In vivo biodistribution and synergistic toxicity of silica nanoparticles and cadmium chloride in mice.

Silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) are now in daily use due to their low intrinsic toxicity. Cadmium is a ubiquitous environmental pollutant. In spite of real risk of humans' co-exposure to SiNPs and cadmium, their synergistic toxicity is still unclear. Here, we report the synergistic effects of SiNPs and CdCl₂ on their biodistribution and subacute toxicity in mice. The biodistributions, histopathological changes, serum biochemical parameters and oxidative stress responses were determined after intraperitoneal injection of SiNPs and/or CdCl₂ to mice. SiNPs and CdCl₂ have a positive synergistic toxic

[Effects of cadmium chloride on the malignant transformation of human embryo lung fibroblasts].

The malignant transformation of human embryo lung fibroblast (HELF) induced by CdCl2 was tested by 3H-TdR incorporation, chromosome analysis and flow cytometry. Chromosome aberration, the ratio of cells in different cell cycle phases and the quantities of DNA synthesis of different groups were determined. The results showed that the morphology of HELF changed in three levels of cadmium chloride (I 0.004 mumol/L, II 0.02 mumol/L and III 0.04 mumol/L) treated for three times. The cell growth was disordered and overlapping without density regulating effect and the transforming foci were formed. T

Resistance to benzalkonium chloride and cadmium chloride in Listeria monocytogenes isolates from food and food-processing environments in southern Brazil.

Resistance to quaternary ammonium compounds such as benzalkonium chloride (BC) has been observed in many Listeria monocytogenes strains worldwide and is associated with cadmium chloride (CC) resistance. Therefore, the aims of this study were to evaluate the susceptibility to BC and CC, detect the presence of resistance genes, and investigate the possible role of efflux pumps in BC and CC resistance in L. monocytogenes isolates from food and food-processing environments in southern Brazil. All 50 L. monocytogenes isolates (100%) were resistant to BC, and 29 isolates (58%) were resistant to CC.

Tetrabromobisphenol A and Cadmium Chloride Induced Hepatic Oxidative Stress and Autophagy Inhibition in Rats.

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) and Cadmium (Cd) are environmentally ubiquitous and coexisting contaminants, yet the consequences of joint exposure remain to be further clarified. This study employed rats to elucidate effects on oxidative stress and autophagy in the liver exposed to these compounds at environment-relevant doses. Results showed that TBBPA or/and CdCl2 altered hepatic injury biomarkers, along with obvious histopathological alterations. Besides, oxidative stress indicators were elevated, whereas mRNA expressions and activities of antioxidant enzymes were decreased, and Nrf2 signali

Homochiral Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Cadmium Chlorides Directed by Enantiopure Amino Acids.

Homochiral cadmium chlorides were prepared under mild conditions using enantiopure amino acids as structure-directing agents. They feature a lacunary hexagonal CdCl2 lattice as well as a one-dimensional perovskite structure. The coexistence of protonated and zwitterionic amino acids between cadmium chloride chains is quite rare. These compounds are nonlinear optically active solids showing a moderate second-harmonic-generation response. Theoretical calculations were performed to reveal the origin of their nonlinear-optical properties.

Embryotoxicity and in vivo cytogenetic changes following maternal exposure to cadmium chloride in mice.

Cadmium is a well-known teratogen in laboratory animals and a widespread environmental pollutant. The frequencies of sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs), nucleolar organizing regions (NORs) and chromosomal aberrations were analysed in maternal bone marrow and fetal liver and/or lung cells of mice, following maternal treatment with cadmium chloride, on gestational days 8 through 10. The embryotoxic effects and morphological changes on day 18 fetuses were also studied. Cadmium chloride is readily transferred across the placenta and significant levels were detected in both the placenta and fetus. N

Effect of Manganese Chloride and of Cotreatment with Cadmium Chloride on the In Vitro Proliferative, Motile and Invasive Behavior of MDA-MB231 Breast Cancer Cells.

