New cassane-type diterpenoids with anti-inflammatory activity from the seeds of Caesalpinia sinensis.

Three undescribed cassane diterpenoids, caesall FA/FB (1/2) and caesalpin LO (3), along with known pterolobirin G (4/5), were separated from the seed kernels of Caesalpinia sinensis. Their structures were unambiguously identified in the light of extensive spectroscopic data. Bioactively, all the compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects against overproduction of NO in LPS-simulated RAW 264.7 cells by the Griess reaction. Compounds 1/2 and 4/5 exerted excellent anti-inflammatory efficacy with IC50 values of 5.8 and 7.1 μM.

Ex vivo and in vitro antiplasmodial activity and toxicity of Caesalpinia decapetala (Roth) Alston (Fabaceae).

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Malaria is among the most prevalent and devastating parasitic diseases globally with most cases reported in Sub-Saharan Africa. One of the major reasons for the high malaria prevalence is the ever-increasing emergence of resistant strains of malaria-causing parasites to the currently used antimalarial drugs. This, therefore, calls for the search for antimalarial compounds with alternative modes of action. Plants used in traditional medicine for the treatment of malaria offer possible sources of such compounds. Caesalpinia decapetala has been used traditionally f

Galloyl derivatives from Caesalpinia coriaria exhibit in vitro ovicidal activity against cattle gastrointestinal parasitic nematodes.

Gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) are responsible for enormous economic losses worldwide. The use of anthelmintic drugs reduces the parasitic burden in ruminants. However, the excessive use of these drugs triggers anthelmintic resistance in these parasites, which leads to a worrisome inefficacy of most of the commercially available antiparasitic drugs. Caesalpinia coriaria is an arboreal legume possessing medical properties, although the antiparasitic potential of this plant against animal parasitic nematodes has not yet been studied. The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro ovicidal ac

Assessment of sperm production and reproductive organs of Wistar rats to long-term exposure of Caesalpinia ferrea.

Caesalpinia ferrea Mart (Leguminosae) is a medicinal plant used to treat diabetes, among other therapeutic properties, but which is also reported to have hepatotoxic effects. Although it contains substances such as flavonoids and coumarin, which are known to have antifertility activity, no studies have apparently been conducted to evaluate the potential adverse side effects of this plant on the function of the reproductive system after a chronic treatment. Therefore, this investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect and safety of the long-term exposure to C. ferrea on male Wistar rats'
