A Federated Multi-Agent Communication Framework for Autonomous Cyber Defense in Edge-Cloud IoT Environments.

With increasing system complexity and attack sophistication, autonomous cyber defense has become essential in edge-cloud Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems, requiring intelligent, secure, and scalable agent communication frameworks. This paper proposes FMAD (Federated Multi-Agent Defense), a conceptual federated multi-agent framework that enables intelligent agent communication for autonomous cyber defense through collaborative sensing and federated learning, with a design emphasis on security and privacy preservation. The proposed framework defines a set of specialized intelligent agents res

The effects of antimuscarinic agents on the activity of the cardiac autonomic nervous system in children with functional overactive bladder.

BACKGROUND: Functional overactive bladder disorder is one of the most prevalent presentations of bladder and bowel dysfunction in children, and it is associated with lower overall cardiac autonomic and parasympathetic activity. Antimuscarinics are the most frequently used pharmacological agents for treatment of children with functional overactive bladder disorder; however, there is a gap in the literature in describing the effect of antimuscarinics on the autonomic profile of this population. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to assess the cardiac parasympathetic activity before and after 1

Effects of autonomic agents on the secretion of glycoproteins from the secretory cells of the major salivary glands in rats.

The characteristics of the glycoproteins contained in the secretory segments of the three major salivary glands of adult male rats and the secretion of these various glycoproteins in response to autonomic agents were examined by micro-disc electrophoresis. Characterization of the glycoproteins showed that the acinar segments from the three major salivary glands and the segments of the convoluted granular tubules from the submandibular gland each contain characteristic species of glycoproteins. The glycoproteins characteristic of the acinus of the submandibular gland were secreted into saliva i

Autonomous radiotherapy planning via agentic orchestration using a multimodal TPS-integrated compound AI platform.

Purpose. Radiation therapy (RT) treatment planning requires iterative, multi-day optimization workflows in which subjective planning strategies produce inter-planner variability in plan quality. Existing computational approaches automate isolated aspects of this workflow, yet none orchestrates an end-to-end pipeline from physician directive to deliverable plan. We developed a compound artificial intelligence (AI) platform for fully autonomous RT treatment planning that combines multi-agent large language model (LLM) orchestration with directive-conditioned three-dimensional (3D) dose predictio

Agent-based modelling of older adult needs for autonomous mobility-on-demand: a case study in Winnipeg, Canada.

UNLABELLED: Puberty can be a critical period for the long-term development of diseases, especially for stress-related disorders that depend on neuroendocrine and immune responses. Some organs like the prostate are prone to diseases that result from neuroendocrine or immune challenges, such as cancer. AIM: In the present study, we assessed the long-term effects of an acute pubertal stressor (immune-challenge) on the development of precancerous lesions in adult rats, and compared them with testosterone-induced prostatic lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pubertal male rats received a single injec

Tissue-autonomous pharmacological direction: how target expression landscapes convert balanced compounds into tissue-selective agents.

Multi-target drugs frequently exhibit tissue-dependent pharmacological directions: the same compound may promote a biological process in one organ while driving its functional opposite in another. Tamoxifen antagonizes estrogen receptors in breast tissue yet activates them in the endometrium; non-selective NSAIDs reduce inflammation at injury sites while damaging the gastric mucosa. Each phenomenon has been explained by drug-specific mechanisms, but no unifying principle predicts when or why such direction reversal occurs. Here we propose tissue-autonomous pharmacological direction (TAPD): whe

Impact on Anesthetic Agent Consumption After Autonomic Neural Blockade as Part of a Combined Anesthesia Protocol: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: The intraoperative autonomic neural blockade (ANB) was found safe and effective in controlling pain and associated symptoms and reducing analgesic consumption after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). This study evaluated whether ANB performed at the outset of LSG reduces anesthetic consumption and promotes hemodynamic stability. METHODS: This prospective, double-blinded, randomized trial involved patients undergoing LSG in 2 high-volume institutions. Patients were randomized to receive ANB either at the onset or the end of the procedure. The primary outcome measure was the con

Comparative Evaluation of a New Autonomous AI Agent Versus Frontier LLMs for AI-Generated Patient Information Sheets on Pediatric Pathologies.

BACKGROUND: At present, there are very limited studies evaluating autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agents in oral oncology or healthcare education, and no studies have directly compared traditional frontier large language models (LLMs) with autonomous AI agents in the field of pediatric oral oncologic pathology. This study evaluated the performance of AI LLMs and an autonomous AI scientific agent in generating engaging and accessible patient information sheets for common pediatric oral pathologic conditions and rare head and neck tumors. The development of high-quality patient education

Neuromuscular, haemodynamic, and autonomic effects of a fast-onset, long-acting, nondepolarising, carborane neuromuscular blocking agent compared to rocuronium in rats.