We examined the dose⁻response effect of MnCl₂ on the proliferative behavior of triple-negative breast cancer MDA-M231 cells vs. immortalized HB2 cells from breast epithelium taken as nontumoral counterparts. We also tested the effect of MnCl₂ on tumor cell invasiveness in vitro by evaluating the relative invasion indexes through Boyden chamber assays. Moreover, we checked whether cotreatment with both MnCl₂ and CdCl₂ could modify the observed biological response by MDA-MB231 cells. Our results show a promotional impact of MnCl₂ on cell proliferation, with 5 µM concentration inducing the more p

Molecular mechanisms linking cadmium chloride exposure to ankylosing spondylitis: an integrative network-based study.

Chronic cadmium chloride (CC) exposure is associated with diverse toxicological outcomes, yet its potential role in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) remains unclear. This study employed a network toxicology framework to computationally elucidate the potential molecular mechanisms linking CC exposure to AS. AS-associated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified from the GSE73754 dataset. Potential CC toxicity targets were retrieved from the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD). Overlapping genes were subjected to functional enrichment analysis, protein-protein i

Dataset of chicken-embryo blood cells exposed to quercetin, methyl methanesulfonate, or cadmium chloride.

Toxicological analysis of the effects of natural compounds is frequently mandated to assess their safety. In addition to more simple in vitro cellular systems, more complex biological systems can be used to evaluate toxicity. This dataset is comprised of bright-field microscopy images of chicken-embryo blood cells, a complex biological model that recapitulates several features found in human organisms, including circulation in blood stream and biodistribution to different organs. In the presented collection of blood smear images, cells were exposed to the flavonoid quercetin, and the two mutag

Diallyl disulfide attenuation effect on transcriptome in rat liver cells against cadmium chloride toxicity.

In this report, liver cells were treated with cadmium chloride (CdCl2 ) and diallyl disulfide (DADS), a major compound from garlic to attenuate the toxic effect of Cd on transcriptome. The viability of Cd treated cells was reduced to 19.9% ± 2.4% in comparison to the untreated cells, whereas the viability of DADS pretreated cells was increased to 48.6% ± 2%. The attenuation effect of DADS was studied at shorter period (6 hours). Transcriptome analysis of CdCl2 alone treated cells resulted in 2119 and 982 (up and down) regulated genes (≥ 2 or ≤ 2-fold), whereas pretreated cells with DADS result

Protective effects of cadmium chloride against UVB injury in mouse skin and in cultured human cells: a possible role of cadmium-induced metallothionein.

Metallothionein (MT) is a cysteine-rich protein with antioxidant and metal-chelating activities that is readily inducible by exposure to a variety of stimuli including heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd2+). We have investigated the protective effects of Cd2+ treatment on sunburn cell (SBC) induction in mouse skin in vivo and human cell survival in vitro after UVB exposure. The number of SBC in mouse ear skin was significantly reduced in Cd(2+)-treated mice (10 mumol CdCl2/kg) with each UVB dose (25, 50 and 100 mJ/cm2) compared with controls. Delay of UVB exposure after Cd2+ administration (24 h)

Effect of Copper Sulphate and Cadmium Chloride on Non-Human Primate Sperm Function In Vitro.

In order to address the large percentage of unexplained male infertility in humans, more detailed investigations using sperm functional tests are needed to identify possible causes for compromised fertility. Since many environmental and lifestyle factors might be contributing to infertility, future studies aiming to elucidate the effect of such factors on male fertility will need the use of appropriate research models. The current study aimed to assess the effects of two heavy metals, namely copper sulphate, and cadmium chloride, on non-human primate (NHP) sperm function in order to establish

Coordination chemistry in the solid state: reactivity of manganese and cadmium chlorides with imidazole and pyrazole and their hydrochlorides.

Crystalline coordination compounds [MnCl(2)(Hpz)(2)] 3, [CdCl(2)(Hpz)(2)] 5, [MnCl(2)(Him)(2)] 9, and [CdCl(2)(Him)(2)] 13 (Him = imidazole; Hpz = pyrazole) can be synthesized in solid state reactions by grinding together the appropriate metal chloride and 2 equiv of the neutral ligand.
