Adenomyoepithelioma of the breast (AME) is a rare tumor characterized by a dual proliferation of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Although typically benign, AME carries a significant risk of recurrence and, in rare cases, malignant transformation. Its rarity, variable imaging features, and histological complexity make diagnosis challenging. Because it can closely mimic invasive breast carcinoma and overlap with other myoepithelial lesions, accurate histopathological assessment is essential. Here, we present the case of a 58-year-old woman with AME diagnosed on mastectomy following an initia

BACKGROUND: Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast is a rare tumour of unpredictable clinical behaviour. Most of the tumours are benign with some giving local recurrences or distant metastases.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of late lung metastases in a woman with a history of breast adenomyoepithelioma. Partial lobectomy was performed for lung lesions and initial diagnosis was epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: Careful slide's revision of both breast and pulmonary lesions showed identical microscopic appearance with lung tumour performing more malignant features. Tumour c

BACKGROUND: Malignant adenomyoepithelioma (M-AME) is an extremely rare and morphologically diverse breast tumour, posing significant diagnostic and management challenges. We present seven cases of M-AME with different histological compositions to contribute additional data to the existing literature. Through these cases, we review and discuss potential pitfalls and classification challenges in diagnosing M-AME.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We performed a retrospective clinicopathological review of seven cases of M-AME from women aged 45-74 years (median 53 years). Each case exhibited distinct archite

We describe an unusual case of multifocal breast adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) with adenomyoepitheliomatous morphology. Most breast AdCCs are unifocal and only four cases of multifocal AdCC have been reported previously, however, to our best knowledge, multifocality in AdCC confirmed by molecular analysis has not been reported, so this report adds to the literature on this unique presentation. An 80-year-old woman presented with a left breast mass at 1 o'clock and non-mass enhancement lesion at 5 o'clock on imaging. Incisional biopsy at 1 o'clock showed AdCC based on histopathological featur

Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology was performed on a 71-year-old woman with the right breast painless tumor (12 mm in diameter). FNA smears were cellular, and two types of cells were observed as main components. One was benign ductal epithelial cells and the other was associated with larger nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and ample clear cytoplasm. However, the latter cells lacked nuclear atypia and hyperchromasia and looked benign as well. Both types of cells appeared separately as sheets but also mixed in cell clusters. The latter cells were considered myoepithelial cells and the close assoc

Currently, there is no robust evidence demonstrating a clear association between Lynch syndrome and non-malignant breast pathology such as adenomyoepithelioma. We report a case of benign breast adenomyoepithelioma, which after recurrence was associated with ductal carcinoma in-situ (DCIS) in a 41-year-old woman with Lynch syndrome, who lacked significant family history of breast or ovarian cancer. Both, the adenomyoepithelioma and DCIS were found to have nuclear loss of MSH2/MSH6 by immunohistochemistry, while germline testing confirmed MSH2 gene mutation. Concordant loss of MSH2 in both lesio

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common type of salivary gland tumor, and its common sites are parotid gland, sinus, nasal septum and cleft palate. PA is an uncommon benign type of tumor occurring in the breast, and there are few reports of cases in Asia.
CASE SUMMARY: An 84-year-old woman found a mass in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast > 1 year ago. The patient underwent a right breast lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy. The pathological diagnosis was PA in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast, and the malignant component was malignant adenomyoepit

Adenomyoepithelioma comprises a spectrum of lesions with variable morphology and clinical behavior, presenting at a wide age range. The most common presenting symptom is palpable abnormality. Mammographic abnormalities include focal asymmetries, masses and microcalcifications. Adenomyoepithelioma is a biphasic neoplasm characterized by proliferation of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Adenomyoepitheliomas can be benign, atypical and malignant (adenomyoepithelioma with carcinoma). Malignant transformation occurs in either one or both cellular components leading to the development of invasive

BACKGROUND: Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is a relatively rare type of tumor formed by the coordinated proliferation of glandular epithelial cells and myoepithelial cells. Clinically, most of them are benign, while malignant ones are extremely rare. Malignant breast adenomyoepithelioma is somewhat invasive and may recur locally or metastasize distantly through the vascular pathway. However, reports on axillary lymph node metastasis are scarce. In this case, we present an extremely rare instance of malignant breast adenomyoepithelioma with axillary lymph node metastasis. By combining previous studi

Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare benign (primarily) tumors observed in the breast and gastrointestinal tract, respectively. The coexistence of both of these rare tumors is extremely rare; therefore, the author describes the clinical presentation and pathophysiological findings of such a unique case in this study. A 56-year-old female patient with no medical history presented with a substantial right breast lump, severe nausea, and vomiting, and suffered from iron deficiency anemia. Radiological observation and a right breast excisiona

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Malignant adenomyoepithelioma (MAME) is a rare biphasic breast tumor with no standardized management guidelines. Co-occurrence with other breast malignancies is extremely rare.
CASE INTRODUCTION: We report two cases with long-term follow-up: a 59-year-old female with left invasive MAME and contralateral intermediate-grade ductal carcinoma in situ, and a 62-year-old female with bilateral MAME. Both underwent bilateral mastectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB).
CLINICAL DISCUSSION: MAME may co-occur with homologous or breast malignancies of ductal origin, s

An adenomyoepithelioma of the breast is a rare tumor characterized by biphasic proliferation of both epithelial and myoepithelial cells. This tumor is generally considered as a benign neoplasm, and there are few reports describing the imaging features of this tumor through 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET). Here, we report a case of an adenomyoepithelioma that showed strong uptake of FDG on PET similar to that observed with a malignant tumor. A 73-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a 3.5-cm, mobile, and elastic hard tumor in the upper area of the left br

INTRODUCTION: Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast is a rare benign disease in which glandular epithelial cells and myoepithelial cells proliferate to form a mass. Preoperative diagnosis is considered difficult, and diagnosis by core needle biopsy (CNB) is particularly difficult. Due to its heterogeneous features and growth patterns of the tumor cells constructing the tumor mass, this tumor, although benign in nature, is misdiagnosed as ordinary breast cancer and often treated by surgery for breast cancer. Here, a rare case of AME of the breast complicated with cysts diagnosed by preoperati

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the breast is a rare, typically triple-negative malignancy with an indolent course and a biphasic epithelial and myoepithelial histology that can be mistaken for benign or high-risk lesions on core needle biopsy. We describe a 52-year-old woman with two masses at the 4 o'clock position of the right breast, 5 cm and 7 cm from the nipple, in whom ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy of the anterior lesion yielded atypical ductal hyperplasia and stereotactic core needle biopsy of the posterior lesion yielded adenomyoepithelioma. Surgical excision of both sites re

Adenomyoepithelioma is an extremely rare primary cutaneous neoplasm. Although there is ample evidence on the existence of malignant adenomyoepithelioma in the breast, a malignant counterpart in the skin has not been documented. We report a primary cutaneous adenomyoepithelioma (pcAME) with malignant features arising from a spiradenoma in a 39-year-old female patient. The tumor was solid-cystic in appearance and entirely located in the subcutaneous tissue. Histologically, the tumor displayed foci of adenomatous changes and adenomyoepitheliomatous hyperplasia adjacent to a minute spiradenoma. Gr

Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast is a rare biphasic epithelial-myoepithelial tumor that can mimic carcinoma clinically and radiologically. A 65-year-old woman presented with a progressively enlarging painful left retroareolar lump of 2 months' duration. Examination revealed a firm 3 cm × 3 cm mass with nipple retraction and skin puckering, along with palpable ipsilateral axillary nodes. Ultrasound showed an ill-defined hypoechoic lesion involving the nipple-areolar complex (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System IV). Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a T2-intermediate lesion wit

INTRODUCTION: Breast adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is a rare tumor composed of myoepithelial cells and ductal or luminal cells. Most cases of AME are benign, but rare cases in which either or both cell types exhibited malignant features have been reported. Due to its rarity, no diagnostic criteria for malignancy have been established for AME.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 64-year-old woman presented with a mass in her right breast. Fine-needle aspiration cytology and biopsy examinations revealed lesions composed of spindle-shaped cells and round epithelial cells. AME was suspected, and partial mastectomy w
