Case Report: Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis Caused by Praziquantel.

Praziquantel is widely used for treating parasitic infections globally, especially in countries with endemic schistosomiasis. However, severe hypersensitivity to praziquantel has rarely been reported. We report the case of a 30-year-old Japanese man who developed acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), which is a rare and severe cutaneous reaction usually triggered by drugs, after taking praziquantel. During medical examination, eggs of Diphyllobothrium nihonkaiense were found in his stool. He took praziquantel 600 mg for 1 day and developed skin rashes and fever the next day. Pruri

Carbamazepine-induced acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis: a case report.

A 15-year-old adolescent was admitted to the hospital for management of a generalized pruritic skin rash, which had appeared 10 days prior to admission. Carbamazepine (CBZ) and insulin were initiated 44 and 23 days prior to the onset of the skin rash (day 44), respectively. Clinical examination showed bluish lesions on the tongue and bilateral keratoconjunctivitis. His skin was very erythematous and pruritic without edema and covered with hundreds of nonfollicular pustules mainly on the trunk and skin folds. Laboratory assessment revealed leukocytosis, hypereosinophilia, and thrombocytopenia.

[Case of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis caused by Kerorin].

A 78-year-old woman visited a local clinic because of cough and fever, and was prescribed levofloxacin, carbocisteine, and cold medicine (salicylamide, acetaminophen, anhydrous caffeine, promethazine methylene disalicylate). The following day, erythema appeared on the trunk, and spread. Multiple pustules independent of hair follicles developed on the erythema mainly in the skin folds. Histopathological examination revealed subcorneal pustular dermatosis. The clinical course and characteristics of the rashes led to a diagnosis of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). Although the a

[Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) following intake of furosemide].

INTRODUCTION: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is an acute pustular eruption with unique clinical features, a rapid clinical course and a typical histopathology. The causative agents are mostly drugs but other triggers have also been described. CASE REPORT: A 52 year-old woman with a history of diabetes mellitus type II, dyslipidemia and osteomyelitis was treated for about a year with metformin (Glucophage) and simvastatin (Simovil) tablets. Due to the osteomyelitis, the patient was started on a regimen of intravenous vancomycin as well as furosemide tablets (Fusid) for pedal

Clindamycin-induced acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis: A case report.

RATIONALE: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a severe pustular cutaneous adverse drug reaction. Sterile, non-follicular pustules overlying the erythematous skin characterize this reaction. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 30-year-old Asian women presented with sterile, non-follicular lesions with pus-fluid levels on her back 2 days after taking clindamycin. Skin biopsy revealed a spongiotic change in the epidermis with a focal subcorneal pustule and perivascular eosinophil and lymphocyte infiltration. DIAGNOSIS: Clindamycin-induced AGEP. INTERVENTIONS: We discontinued clindamycin trea

Codeine-induced acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis without IL36RN mutations.

Recent studies have suggested an association between mutations in the IL-36RN gene and the onset of pustular generalized. In the literature, only one case of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) induced by codeine in a patient with IL36RN mutation has been reported. Herein, we reported an unusual case of AGEP caused by codeine in a patient with a history of psoriasis and confirmed by an oral provocation test. In this case, we have shown that the IL36RN gene mutation is not a constant condition in drug-induced AGEP. Clinicians should be aware of this side effect of codeine especial

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP): A review and update.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction characterized by the rapid development of nonfollicular, sterile pustules on an erythematous base. It is attributed to drugs in the majority of cases. Antibiotics are the most common cause of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis; however, a wide variety of drugs has been associated with this condition. Typically, within 48 hours of ingesting the causative medication, there is acute onset of fever and pustulosis with leukocytosis. In severe cases there can be mucous membrane and systemic organ involvement. H

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis is a rare condition characterized by sterile pustules on erythematous and edematous tissue. Mostly drug induced, this condition can also be caused by other factors. Cases due to vancomycin are rare. A 67-year-old woman with cellulitis of the left lower extremity was admitted with marked bilateral lymphedema of the lower extremities and diffuse erythema of the left lower extremity from foot to knee. She was given clindamycin and then vancomycin. On day 5, her condition worsened, with erythema involving the entire back. Although treatment with clindamyc

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis in cystic echinococcosis: immunological characterization.

Voice disorders are routinely encountered in modern Otorhinolaryngology clinical practice. The assessment of voice disorders involves subjective and objective parameters to evaluate the impact of vocal impairments. This study aims to compare the Voice Symptom Scale (VoiSS), Voice Handicap Index (VHI), and Grade, Roughness, Breathiness, Asthenia, Strain (GRBAS) scales in diagnosing and monitoring treatment outcomes in individuals with voice disorders. A cross sectional study of 100 patients aged 18-60 years diagnosed with voice disorders participated in the study conducted at an outpatient depa

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis with erythema multiforme-like lesions.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) resembles generalized pustular psoriasis, but may manifest targetoid lesions, purpura, and blisters in addition to pustules. We describe a case of AGEP with erythema multiforme (EM)-like features in a 35-year-old woman who presented with acute onset of high fever and a strikingly polymorphic eruption consisting of numerous tiny pustules on erythematous bases, marked facial edema, oral and genital erosions, targetoid vesicular and purpuric lesions, pustules in string-of-pearl configuration and ring-like vesicles. The histology revealed, in addit

A Case of Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis Induced by Ceftriaxone.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare and severe skin disorder induced in more than 90% of cases by an adverse drug reaction. This condition is defined by an acute growth of numerous, pin-head-sized, non-follicular pustules on a background of edematous erythema that starts on the face or in the armpits and groin. It is accompanied by fever and increased inflammatory markers. We present a case of a 39-year-old male, admitted to the internal medicine department due to Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis treated with ceftriaxone, who developed erythema covered with small ste

Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis: Clinical Features, Differential Diagnosis, and Management.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare, acute, severe cutaneous adverse reaction mainly attributed to drugs, although other triggers, including infections, vaccinations, ingestion of various substances, and spider bites, have also been described. AGEP is characterized by the development of edema and erythema followed by the eruption of multiple punctate, non-follicular, sterile pustules and subsequent desquamation. AGEP typically has a rapid onset and prompt resolution within a few weeks. The differential diagnoses for AGEP are broad and include infectious, inflammatory, a

Cutaneous candidiasis mimicking acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis: A case report.

Disseminated cutaneous candidiasis is a rare manifestation of candidiasis that arises most commonly from Candida albicans. It is described as a widespread erythematous papulopustular skin infection that typically affects premature newborns or immunocompromised patients. While candidal infections usually respond well to antifungal therapy, the clinical presentation of disseminated cutaneous candidiasis can often mimic a variety of other dermatologic conditions, that can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment. We present a 67-year-old comorbid male patient with widespread erythema and superfici
