth and multiple impacted supernumerary or permanent teeth. Absence of cellular cementum at the root apex is presumed to be one of the factors for failure or delayed eruption. The aim of this study was to analyze the root cementum of supernumerary(S) and permanent teeth (P) of a CCD patient and to compare the findings with those of normal individuals with special emphasis on delayed eruption. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ground sections of 12 extracted

Crown-root fracture of fused primary teeth--a case report.

In the primary dentition, traumatic injuries affecting the tooth-supporting structures are common due to increased bone resilience in children. Crown-root fracture, defined as a fracture involving enamel, dentin, and cementum, is uncommon in the primary dentition, comprising only 2% of dental traumas. This article reports the treatment and follow-up of a 2-year-old boy who suffered a traumatic crown-root fracture involving a primary anterior incisor that was fused to a supernumerary tooth.

Clinical analysis of supplemental maxillary lateral incisors: a retrospective cross-sectional study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Supplemental teeth are supernumerary replicas of normal teeth. They often involve the maxillary lateral incisors (MxLI), affecting both function and aesthetics of anterior dentition. PURPOSE: To investigate the prevalence of supplemental MxLI through panoramic radiographs, analysing distribution patterns and clinical attributes. METHODS: We retrieved panoramic radiographs of 146,538 patients treated at Suzhou Stomatological Hospital between January 2014 and December 2024. All instances of supplemental MxLI were identified and recorded for statistical analysis (SPSS v24.

Numeric anomalies of teeth in concomitant hypodontia and hyperdontia.

Variations in tooth number in children, each of whom had supernumerary teeth and agenesis of teeth, is described. Among the 11, seven had cleft lip and palate, and two had clefting syndromes; two children had dental anomalies only. Only children who had both supernumerary teeth and congenitally missing teeth outside the area of the cleft alveolus were included. Concomitant hypodontia and hyperdontia were observed in the same dentition in nine subjects, in the same jaw in eight subjects, and in the same jaw quadrant in only three subjects. Supernumerary teeth and agenesis of teeth were observed
