Arnica montana L. (Arnica) has a long history of use in treating inflammation and soft tissue injury, yet its immunomodulatory mechanisms remain largely unexplored. In this study, we investigated the effects of distinct Arnica extracts - derived from different plant parts (root or whole plant) and manufacturing processes - on primary human T cells. OBJECTIVES: Multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukemia are severe forms of blood cancer, which lack effective therapies for treatment. In our search for new chemical lead structures from nature, we were investigating the Brazilian medicinal plant arnica-do-cerrado (Lychnophora ericoides).

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated Arnica Montana 's effect on postoperative edema, pain, and trismus after impacted third molar extraction.
STUDY DESIGN: In a double-blind clinical trial, 10 patients scheduled for the extraction of symmetrically impacted maxillary or mandibular third molars were recruited. Patients received either Arnica Montana 12 CH or a placebo, starting 1 day before surgery and continuing for 7 days postoperatively. The alternate treatment was given during a second surgery after at least two weeks. Pain scores, maximum mouth opening, and facial measurements were recorded.

INTRODUCTION: This case study on Arnica montana applies the newly developed Pragmatic Historical Assessment (PHA) tool to systematically collate and evaluate nearly 400 years of pharmacological and pharmaceutical evidence. Analysis of positive patch testing during the last years revealed increased occurrence of contact allergy against arnica. Our investigations were done at the Department of Dermatology of the General Hospital, Linz. We take the view that the frequency of this contact allergy represents the consequence of using household remedies containing arnica.
