This article reviews the validity of models based on (a) aptitude-achievement discrepancies, (b) low achievement, (c) intraindividual differences, and (d) response to instruction for the classification and identification of learning disabilities (LD). Models based on aptitude-achievement discrepancies and intraindividual differences showed little evidence of discriminant validity. Despite widespread use of the Mullen Scales of Early Learning (MSEL; E. M. Mullen, 1995 ) as a cognitive test for children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities, the instrument has not been independently validated for use in these populations. As the demand for qualified radiographers grows and the number of applicants to schools far exceeds the available capacity, program directors across the country face increasing difficulty in screening candidates for admission. This study sought to determine if there was a significant correlation between high school class rank, Scholastic Aptitude Test scores and the successful completion of a radiography curriculum as measured by a passing score on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination.

In recent years, evidence has been provided that individuals with dyslexia show alterations in the anatomy and function of the auditory cortex. Parental divorce can be conceptualized as a stressful event for all children, but one must recognize that reactions to divorce can vary widely among children. BACKGROUND: The Personal Qualities Assessment (PQA), developed by the University of Newcastle, Australia to assess the aptitude of future medical professionals, has been used in Western countries.
PURPOSES: The objective was to investigate whether the PQA is appropriate for Japanese medical school applicants.
METHODS: Two of the PQA tests, Libertarian-Dual-Communitarian moral orientations (Mojac) and Narcissism, Aloofness, Confidence, and Empathy (NACE), were translated into Japanese, and administered at the Tokyo Women's Medical University entrance examinations from 2007 to 2009.

Group and individual ability profiles of 89 English 4-year-olds on the McCarthy scales of children's abilities (MSCA) are presented. The results suggest that at this age, there is a high expectation of obtaining at least one significant difference between a child's mean ability score and the individual ability of index scores. In this study haloperidol appeared to affect the performance on a selected category of cognitive tasks considered to represent shifting aptitude. A pretest--post-test design was used with two groups of subjects: 17 patients suffering from idiopathic spasmodic torticollis, and 17 controls who were matched for age and intelligence. The results are discussed in relation to previous findings on haloperidol and cognition, shifting disorder in Parkinson's disease and changes in behavioural organization found in animals with an experimentally induced dopaminergic hypoactivity.

Tests against types and anti-types as performed in Victor's Configural Frequency Analysis (CFA) have shown to be non-conservative. The conservative test by Kieser is introduced. It is applied to data describing a sample that performs below average in language tests. For data including small expected cell frequencies the Harms-Ihm adjustment is recommended. It leads to valid chi-squared testing even if expectancies are small. The problem of identifying more than two types or syndromes in exploratory CFA is discussed.

The authors present the preliminary results of a range of their aero-space medicine studies, carried out in hypobaric chamber, in simulated flight and at different atmospheric pressures, to asses the tubal function in normal hearing people. The tympanometric determination through a Z072 Madsen inpendenzometer in static and dynamic conditions of barometric depression gave a clear and exact indications about the impedence variation capacity of the middle ear in similated flight, giving homogenous data which allow the use of this method in flying recruitment aptitude test routine.

Revised selection mechanisms to medicine now include an adjunct admission test known as the HPAT. Stakeholder acceptability is a key issue. General Practitioners (GPs) represent an important stakeholder group. Traditionally, students with learning disabilities (LD) have been identified using an aptitude-achievement discrepancy or response to intervention approach. As profiles of the cognitive deficits of discrepancy-defined students with LD have already been developed using these approaches, these deficits can in turn be used to identify LD using the discrepancy approach as a benchmark for convergent validity. The paper presents a method of measuring the vocal penetrating capacity under conditions of masking voice. The noise consists of a frequency mixture of vowels in combination with voiced and unvoiced consonants. The comprehensibility of the test matrix is measured with respect to the capacity of the voice to penetrate background noise.
