Access to renal function information to improve pharmaceutical care in direct oral anticoagulant users: a cluster randomized trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are commonly prescribed for the management of thromboembolic diseases and are known to increase the risk of bleeding. Renal impairment is a risk factor for bleeding in DOACs users, making renal function access essential for community pharmacists during the prescription review and dispensing process. However, community pharmacists often have limited access to patients' renal function information. Giving Community Pharmacists full access to the renal function information could help to mitigate this preventable part of the risk of bleeding by optimiz

Access authentication via blockchain in space information network.

Space Information Network (SIN) has significant benefits of providing communication anywhere at any time. This feature offers an innovative way for conventional wireless customers to access enhanced internet services by using SIN. However, SIN's characteristics, such as naked links and maximum signal latency, make it difficult to design efficient security and routing protocols, etc. Similarly, existing SIN authentication techniques can't satisfy all of the essentials for secure communication, such as privacy leaks or rising authentication latency. The article aims to develop a novel blockchain

Women's Engagement With Different Internet-Enabled Technologies to Access Digital Menopause Information: Mixed Methods, Multiphase Sequential Study.

BACKGROUND: Information on menopause can come from a variety of sources, from friends and family to health care professionals, but increasingly, digital information has become a significant source. Digital information can be accessed online, through websites, social media, podcasts, and online groups or forums. The extent to which digital information on menopause is accessed and consumed can vary widely depending on individual circumstances. Existing literature has focused on investigating a single technology at a time in terms of digital menopause information, rather than exploring a wider ec

A qualitative study exploring access to online hearing loss information and support for adults with hearing loss.

INTRODUCTION: This qualitative study explores the barriers and facilitators experienced by adults with hearing loss in accessing hearing-related information and services. Findings were interpreted using the Theoretical Domains Framework, which will be used to inform the design of a novel consumer-centred website-Hear4Health. METHODS: A total of 13 participants (19-78 years) were recruited. Nine consumers with hearing loss participated in the focus groups, four of whom also served as representatives of consumer organisations. 12 of the 13 participants were subsequently interviewed (51.25 ± 20.

Transit bus access to healthy, affordable food: A novel geographic information system (GIS) and community-informed analysis.

Good nutrition reduces the risk of chronic disease, but many vulnerable populations do not have equitable access to healthy food. People who are lower-income, non-White, older, or disabled, have increased likelihood of not owning a vehicle and of being dependent on public buses to source healthy, affordable food. Our study took place in three municipalities targeted by the Rhode Island Department of Health for equity-focused interventions. Our methodology aimed to overcome limitations of prior analyses of public transit food access. We determined healthy food sources, stratifying their afforda

Specialty Care Oases: Utilizing Geographic Information Systems to Evaluate Specialty Care Access for Individuals With Down Syndrome.

Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition occurring in about 220,000 individuals in the United States. Previous research showed almost 1 in 5 individuals with Down syndrome in the U.S. face significant geographic obstacles to receiving specialty care. The purpose of this study was to extend this work and learn more about socioeconomic barriers to Down syndrome specialty clinics. We quantified the percentage of the general population in each U.S. state living within a 2-hour drive of a Down syndrome specialty care clinic. We created a Down Syndrome Specialty Care Access Score to quantify access

Integrative literature review: a review of literature related to geographical information systems, healthcare access, and health outcomes.

Differences in access to healthcare services and the resulting adverse health outcomes are major public health priorities. The Institute of Medicine and the Department of Health and Human Services have identified the need for strategies to improve access to healthcare services and to support the improvement of health outcomes. The literature documents health disparities associated with healthcare access and health outcomes from a geographic perspective. Place of residence, location of healthcare services, and geography in general are important factors in the analysis of health. Geographical in

Unofficial policy: access to housing, housing information and social services among homeless drug users in Hartford, Connecticut.

BACKGROUND: Much research has shown that the homeless have higher rates of substance abuse problems than housed populations and that substance abuse increases individuals' vulnerability to homelessness. However, the effects of housing policies on drug users' access to housing have been understudied to date. This paper will look at the "unofficial" housing policies that affect drug users' access to housing. METHODS: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 65 active users of heroin and cocaine at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Participants were purposively sampled to reflect a variety of housing

Association Between Access to Health Information and Frailty in Older Japanese Adults: Web-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Older adults often access traditional media, such as newspapers, magazines, television, and radio, for health information. However, compared with older adults without frailty, older adults with frailty experience greater declines in physical functions and mental health (including depressive symptoms), as well as social functioning, due to reduced interaction with others, which limits their access to these sources of information. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the health information sources that are less accessible to participants with frailty than to those without frailty

Sexual and reproductive health experiences, access to services, and sources of information among university students in Ethiopia.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescence and youth are times of major growth and change that can place young people at elevated risk of poor sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes, particularly when they are living away from home for the first time. Understanding the barriers that young people face when accessing SRH services and information is imperative for addressing their SRH needs; our study explored this topic among university students in Ethiopia. Specifically, we explore university students' SRH experiences, access to services, and preferred sources of information. METHODS: We draw on mixed-m

Improving access to important recovery information for heart patients with low health literacy: reflections on practice-based initiatives.

Evidence exists for the association between health literacy and heart health outcomes. Cardiac rehabilitation is critical for recovery from heart attack and reducing hospital readmissions. Despite this, <30% of people participate in a program. Significant patient, hospital and health system challenges exist to improve recovery through increased heart health literacy. This brief case study reflects and documents practice-based initiatives by Heart Foundation Victoria to improve access to recovery information for patients with low literacy levels. Three key initiatives, namely the Six Steps To C

Information Access Costs With an Augmented Reality Head-Mounted Display.

ObjectiveThis work examined performance costs for a spatial integration task when two sources of information were presented at increasing eccentricities with an augmented-reality (AR) head-mounted display (HMD).BackgroundSeveral studies have noted that different types of tasks have varying costs associated with the spatial proximity of information that requires mental integration. Additionally, prior work has found a relatively negligible role of head movements associated with performance costs. However, currently no studies have examined the magnitude of costs for spatial integration tasks wh

Representations of conceptual information during automatic and active semantic access.

When we read a word or see an object, conceptual meaning is automatically accessed. However, previous research investigating non-perceptual sensitivity to semantic class has employed active tasks. In this fMRI study, we tested whether conceptual representations in regions constituting the semantic network are invoked during passive semantic access and whether these representations are modulated by the need to access deeper knowledge. Seventeen healthy subjects performed a semantically active typicality judgment task and a semantically passive phonetic decision task, in both the written and the
