The journal of maternal-fetal & neonatal medicine : the official journal of the European Association of Perinatal Medicine, the Federation of Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies, the International Society of Perinatal Obstetricians2016eng
OBJECTIVE: Currently, more women are delaying childbearing until their 40s.This study compared the pregnancy and maternal features, pregnancy and foetal outcomes between multiparous and primiparous patients. We compared the same factors between assisted reproductive technology (ART) and non-ART primiparous patients because of the high proportion of ART used in the primiparous patients.
METHODS: The study retrospectively examined 1680 patients, 35 years of age and older, between March 2008 and February 2015.
RESULTS: Comparing the features of these two groups, there was an increased incidence

AIM: We sought to assess the risk of antepartum and intrapartum stillbirth subtypes among women of advanced age.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study using the Missouri maternally linked data containing births from 1978 to 1997. We examined the impact of maternal age on total, antepartum and intrapartum stillbirth across five maternal age group quintiles (20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39 and >or=40) using mothers aged 20-24 years as the referent category. By means of the Cox proportional hazards regression models we obtained adjusted hazards ratios that quantified the magnitude of associat

OBJECTIVES: To examine the effect of parity on obstetric outcome in women aged 40 years or older.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort of 16,427 singleton pregnancies delivered between 1998 and 2001 was studied. Obstetric outcomes in women aged 40 years or older versus women younger than 40 years were compared for both nulliparous and multiparous women.
RESULTS: Of the 15,727 pregnancies (95.7%) that satisfied the inclusion criteria, 606 (3.9%) were in women aged 40 years or older. Advanced age was independently associated with cesarean delivery, birth and spontaneous preterm labor before 37 week

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effectivity of the first trimester screening (FTS), age and other factors as an indication for invasive testing.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of indications for invasive procedures and their effectivity in the group of women who underwent screening in the first trimester of pregnancy in our center. Women were offered the combined screening program by ultrasound and biochemical markers. Women with risk more than 1 : 300 for chromosome 21, 18 or 13 trisomies, or those over the age of 35 as this is still and indication for invasive tests in the Czech Republic

We assessed the impact of advanced maternal age on the outcome of pregnancy by studying all 1,328 women who were primarily cared for and delivered at our institution between 14 September 1984 and 12 February 1985. Important peripartum maternal complications were no more frequent in women aged 35 years or more than in women 20 to 34 years old, although operative delivery was significantly more common. Similarly, adverse outcomes of infants were no more frequent. Perinatal mortality tended to be lower. In addition, we noted a trend for fewer infants with congenital anomalies to be born among old

Among 113 prenatal diagnoses in pregnancies at advanced maternal age (mothers older than 37 years) 7 aberrant fetal karyotypes were found (6.2%). Detailed reports of one case of trisomy 21, 18 and 13 each, as well as of XXY-, XYY- and XXX gonosomal constitution respectively are presented in the following. The frequency and severity of chromosome aberrations occurring in fetuses from elder women are discussed with respect to data from the literature. It seems that this group bears a higher risk for chromosomally abnormal offspring than has been suggested before.

Births to women of advanced maternal age have increased dramatically over the last decade in both the United States. The majority of women who deliver their first baby after age 35 are healthy and experience positive birth outcomes. According to current research, primigravidas over 35 tend to be educated consumers. Their physical and psychosocial needs differ from those of the mother in her 20s, due to advanced age and factors related to difficulty conceiving and life circumstances. This paper presents (a) an overview of the possible risks to outcomes of childbearing for women over the age of

PURPOSE: The incidence of women giving birth at advanced maternal age is increasing. Literature regarding the long-term implications of delivery at advanced maternal age is limited. This study aimed to investigate whether advanced maternal age at first delivery correlates with elevated long-term risk of endocrine morbidities.
METHODS: This retrospective population-based study included women who gave birth between 1991 and 2021. Participants were categorized by age at first delivery: < 30, 30-35, 35-40, and > 40 years. Women with pre-existing endocrine disorders before pregnancy were excluded.

OBJECTIVE: To summarize information on the maternal and perinatal outcomes among pregnant women with a maternal age greater or equal to 45 years old compared with women with a maternal age of less than 45.
METHODS: A comprehensive systematic search of online databases from January 1946 through June 2015 was completed. The maternal outcomes were: fetal loss, preterm birth, full-term birth, complications of pregnancy, the type of delivery, and periconception hemorrhage. The fetal outcomes were: intrauterine growth restriction/LGA, fetal anomalies, APGAR score, and neonatal death.
RESULTS: Twen

This narrative review aimed to summarize all adverse outcomes of pregnancy in advanced maternal age (AMA) to assess the age of the mother as a potentially crucial risk factor. AMA refers to women older than 35 years. While expectations and the role of women in society have undergone significant changes today, the biology of aging remains unchanged. Various pathologic changes occur in the human body with age, including chronic noncommunicable diseases, as well as notable changes in reproductive organs, that significantly affect fertility. Despite substantial advancements in technology and medic

BACKGROUND: Women in advanced maternal age (older than 35 years of age) are at higher risk of obstetric complications and adverse perinatal outcomes than younger women.
OBJECTIVE: To know the maternal and perinatal morbidities associated to advanced age in pregnant women.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Analytical cross-sectional study. Women with resolution of pregnancy in the medical unit were included and distributed in two groups: group 1, advanced age, ≥ 35 years, and group 2, < 35 years. Clinical data, maternal and perinatal morbidities of the newborn (NB) were collected from the medical record.

Although the influence of advanced maternal age (AMA) and delayed childbearing on adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes has been studied extensively, no universal consensus on the definition of AMA exists. This terminology currently refers to the later years of a woman's reproductive life span and generally applies to women age ≥35 years. AMA increases the risk of pregnancy complications, including ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, fetal chromosomal abnormalities, congenital anomalies, placenta previa and abruption, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and cesarean delivery. Such compl

Advanced maternal age, historically defined as ages 35 years and older, is used to describe the later years in the female reproductive life span when rates of adverse pregnancy outcomes increase. The preconception period represents an opportunity to ensure the use of safe medications and optimize care for medical comorbidities. Routine prenatal care should be augmented with counseling on fetal aneuploidy with a detailed anatomic survey. Surveillance for preterm labor and preeclampsia is recommended. Growth assessment and antepartum testing for specific women are advised, particularly those age

AIM: The trend of delayed childbearing has implications for the increasing national burden of adverse perinatal outcomes across vulnerable racial-ethnic groups. The objective of this study was to investigate age-adjusted risk for adverse maternal-fetal outcomes among Asian Americans of advanced maternal age (≥35 years).
METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study using the 1992-2018 Natality data files. We calculated the prevalence of maternal-fetal outcomes: maternal diabetes, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), C-section, small-for-gestational age (SGA), large-for-gestational age
