Mitofusin 2 expression dominates over mitofusin 1 exclusively in mouse dorsal root ganglia - a possible explanation for peripheral nervous system involvement in Charcot-Marie-Tooth 2A.

Mitofusin 2 (Mfn2), a protein of the mitochondrial outer membrane, is essential for mitochondrial fusion and contributes to the maintenance and operation of the mitochondrial network. Mutations in the mitofusin 2 gene cause axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 2A (CMT2A), an inherited disease affecting peripheral nerve axons. The precise mechanism by which mutations in MFN2 selectively cause the degeneration of long peripheral axons is not known. There is a hypothesis suggesting the involvement of reduced expression of a homologous protein, mitofusin 1 (Mfn1), in the peripheral nervous system, and

Relationships between tooth eruption, occlusion and alveolar bone resorption: histochemical and cytological studies of bone remodeling on rat incisor alveolar bone facing the enamel after root resection.

The labial side of rat incisor alveolar bone facing the enamel is continuously resorbed as the result of compressive force produced by the occlusion and eruption of incisors. In order to clarify the relationship between this mechanical compressive force and the bone cells involved in bone remodeling, we examined morphological changes occurring in the alveolar bone once the compressive force was eliminated by the removal of the proliferative odontogenic base (root resection according to Berkovitz and Thomas, 1969). After root resection, the incisor migrated halfway along the socket. On the cres

Orthodontic treatment of a skeletal Class III malocclusion with severe root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Autotransplantation using a 3-dimensional printed replica of the donor tooth.

This case report describes the successful orthodontic treatment of a 12-year-old girl with skeletal Class III malocclusion and severe root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Ectopic eruption and mesial inclination of the bilateral maxillary canines caused severe root resorption of the right central and lateral incisors and the left lateral incisor. These 3 teeth were extracted, and traction was applied to the maxillary right and left canines toward the extracted right central incisor and left lateral incisor, respectively. In the mandibular arch, the bilateral first premolars were ext

Optimal sites for orthodontic anchor screw placement using panoramic images: risk of maxillary sinus perforation and contact with adjacent tooth roots during screw placement.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the safety of orthodontic anchor screw (OAS) placement by examining the morphology and degree of depression of the maxillary sinus adjacent to the alveolar bone between the maxillary molars. METHODS: We reviewed panoramic and CT imaging data of 25 patients. First, the morphology of the maxillary sinus adjacent to the alveolar bone between the maxillary molars on panoramic images was classified into three types: non-depressed sinus, funnel-like sinus depression, and sawtooth-like sinus depression. Then, the distance from the maxillary buccal bone to the maxi

Utilization of Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Analyzing the Relationship Between the Mandibular Fourth Premolar Tooth Roots, the Mandibular Canal, and Ventral Mandibular Cortex in 81 Small Breed Dogs.

The mandibular fourth premolar teeth (308, 408) and surrounding mandibular bone are subject to pathologies such as periodontal disease, periapical pathology, and mandibular fracture. As such, the locations of these teeth roots in relation to the mandibular canal and the ventral mandibular cortex are important considerations when developing a surgical treatment plan. This study analyzed the 308 and 408 teeth with cone beam computed tomography scans in 81 small breed dogs. There was no statistically significant variance found in distance to the mandibular canal or the mandibular ventral cortex b

Circadian clock genes REV-ERBα regulates the secretion of IL-1β in deciduous tooth pulp stem cells by regulating autophagy in the process of physiological root resorption of deciduous teeth.

Physiological root resorption is a common occurrence during the development of deciduous teeth in children. Previous research has shown that the regulation of the inflammatory microenvironment through autophagy in DDPSCs is a significant factor in this process. However, it remains unclear why there are variations in the autophagic status of DDPSCs at different stages of physiological root resorption. To address this gap in knowledge, this study examines the relationship between the circadian clock of DDPSCs, the autophagic status, and the periodicity of masticatory behavior. Samples were colle
