Many aquatic snails act as intermediate hosts for the larvae of trematodes, Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica, which cause the diseases fascioliasis and schistosomiasis. The WHO has tested several thousands of synthetic compounds for the control of the snail host. Although effective, these molluscicides have so far not proved themselves to be entirely satisfactory. With a growing awareness of environmental pollution, efforts are being made to discover molluscicidal products of plant origin. Being products of biosynthesis, these are potentially biodegradable in nature. Several groups of

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a leading cause of liver disease globally, with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) representing a significant contributor due to its widespread use and limited regulation. CAM encompasses diverse practices and products, with regional and ethnic diversity, many of which are used to treat liver disease. Even though a few natural remedies have been utilized for centuries, most lack scientific evidence for their safety and efficacy. This report describes a 42-year-old male who self-treated his fatty liver with CAM, culminating in severe concomitant hep

Urban forests play a vital role in sustainable cities by providing ecological, social, and climatic benefits. However, tree selection often emphasizes aesthetics and pollution control, overlooking resilience to extreme weather, particularly cyclones in coastal regions. This study proposes a climate-resilient tree selection framework that integrates ecological function and mechanical stability. Thirty-four commonly planted species in Bhubaneswar, a cyclone-prone city in Odisha, India, were evaluated using four indices: Air Pollution Tolerance Index (APTI), Cyclone Tolerance Index (CTI), Use Val

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, increasing in prevalence worldwide. Reduced T cell apoptosis may interfere with the down-regulation of an immune response resulting in T cell accumulation contributing to the chronic inflammation of asthma. Most studies focused so far on apoptosis of eosinophils but the detailed role of T lymphocytes apoptosis in allergic diseases is unclear yet. The present experimental study was designed to discern the modulation of various apoptotic proteins of splenic T lymphocytes in a previously established rat model of Alstonia scholaris pollen i
