This study explores the issue of violence experienced by staff in the learning disability service of an NHS Trust. Based on the literature review a questionnaire survey was sent to all staff employed in the Trust's learning disability service (n = 295). The questionnaire sought: background details of respondents; numerical incidences and types of violence experienced over the previous 12 months; reporting mechanisms; reactions to and impact of violence on individuals and their work; support received. Contact urticaria has been recognized since the 19th century, but rubber contact urticaria was not described until 1979. PURPOSE: To record the use and perceived benefits of mainstream allied health services, complementary therapies, nutritional supplements and structured physical activity in a paediatric population of males with Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophy.

A survey on AIDS was administered within a large, southern California jurisdiction to law enforcement officers and first responders (paramedics, firefighters). Respondents had accurate knowledge about AIDS but several incorrect perceptions about HIV transmission; a substantial proportion believed that HIV could be contracted from casual contact. During the last decade natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy has been acknowledged as a major problem among rubber glove-wearing medical personnel. Epidemiological studies carried out in the European Union member states as well as in the United States reveal that 2% to 15% of health care workers are allergic to latex. We describe a 58-year-old physician who developed Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) 30 years after formal training in pathology. To the best of our knowledge, he is the sixth physician and the 24th health care worker reported with CJD. We summarize the available data on these health care workers.
