Pediatric Genital Endemic Kaposi Sarcoma with Partial Response to Adapalene.

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8)-associated vascular neoplasm that most commonly affects immunocompromised individuals. Endemic KS occurs in sub-Saharan Africa but rarely involves the anogenital region in pediatric patients. We report a case of a 12-year-old immunocompetent Ghanaian girl presenting with rapidly progressive nodular and fungating masses involving the trunk and external genitalia. Initial biopsies were reported as squamous papilloma; subsequent histopathologic evaluation with immunohistochemistry confirmed nodular-type KS. The patient demonstrated aggressive d

New developments in acne treatment: role of combination adapalene-benzoylperoxide.

The fixed-dose combination adapalene 0.1%/benzoylperoxide 2.5% (A/BPO) was introduced as an acne vulgaris therapeutic in 2007. It combines anti-inflammatory, keratolytic, comedolytic, and antibacterial properties. Thus, it addresses several pathophysiological factors involved in the pathophysiology of acne. This review highlights the rationale for the use of this fixed-dose combination product, its therapeutic efficacy including effects on adherence and quality of life, its use for different forms of acne, and the side-effect profile. In summary, the fixed-dose combination of A/BPO gel can be

Electrostatically optimized adapalene-loaded emulsion for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Adapalene (AD) is an FDA-approved drug that shows good therapeutic efficacy for the treatment of acne vulgaris. However, due to its negative charge, AD cannot efficiently penetrate across the also negatively-charged skin membrane. This study is the first to assess the treatment of acne vulgaris using electrostatically optimized AD emulsions prepared using anionic AD with methoxy polyethylene glycol-b-poly(ε-caprolactone) (MC) as an anionic emulsifier coupled with a newly synthesized MC with different contents of an amine pendant-group (MC-[NH2]x) as a cationic emulsifier. The AD emulsion prepa

Study of the usefulness of moisturizers on adherence of acne patients treated with adapalene.

The efficacy of adapalene for acne treatment has been established. However, because of local adverse reactions, a fair number of patients discontinue adapalene treatment before experiencing its effects. To examine the usefulness of moisturizers concomitant with adapalene on adherence to treatment and its therapeutic effects in patients, 100 patients with mild to severe acne vulgaris were randomly assigned to one of two groups: group A, in which patients received adapalene in combination with a moisturizer (heparinoid); or group B, in which treatment consisted of adapalene alone and was convert

Multidimensional role of adapalene in regulating cell death in multiple myeloma.

AIMS: Multiple myeloma (MM) remains a challenging condition to cure, with persistent drug resistance negating the benefits of treatment advancements. The unraveling complexities in programmed cell death (PCD), inclusive of apoptosis, autophagy, and ferroptosis, have highlighted novel therapeutic avenues. Our study focuses on deciphering how adapalene (ADA), a small molecule compound, accelerates the demise of MM cells via targeting their compensatory survival mechanisms. METHODS: To assess the impact of ADA on MM, we employed flow cytometry and trypan blue exclusion assays to determine cell v

Rx -to- OTC switch increased access and lowered cost of topical adapalene.

Topical adapalene gel is an effective and well tolerated acne treatment that transitioned from prescription to over-the-counter (OTC) availability in 2016. Historically, prescription to OTC transitions have lowered costs to patients and payers and increased access to medications. This study used sales and prescriber data to assess access to topical retinoid therapies and their costs in the pre- and post- Rx-to-OTC transition. We demonstrate that the prescription to OTC transition of adapalene gel increased access to this medication, while lowering costs to patients and payers, including Medica
