Synergistic Enhancement of Capacitive Performance in Porous Carbon by Phenolic Resin and Boric Acid.

The study of pore structure regulation methods has always been a central focus in enhancing the capacitance performance of porous carbon electrodes in lithium-ion capacitors (LICs). This study proposes a novel approach for the synergistic regulation of the pore structure in porous carbon using phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin and boric acid (BA). PF and BA are initially dissolved and adsorbed onto porous carbon, followed by hydrothermal treatment and subsequent heat treatment in a N2 atmosphere to obtain the porous carbon materials. The results reveal that adding BA alone has almost no influence

Simultaneous Quantitation of Boric Acid and Calcium Fructoborate in Dietary Supplements by HPTLC-Densitometry.

The paper describes a new, simple, selective and precise high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method for the simultaneous identification and quantitative determination of boric acid (BA) and calcium fructoborate (CFB) in bulk and tablet/capsule dosage forms of dietary supplements. HPTLC silica gel G 60 F254 precoated glass plates were used as the stationary phase. The mobile phase consisted of 2-propanol-water 8:2 (v/v). The two boron-based compounds were adequately separated with the Rf values of 0.83 ± 0.01 (BA) and 0.59 ± 0.01 (CFB).

Protective effect of boric acid on lead- and cadmium-induced genotoxicity in V79 cells.

The toxic heavy metals cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) are important environmental pollutants which can cause serious damage to human health. As the metal ions (Cd(2+) and Pb(2+)) accumulate in the organism, there is special concern regarding chronic toxicity and damage to the genetic material. Metal-induced genotoxicity has been attributed to indirect mechanisms, such as induction of oxidative stress and interference with DNA repair. Boron is a naturally occurring element and considered to be an essential micronutrient, although the cellular activities of boron compounds remain largely unexplored.

Protective effect of boric acid against carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in mice.

The protective effect of boric acid against liver damage was evaluated by its attenuation of carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced hepatotoxicity in mice. Male albino mice were treated intraperitoneally (i.p.) with boric acid (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) or silymarin daily for 7 days and received 0.2% CCl(4) in olive oil (10 mL/kg, i.p.) on day 7. Results showed that administration of boric acid significantly reduced the elevation in serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase, and the level of malondialdehyde in the liver that were induced by CCl(4)

Nanoinhibitory Impacts of Salicylic Acid, Glycyrrhizic Acid Ammonium Salt, and Boric Acid Nanoparticles against Phytoplasma Associated with Faba Bean.

Phytoplasmas are economically important plant pathogenic bacterial diseases, causing severe yield losses worldwide. In this study, we tested nanoformulations such as glycyrrhizic acid ammonium salt (GAS), salicylic acid (SA), and boric acid (BA) as novel antimicrobial agents inducing the resistance against the phytoplasma disease in faba bean. The nanoparticles (NP) were foliar-applied to naturally phytoplasma-infected faba bean with three concentrations from each of SA, GAS, and BA, under field conditions. Nested PCR (using universal primer pairs P1/P7 and R16F2n/R16R2) were reacted positivel

Ascorbic acid as a matrix modifier for determination of tin in concentrated boric acid solutions by electrothermal atomic-absorption spectrometry.

It has been found that the atomic-absorption signal for tin is reduced in the presence of 5 micro1 of 0.05-0.30M boric acid at STPF-conditions. It has been proposed that the reason for the boron interferences is the formation of SnB(g) at the atomization stage. In the presence of palladium chloride the interferences from 0.2M boric acid are reduced by a factor of 1.3. The interferences are reduced most effectively when the sample is atomized from a polycrystalline graphite platform or in the presence of ascorbic acid. The interference of up to 0.2M boric acid can be suppressed and the area of

Boric acid attenuates sepsis-induced cardiac injury through TLR4/mTOR modulation.

Boric acid (BA) has been reported to exert antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in various experimental settings; however, its role in sepsis-associated myocardial injury and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Polymicrobial infections cause severe organ damage and are associated with increased mortality in both neonatal and adult patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the cardioprotective effects of BA and to explore its potential molecular mechanisms against myocardial injury in a cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced sepsis model.Sprague-Da

Efficient Generation of Specific Counting Polynomials and their Subsequent Indices of Complex Boric Acid Structure.

BACKGROUND: Boric acid, a weak monobasic Lewis acid of boron, exists as a white solid that crystallizes from aqueous solutions in triclinic waxy plates. The major role of boric acid in the treatment of Candida vaginitis is through its antifungal properties, which help inhibit the growth of the Candida yeast responsible for the infection. OBJECTIVE: Treatment for Candida vaginitis involves antifungal medications, which are commonly administered orally or topically to eliminate the Candida yeast causing the infection. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this study, we employed the Djokovic-Winkler relatio

Boric acid-functionalized bentonite nanostructures attenuated paraquat-induced pulmonary injuries in rats.

This study evaluated the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic effects of boric acid-functionalized bentonite nanostructures (BABTs) in a rat model of paraquat (PQ)-induced pulmonary toxicity, a well-established model for herbicide-related lung fibrosis. BABTs (20-60 nm) were synthesized via a microwave-assisted technique, characterized by dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, confirming PQ-BABT complex formation. Forty-eight male Wistar rats were randomized into eight groups (n = 6/group): negative

The Possible Protective Effect of Boric Acid in an Alkaline-Induced Corneal Neovascularization Rat Model.

It is known that boric acid (BA) exerts it antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects by activating the activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) and nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway. This pathway has been reported to control antioxidant status in the eye. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible preventive effects of boric acid administration on oxidative damage and corneal neovascularization (CNV). Sixteen adult female Wistar albino rats were divided into two groups: (I) control (n = 8); the CNV model was applied to the right eye of the rats, and the left

Efficacy of Boric Acid as a Treatment of Choice for Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media and Its Ototoxicity.

Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is one of the most common chronic infectious diseases worldwide, especially affecting children. The patients or the parents of the affected children are often worried about the cost of medical visits, prescription medicines, or inconsistently effective medication. The complications of CSOM have been greatly reduced because of the development of antibiotics; however, the irrational use of antibiotics has led to the emergence of organisms resistant to the commonly used drugs. Owing to the increase in antibiotic resistance, the development of new treatments
