In 2008, 30 active substances from plant protection products were banned from marketing in France. Nevertheless, the French Poison Control Centers continue to see cases of poisoning caused by these active substances that are no longer approved. Data on 10-y of chemical toxicological analyses carried out in a veterinary laboratory in Barcelona, Spain for suspected wild and domestic animal poisonings are summarized. Data of toxicological analyses carried out over a 10-y period for suspected cases of wild and domestic animal poisonings are summarized. Of the 123 cases suspected as deliberate, 102 were be analyzed and 50 of them were positive to intentional poisoning, a total of 107 dead animals. Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase by either organophosphates or carbamates causes anti-cholinesterase poisoning. This arises through a wide range of neurotoxic effects triggered by the overstimulation of the cholinergic receptors at synapses and neuromuscular junctions. The acute polymyopathy in a seven-year-old German shepherd dog was attributed to the muscular hypertonia, tremors and seizures which developed during the acute phase of carbamate poisoning. After two days of generalised muscular rigidity, the dog adopted a characteristic fetal position which could be explained by the imbalance between the injuries to the extensor and flexor muscles. The polymyopathy resolved gradually over the course of a week.

Deliberate poisoning of domestic animals and wildlife with commercial formulations of pesticides has been documented worldwide.
