Long-term effects of beraprost sodium on arteriosclerosis obliterans: a single-center retrospective study of Japanese patients.

INTRODUCTION: Arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) causes ischemic symptoms of the lower limbs, reducing quality of life (QOL), and has a poor prognosis. Early diagnosis and treatment are necessary. In this study, the effects of long-term administration of beraprost sodium (beraprost) to treat ASO were investigated. METHODS: One hundred and eighty eight patients treated with beraprost for ≥1 year were retrospectively identified. Outcomes were lower limb ischemic symptoms, carotid intima/media thickness (IMT), and cardiovascular events. Patients reported visual analog scale scores for major sympt

Clinical efficacy of Danggui Sini Decoction for treatment of lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Endovascular revascularization for lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) is often limited by long-term restenosis. This study evaluated whether the traditional Chinese medicine formula Danggui Sini Decoction (DGSD) could improve mid-term outcomes when combined with the standard procedure. AIM: To investigate the clinical efficacy of DGSD combined with endovascular revascularization in the treatment of ASO and its impact on patients' quality of life. METHODS: A total of 38 ASO patients treated at Zhangjiajie People's Hospital from January 2023 to January 2025 were selected

The analgesic effect of racemic ketamine in patients with chronic ischemic pain due to lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans.

BACKGROUND: Ketamine in sub-dissociative doses has been shown to have analgesic effects in various pain conditions, including neuropathic and phantom-limb pain, where conventional treatment has often failed. Chronic ischemic pain due to lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans often responds poorly to analgesics, and the pain-generating mechanisms are not well understood. METHODS: Eight patients with rest pain in the lower extremity due to arteriosclerosis obliterans were given sub-dissociative doses of 0.15, 0.30, or 0.45 mg/kg racemic ketamine and morphine 10 mg as a 5-min infusion on fo

Intractable wounds caused by arteriosclerosis obliterans with end-stage renal disease treated by aggressive debridement and epidermal grafting.

BACKGROUND: Patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) need to avoid skin laceration; amputation is common because of intractability of wounds and complications with other diseases, including diabetes mellitus. We have reported the usefulness of aggressive debridement deep enough to expose bone marrow cells, occlusive dressing, and epidermal grafting for diabetic foot ulcers and wounds from rheumatic diseases. OBJECTIVE: To test whether this experimental protocol is effective to treat intractable wounds in a patient receiving HD accompanied with arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO). METHODS AND RESUL

Tc-99m-MIBI scintigraphy in evaluating the effect of hepatocyte growth factor gene therapy for peripheral arteriosclerosis obliterans.

We report an 81-year-old man with arteriosclerosis obliterans with sharp rest pain of the left lower leg below the knee that was resistant to conventional drug therapy. Gene therapy using hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) was performed, following which the symptoms remarkably improved. Magnetic resonance (MR) angiography did not detect any development of collateral vessels following gene therapy; however, technetium-99m-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (Tc-99m)-MIBI scintigraphy revealed the development of micro-circulation in the lower leg following HGF gene therapy. This is the first report on the use

A rare case of arteriosclerosis obliterans without prominent risk factors complicated by idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. A case report.

An eighty-four-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of pain at rest in the lower extremities. On physical examination, trophic changes of the skin and petechiae in the limbs were observed. Computed tomographic scan of the abdomen showed focal renal infarctions and calcification of the descending aorta. Moreover, radionuclide imaging of the arterial system revealed complete obstructions of the two right iliac arteries and the left external iliac artery, where collateral flows were observed. Laboratory examination showed a severe thrombocytopenia caused by immunoglobulin G (IgG)-typ

Predictive Value of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in Chemical Lumbar Sympathectomy for End-Stage Arteriosclerosis Obliterans of the Lower Extremities.

INTRODUCTION: The therapeutic effect of chemical lumbar sympathectomy (CLS) on ischemic diseases of the lower limbs varies greatly among individuals. The time to peak (TTP) response in contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) can reflect the perfusion disorder of the calf skeletal muscle and the collateral circulation. In this study we evaluated the predictive value of CEUS in patients treated with CLS for end-stage atherosclerotic occlusive disease of the lower extremity (ASO-LE). METHODS: This was a prospective study that included patients with end-stage ASO-LE and moderate to severe pain who ha

Ischemic paralysis caused by internal iliac artery embolism after endovascular recanalization for lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Lower extremity paralysis is a devastating complication after endovascular therapy for lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans (LEAOD). Common mechanisms include ischemia-reperfusion injury, acute arterial embolism, and thrombosis. Paralysis caused by internal iliac artery embolism is exceptionally rare and may be overlooked when postoperative neurologic deficits are initially attributed to spinal or cerebral causes. CASE PRESENTATION: An 86-year-old man developed recurrent bilateral intermittent claudication 3 years after endovascular treatment for LEAOD, followed by right to