BACKGROUND: We have previously introduced a long-acting, nondepolarising, neuromuscular blocking agent, p NMB ( para -neuromuscular blocker). However, its neuromuscular, haemodynamic and autonomic effects as well as reversibility were not fully characterized. OBJECTIVE: We compared p NMB to rocuronium and tested the hypotheses that p NMB has a fast-onset, is long-acting, and its effects are reversed by sugammadex. DESIGN: Animal study. SETTING: Laboratory from January 2021 to February 2025. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-three adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. INTERVENTIONS: Rats were anesthetised an

Governance-aware autonomous retail coordination in artificial intelligence cities using multi-agent reinforcement learning, blockchain accountability, and federated learning.

When autonomous systems take operational authority over urban commerce, accountability and human oversight matter as much as efficiency. We present AAIRM, a governance-aware autonomous retail coordination framework addressing three requirements for trustworthy procurement: tamper-evident decision provenance, data sovereignty, and adaptive demand coordination. AAIRM couples a Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) ordering policy, a permissioned Blockchain Trust Ledger (BTL) for multi-party audit trails, and a Federated Demand Learning (FDL) layer. Evaluation is simulation-based, using a multi-cate

Autonomous conversational agents for loneliness, social isolation, depression, and anxiety in older people without cognitive impairment: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Loneliness is a major psychological challenge in older adulthood, contributing to increased risks of depression, anxiety, and mortality. Conversational agents - technologies that interact with users via natural language - have emerged as potential tools to support psychological well-being in later life. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effects of autonomous conversational agents, including robotic and nonrobotic systems, on loneliness, as well as social isolation, depression, and anxiety in older people without cognitive impairment. Seventeen studies with pre-post interve

Empowering AI data scientists using a multi-agent LLM framework with self-evolving capabilities for autonomous, tool-aware biomedical data analyses.

Artificial intelligence agents are emerging as powerful applications of large language models (LLMs), automating complex tasks and enabling scientific data exploration. However, their use in biomedical data analysis remains limited by the difficulty of handling specialized tools and multistep reasoning. Here we introduce BioMedAgent, a self-evolving LLM multi-agent framework, which learns to use diverse bioinformatics tools and chain them into executable workflows through interactive exploration and memory retrieval algorithms. It allows biomedical users to initiate tasks using natural languag

Pharmacological properties of 2-(2-chloro-p-toluidino)-2-imidazoline-nitrate (tolonidine), a new antihypertensive agent. II. Action on cardiac contraction, circulatory parameters, autonomic receptors and diuresis.

Tolonidine, 2(2-chloro-p-toluidino)-2-imidazoline-nitrate, is a substance chemically related to clonidine. In the anesthetized dog, tolonidine administered i.v. decreased the amplitude of ventricular contractions, reduced aortic blood flow and increased peripheral vascular resistances. In the bivagotomized pithed rat, tolonidine induced a long-lasting increase in blood pressure with no secondary hypotension, thus suggesting peripheral sympathomimetic properties, however, contractions of seminal vesicles in vitro were not obtained. The product proved to have no peripheral sympatholytic or paras

Effect of anaesthetic and choice of neuromuscular blocker on vagal control of heart rate under laboratory animal experimental conditions.

Neuromuscular-blocking agents are commonly used in laboratory animal research settings. Due to actions of cholinergic receptors at locations other than the motor end-plate, these agents have a strong propensity to modulate autonomic outflow and may therefore not be desirable in studies examining autonomic function. This study aimed to compare the effect of two non-depolarizing neuromuscular-blocking agents, pancuronium and cisatracurium, on blood pressure, heart rate and non-invasive indices of autonomic function (heart rate variability, systolic blood pressure variability and baroreflex sensi

Pathology of emesis: its autonomic basis.

Vagal and non-vagal pathways as well as several brainstem nuclei participate in vomiting in response to different emetic stimuli. Autonomic pathways involved in nausea are less well understood. Numerous gastrointestinal disorders with prominent nausea and vomiting including gastroparesis, cyclic vomiting syndrome, and motion sickness have associated autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Autonomic disturbances are also seen with non-gastrointestinal diseases with gut manifestations such as migraine headaches, orthostatic intolerance, and familial dysautonomia. Stimulation of emetic pathways inv
