Indomethacin-induced gastric ulceration involves oxidative stress, inflammation, and impairment of gastric mucosal defense. This study evaluated the gastroprotective effects of ethanolic leaf extracts of Matricaria chamomilla L. (MC) and Albizia lebbeck L. (AL), individually and in combination, in an indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer model in Wistar rats. Animals were randomly divided into 11 experimental groups (n = 6 per group) and treated orally for 10 days with MC or AL (250 or 500 mg/kg), their combinations (total doses of 250 or 500 mg/kg), or ranitidine (50 mg/kg). Gastric injury was a

This study employed an affinity chromatography approach to investigate the potential molecular mechanism of the Albiziae Cortex and Polygoni Multiflori Caulis herbal pair, which is commonly used for treating insomnia. Briefly, the haloalkane dehalogenase and its substrate were fused separately onto the serotonin 1A receptor and amino microspheres. Receptors were bound onto chromatographic stationary phases specifically through biological orthogonal interactions. Subsequently, catechin, methyl-O-digalloyl-hexose, 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside (THSG), and julibroside J35 were i

Cerebral ischemia, a major cause of death and disability worldwide, results from restricted cerebral blood flow leading to neuronal damage. Despite the availability of thrombolytic and mechanical interventions, their limited therapeutic window and high cost necessitate exploration of affordable, multi-target neuroprotective strategies. Albizia procera (Roxb.) Benth., a medicinal plant rich in flavonoids and saponins, has been traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The present study evaluated the neuroprotective potential of the ethanolic extract of Albizia pro

Albiziae Cortex (AC) is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine with sedative-hypnotic effects and neuroprotective ability. However, the bioactive components of AC responsible for the neuro-protective actitivity remain unknown. Here, we investigated the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of (-)-syringaresinol (SYR) extracted from AC in microglia cells and wild-type mice. As a result, (-)-SYR significantly reduced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of interleukin - 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin -1 beta (IL-1β), cycloxygenase-2 (COX-2), and nitric oxide (NO) in BV

Histamine plays major roles in allergic diseases and its action is mediated mainly by histamine H(1) receptor (H1R). We have demonstrated that histamine signaling-related H1R and histidine decarboxylase (HDC) genes are allergic diseases sensitive genes and their expression level affects severity of the allergic symptoms. Therefore, compounds that suppress histamine signaling should be promising candidates as anti-allergic drugs. Here, we investigated the effect of the extract from the bark of Albizia lebbeck (AL), one of the ingredients of Ayruvedic medicines, on H1R and HDC gene expression us
