Re-reattachment of a fractured maxillary central incisor: a case study.

There has been a rise in incidence of dental trauma and crown fractures as reported in the literature. Children and teenagers are the most affected age groups, and the maxillary central incisors are the teeth most often affected. This article discusses reattachment techniques for the restoration of fractured teeth when the tooth fragment is recovered after a traumatic dental injury. This particular case study reports re-reattachment of a previously fractured and reattached tooth fragment.

Treatment of ectopically erupting maxillary permanent first molars with a distal extended stainless steel crown.

The exaggerated mesial eruption of the permanent first molar can result in the tooth becoming impacted, or the premature atypical resorption and exfoliation of the primary molar, with a resultant loss of space. A stainless steel crown with a distal guide plane was placed on a primary molar to correct the aberrant eruption angle of the permanent tooth. This procedure can be used successfully for both partially and totally tissue-impacted teeth, and is described in this report.

Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Longitudinal Analysis Reveals a Novel Rare Fainting Wisdom Tooth Phenomenon in Fully Dentate Mandibles.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to characterise the rare 'fainting wisdom tooth' phenomenon, defined as the angular transition of a mandibular wisdom tooth from an initially upright position to mesial or horizontal inclination during adolescence in fully dentate mandibles. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective longitudinal analysis was conducted using panoramic radiographs from a pooled database of 11,932 patients. Fifty cases of fainting wisdom teeth (0.4% prevalence) were identified using a validated deep learning (DL) convolutional neural network (CNN)-based artificial intelligence (AI) tool

Rescuing "hopeless" avulsed teeth using autologous platelet-rich fibrin following delayed reimplantation: Two case reports.

BACKGROUND: Tooth avulsion is one of the most severe types of dental trauma. Most avulsed teeth undergo long-term ankylosis and replacement resorption after delayed reimplantation and exhibit a poor prognosis. The aim of this work was to improve the success rate of avulsed teeth after delayed reimplantation using autologous platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). CASE SUMMARY: Case 1 was a 14-year-old boy who fell and knocked out his left upper central incisor 18 h prior to his arrival at the department. The diagnoses were avulsion of tooth 21, lateral luxation of tooth 11 and alveolar fracture of teeth

Effect of Endodontic Irrigation Protocols on Crown Fracture Resistance.

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the fracture resistance of tooth crowns endodontically irrigated using different protocols. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 76 bovine incisors were divided into four groups (n = 19): irrigation with distilled water (control; CON); conventional irrigation with positive apical pressure (PAP); passive ultrasonic irrigation using continuous flushing (PUI); and irrigation with PAP and heated sodium hypo-chlorite solution (PHS). The force required to fracture the crown was measured on a universal testing machine at an angle of 45°. RESULTS: The CON group had hig

Talon cusp--clinical significance and management: case reports.

Talon cusp is a rare dental anomaly manifested as an accessory cusplike structure on the tooth crown. This article reports four cases of talon cusp that caused clinical problems related to appearance, occlusal interference, tooth displacement, caries, and tongue irritation. The cases presented were associated with other dental abnormalities, suggesting per se that genetic inheritance may be the causative factor. Clinical and radiographic characteristics of this developmental anomaly and modes of treatment are described.

3D-finite element analysis and weibull analysis of maxillary first molar restored with endocrowns with different pulpal extensions compared with conventional crowns with post-and-core.

BACKGROUND: Rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth with large coronal destruction is still a clinical challenge. No established guidelines specify where a conventional crown with fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) post-and-resin core or an endocrown (EC) is indicated and which material or pulpal extension should be used. OBJECTIVE: To provide evidence for restoring severely damaged maxillary first molar (MFM) by comparing the fracture and debonding resistance after being restored with the ceramic EC and the conventional zirconia crown and FRC post-and-resin core. METHOD: Models of a MF

Pulp reactions to restoration of experimentally induced crown fractures.

OBJECTIVES: Reattachment of the avulsed enamel-dentine coronal fragment to the remaining tooth structure has become an accepted clinical alternative to a resin composite build-up for the restoration of crown fractured teeth. Since little knowledge exists as to the pulpal response to this procedure, this study was designed to observe the condition of the pulp following experimentally induced crown fracture and restoration in monkeys. METHODS: Experiments were conducted in eight young green Vervet monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops). In all, 64 fractured incisors were investigated. Light microscop

Evaluation of stress generation in core build up-material of mutilated primary teeth: a comparative finite element analysis between BioFlx, stainless steel and zirconia crowns.

Stainless-steel crowns (SSCs) are the most durable restorative option for deciduous teeth, although they are unsightly. However, prefabricated zirconia crowns (ZCs) look more pleasant but require substantial dental preparation. Recently, BioFlx crowns have been introduced as a white-colored alternative to SSCs, providing both flexibility and aesthetics. However, clinical trials have not assessed their oral cavity load-bearing capacity and suitability for repairing severely decayed deciduous teeth. To address this gap, the present study compared the shear stresses generated by BioFlx crowns, ZC

Evaluation of color stability, wear, and fracture resistance of preformed Bioflx and zirconia crowns: An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: The ideal crowns for primary teeth should be esthetic, durable, and easy to place. Preformed zirconia crowns, although the most commonly used, esthetically pleasing, require significant tooth reduction, lack flexibility and adjustability, and cause wear of opposing teeth. Recently, new high-strength, medical-grade resin polymer preformed crowns have been introduced, promising to address these limitations. AIM: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate and compare the color stability, wear, and fracture resistance of newly introduced resin polymer crowns (Bioflx) with preformed zirconi

The effect of sterilization and disinfection on the physical-mechanical properties of preformed crowns.

INTRODUCTION: Different sizes of crowns may be tried on children since there is no universal crown size because of distinctions in tooth morphology from one child to other. During the process of trial and error, the crown gets contaminated which needs to be sterilized for reuse of crown. This study was carried out to evaluate the physical-mechanical outcome after the sterilization and disinfection of pediatric preformed crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, sixty crowns consisted of 20 each, stainless steel crowns (SSCs) (3M ESPE), preveneered stainless steel (Kinder Krowns), and Zirconia

[Experimental model of tooth mobility in the human "in vivo"].

The aim of the present study was to investigate experimentally the mechanical properties of tooth deflection under external loading. These properties have a significant impact on tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. The stresses and strains caused by tooth movement influence bone remodelling, which is the basis of orthodontic treatment. The movement of a tooth as a direct reaction to the forces acting on it is termed "initial" movement. It is nonlinear and has a clearly time-dependent component. While the initial tooth movement represents the totality of the reaction mechanisms of all

Ridge Preservation Strategies in Children Following Anterior Tooth Trauma.

The sequelae associated with anterior oral trauma during childhood growth may require a protracted period of clinical management to achieve an optimal foundation for future prosthetic therapy. This article presents two case examples of long-term ridge development and preservation in children after anterior dental and alveolar trauma. These two patients were managed for periods of 11 years, one from age 8 to 19 and the other from age 9 to 20, until they were old enough to receive implantsupported restorations. Two different treatment plans were prescribed based on whether or not the teeth in qu

Intrusive luxation: a case report.

Intrusive luxation is one of the most severe types of dental trauma. The occurrence of pulp necrosis in intruded teeth with open apices is 100%. The risk of development of inflammatory or replacement root resorptions is high. Thus, endodontic intervention is required soon after the occurrence of trauma, in an attempt to prevent or delay the appearance of such lesions. On the other hand, the access to the root canal is difficult, as the crown is intruded. A multidisciplinary approach comprising Surgery, Orthodontics and Endodontics is required to allow exposure of the crown, orthodontic extrusi
