Linkage to care for HIV-positive adolescents: a multisite study of the adolescent medicine trials units of the adolescent trials network.

PURPOSE: To understand linkage to care practices at sites providing clinical services to newly diagnosed HIV-positive adolescents. METHODS: Qualitative analysis of detailed interviews conducted with 28 personnel involved in linkage to care at 15 sites providing specialty care to HIV-positive adolescents. RESULTS: We showed that multiple models exist for linkage to care, and that both formal and informal community relationships are important for successful linkage to care. Stigma was seen as a universal issue, enhancing the importance of the balance of confidentiality and social support. Barr

Advancing palliative medicine training in adolescent and young adult care: a needs assessment study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs), defined as individuals aged 15-39 years, face unique medical, psychosocial, and existential challenges when living with life-limiting illness. Despite evidence supporting early palliative care integration, Canadian adult palliative care curricula lack formalized AYA-specific competencies. Healthcare providers consistently report insufficient preparation in this area. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional needs assessment survey was administered nationally to physicians who completed Canadian adult palliative care residency training between 201

Sexual Assault in an Adolescent Female: A Pediatric Simulation Case for Emergency Medicine Providers.

INTRODUCTION: Many emergency medicine (EM) physicians have limited training in the care of sexual assault patients. Simulation is an effective means to increase the confidence and knowledge of physicians in such high-stakes, low-frequency clinical scenarios as sexual assault. We sought to develop and implement a sexual assault simulation with a structured debriefing for EM residents and to determine its impact on resident learners' attitudes and knowledge skills in the care of patients with sexual assault. METHODS: The simulation blended psychomotor skills (e.g., collecting forensic evidence)

Refeeding hypophosphatemia in hospitalized adolescents with anorexia nervosa: a position statement of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine.

Refeeding hypophosphatemia in hospitalized adolescents with anorexia nervosa is correlated with degree of malnutrition. Therefore, when initiating nutritional rehabilitation, clinicians should have a heightened awareness of the possibility of refeeding hypophosphatemia in severely malnourished patients (<70% median body mass index).

Utilization of Antiepileptic Medicines in Swedish Children and Adolescents with Different Diagnoses.

This study aimed to investigate the utilization of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in children and adolescents with epilepsy and other diagnoses in a nationwide population between 2007 and 2014. Data on dispensed prescriptions of AEDs were collected from the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register and linked to diagnosis data from the National Patient Register covering all in- and outpatient consultations from Swedish hospitals. Children aged 0-17 years who had received at least one prescription for AEDs were selected. We calculated proportions of patients stratified by indication, sex and type of AED. A

Study of Trunk Morphological Imbalance and Rehabilitation Outcome of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis with Intelligent Medicine.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has been widely used in various medical fields to effectively assist physicians in patient treatment operations. In this paper, we design and implement a deep biblical network model-based orthotic design for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis to quickly and effectively assist physicians in designing orthotics for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. A fuzzy set is used to express the knowledge of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis orthosis design, and a fuzzy reasoning based on the confidence level is implemented. Finally, the efficiency of the design

Traditional Chinese medicine constitution and physical fitness-based strategies for adolescent myopia prevention and control.

OBJECTIVE: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution represents a relatively stable individual characteristic, whereas physical fitness reflects overall physical condition. Both factors have been associated with adolescent health and disease susceptibility. This study examined the associations among TCM constitution, physical fitness, and myopia in school-aged children to identify potential avenues for myopia prevention and control. METHODS: A total of 1207 children aged 7-14 years from a primary school in Shenzhen were included in 2025. Data from annual routine campus physical fitness

Effect of Opt-Out HIV Testing for Adolescent Patients on a Pediatric Hospital Medicine Service.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In 2023, our emergency department, serving a region with one of the highest rates of new HIV infection, implemented Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-recommended universal, opt-out HIV screening for adolescents. However, few patients admitted to the pediatric hospital medicine service (PHM) were tested. To address this gap, we aimed to expand universal, opt-out HIV testing to PHM and evaluate screening implementation. METHODS: In this pre-postintervention study, we compared HIV testing rates for patients admitted to PHM aged 13 years or older during 5 months

Behavioral medicine treatment of ruminative vomiting and associated weight loss in an adolescent with autism.

Treated persistent ruminative vomiting of a 15-year-old boy with autism using a multicomponent behavioral medicine program within a residential facility. Preceding intervention the boy had lost 15 pounds associated with high-rate ruminating. The treatment program included a combination of dietary, nutritional, and behavioral procedures that emphasized food restrictions, satiation, and setting condition manipulations. Ruminative vomiting was reduced to near-zero levels and weight gain was achieved following treatment implementation. These therapeutic gains were sustained during a maintenance pr

[The Nutrition Commission of the Austrian Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Prevention of caries].

Effective preventive programs must be instituted early in the life of a child. The pediatrician plays an important role in preventive oral health care, because most children do not visit a dentist before 3 years of age. Fluoride therapy decreases the caries vulnerability of the tooth, oral hygiene measures are important to remove bacterial plaque, and dietary modifications reduce the number of carbohydrate exposures per day. Community water fluoridation is proposed in Austrian cities, because it continues to be the most cost-effective caries prevention measure available. As long as the populat
