Aicardi syndrome was originally described as a triad of partial or complete agenesis of the corpus callosum, infantile spasms, and pathognomic chorioretinal lacunae. Of approximately 200 cases reported since it was originally described in 1965, there have been no undisputed reports of Aicardi syndrome in a 46 XY male. Thus a dominant X-linked inheritance, presumed lethal in males, has been proposed. Herein we report a 5 year-old 46 XY male with the classic clinical triad of Aicardi syndrome.

Case report of a four-year-old girl with Aicardi's syndrome diagnosed from the triad: absence of the corpus callosum, focal seizures, and chorioretinal lacunae. In addition, MR scans and orbital ultrasonography detected retrobulbar cysts behind the right microphthalmic eye not described so far. Analyzing the histological data from two previous reports, it becomes likely that the cysts have formed from abnormal migration of neuroretinal tissue through the border of the optic disc coloboma that was also present. This pathomechanism is also known in isolated colobomatous microphthalmos in which c

Aicardi's syndrome occurs in females and is associated with profound mental retardation, agenesis of the corpus callosum, chorioretinal lacunae, and infantile spasms. We report a distinctive combination of abnormalities which was observed on real-time cranial ultrasound scans of two infants with Aicardi's syndrome. These abnormalities include bilateral prominent cysts in the choroid plexus in conjunction with agenesis of the corpus callosum. Recognition of these radiologic findings may suggest the diagnosis of Aicardi's syndrome in early infancy even prior to the onset of seizures or visualiza

BACKGROUND: Aicardi syndrome (ACS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder that was classically characterized by the triad of agenesis of corpus callosum, infantile spasms, and chorioretinal lacunae. As new cases emerge and new common phenotypic features are being described in subsequent reports, new modified diagnostic criteria have been proposed that now classify the observed costovertebral abnormalities as supporting diagnostic features. To our knowledge there are no previous studies focusing and describing the scoliosis observed in children with ACS.
METHODS: We screened billing lists to id…

It is described a case of a Aicardi's syndrome: it is a question of a child observed for the first time when she was 3 months old in these was gived: alterations of the callosum corpus, and of the cerebellar vermis, ocular desed, epileptics convulsions and electroencephalographics alterations of ipsaritmic type.

A 9-week-old female infant was seen with typical clinical features of Aicardi's syndrome. At autopsy (at 21 months of age), examination of the brain disclosed polymicrogyria and agenesis of the corpus callosum. Histopathologic studies of the posterior segments showed areas of intact but attenuated and depigmented retinal pigment epithelium, and atypical colobomatous defect of both posterior segments, and ectatic scleral channels lined by a retinal pigment epithelial choriocapillarislike complex in the left eye. The pathogenesis of the ocular defects is discussed.

Three children with flexion spasms and an ophthalmologic picture characterised by choroidal lacunae are described. Aicardi's syndrome was diagnosed in two cases. A diagnosis of Aicardi's syndrome should include CT scan and/or pneumoencephalographic findings of partial or total agenesis of the corpus callosum and/or other anomalies of the interhemispheric structures. Choroidal lacunae are not entirely pathognomonic.

Four cases of Aicardi's syndrome are reported. The constant features of this syndrome are infantile spasms, chorioretinopathy, and agenesis of the corpus callosum. The chorioretinopathy appears to be a defect of the pigment epithelium and choroid without significant retinal involvement. Additional ocular features include microphthalmia, colobomas of the optic nerve and choroid, persistent pupillary membrane, and glial tissue extending from the disc. The cause of the syndrome is uncertain. It occurs only in females and is nonfamilial. A male lethal syndrome resulting from a gene on the X chromo

Features of Aicardi's syndrome include infantile spasms associated with pathognomonic chorioretinopathy, abnormalities of the corpus callosum with heterotopia of gray matter, and characteristic electroencephalographic findings. Vertebral abnormalities are also part of the syndrome, which is apparently limited to female infants. Subnormal mental development appears in all cases. It was first described in 1969 in French. Isolated cases in the literature have been associated with facial asymmetry, plagiocephaly, and the Dandy-Walker syndrome. Experience with two patients suggests that a search fo

BACKGROUND: Because of the broad clinical spectrum, heritable autoinflammatory diseases present a management and therapeutic challenge. The most common genetic interferonopathy, Aicardi Goutières Syndrome (AGS), is associated with early onset neurologic disability and systemic inflammation. The chronic inflammation of AGS is the result of dysregulation of interferon (IFN) expression by one of nine genes within converging pathways. While each AGS subtype shares common features, distinct patterns of severity and potential for systemic complications amongst the genotypes are emerging. Multilineag

Aicardi Goutières syndrome is a monogenic interferonopathy caused by abnormalities in the intracellular nucleic acid sensing machinery (TREX1, RNASEH2A, RNASEH2B, RNASEH2C, SAMHD1, ADAR1, or IFIH1). Most individuals affected by Aicardi Goutières syndrome exhibit some degree of neurologic impairment, from spastic paraparesis with relatively preserved cognition to tetraparesis and severe intellectual disability. Because of this heterogeneity, it is important to fully characterize the developmental trajectory in Aicardi Goutières syndrome. To characterize the clinical presentation in Aicardi Gout

Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome (AGS) (McKusick 225750) is an autosomal recessive disease with onset in the 1st year of life, resulting in progressive microcephaly, calcification of cerebral white matter, thalamus and basal ganglia, generalized cerebral demyelination and a chronic low-grade CSF lymphocytosis, without evidence of infection. We report the autopsy of a patient who died with this disorder at the age of 17 years. Findings were severe microencephaly, diffuse but inhomogeneous cerebral white matter loss with associated astrocytosis, calcific deposits in the white matter, thalami and basal

The Aicardi syndrome consists of infantile spasms, defects of the corpus callosum, dorsal vertebral anomalies, and chorioretinal lacunar defects. The etiology is, as yet, unknown. The most likely cause, however, is an X-linked mutational event that is lethal in males. The first case of the Aicardi syndrome known to occur in one twin is reported. The patient was female and her unaffected sibling was male. This provides strong evidence to support the theory of an X-linked mutational event as the cause of this condition. The typical chorioretinal defects, often difficult to document because these…
