A stationary pseudophase semi-permanent coating for open-tubular capillary liquid chromatography and electrochromatography.

We describe the chromatographic and electrochromatographic separation of small neutral and charged analytes using a fused silica capillary with a stationary pseudophase semi-permanent coating of didodecyldimethyl ammonium bromide (DDAB) aggregates. The coating was prepared by flushing the capillary with a DDAB solution that was rinsed out with the mobile phase. Our studies (i.e., electroosmotic flow measurements by capillary electrophoresis, chromatographic retention of a neutral probe and atomic force microscopy) suggested the formation of DDAB patchy admicelle, complete admicelle, or larger

Acrylate ester-based monolithic columns for capillary electrochromatography separation of triacylglycerols in vegetable oils.

A simple and reliable method for the evaluation of triacylglycerols (TAGs) in vegetable oils by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with UV-Vis detection, using octadecyl acrylate (ODA) ester-based monolithic columns, has been developed. The percentages of the porogenic solvents in the polymerization mixture, and the mobile phase composition, were optimized. The optimum monolith was obtained at the following ratios: 40:60% (wt/wt) monomers/porogens, 60:40% (wt/wt) ODA/1,3-butanediol diacrylate and 23:77% (wt/wt) 1,4-butanediol/1-propanol (14 wt% 1,4-butanediol in the polymerization mixture).

Coating of open tubular capillaries with discoidal and spherical high-density lipoprotein particles in electrochromatography.

A new method was developed for the coating of fused-silica capillaries with human high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) for use in electrochromatography. The HDL particles used for the coating differed in particle shape and composition. Both discoidal and spherical particles formed a monolayer on the inner silica wall as confirmed by atomic force microscopy. The effect of coating conditions, such as HDL concentration and coating time, was investigated with spherical HDL particles. Examination of the influence of pH on the coating stability also allowed the determination of pI values for the HDL par

Preparation and application of hydrophobic hybrid monolithic columns containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes for capillary electrochromatography.

Hydrophobic organic-inorganic hybrid monolithic columns were synthesized via thermally initiated free radical polymerization with the confines of 75 μm id capillary using a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) reagent containing eight or more methacrylate groups as the crosslinker. Three organic functional monomers, butyl methacrylate (BuMA), lauryl methacrylate (LMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA), were selected and copolymerized with the POSS in the presence of 1-propanol and 1,4-butanediol to prepare the poly(POSS-co-BuMA), poly(POSS-co-LMA), and poly(POSS-co-MAA) monoliths, respectively

[Preparation of porous organic cage and its use as chiral stationary phase for capillary electrochromatography].

Porous organic cages (POCs) are a unique type of microporous materials composed of discrete molecules with internal cavities that are accessible to various compounds. In this study, a prismatic chiral POC with good thermochemical stability was synthesized by condensing (1R,2R)-diaminocyclohexane and 3,3',5,5'-teturonic-4,4'-biphenediol via the Schiff base reaction and characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy. The IR spectrum of the POC revealed a strong characteristic absorpti

Computer simulation of electrophoretic aspects of enantiomer migration and separation in capillary electrochromatography with a neutral selector.

A computer simulation study describing the electrophoretic separation and migration of methadone enantiomers in presence of free and immobilized (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-CD is presented. The 1:1 interaction of methadone with the neutral CD was simulated by using experimentally determined mobilities and complexation constants for the complexes in a low-pH BGE comprising phosphoric acid and KOH. The use of complex mobilities represents free solution conditions with the chiral selector being a buffer additive, whereas complex mobilities set to zero provide data that mimic migration and separation with

Separation of enantiomers by nanoliquid chromatography and capillary electrochromatography using a bonded cellulose trisphenylcarbamate stationary phase.

A cellulose trisphenylcarbamate-bonded chiral stationary phase was applied to nano-liquid chromatography (nano-LC) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC) with nonaqueous and aqueous solutions as the mobile phases. Several chiral compounds were successfully resolved on the prepared phase by nano-LC. The applicability of nonaqueous CEC on a cellulose derivative stationary phase was investigated with the organic solvents methanol, hexane, 2-propanol, and tetrahydrofuran (THF) containing acetic acid, as well as triethylamine as the mobile phases. Enantiomers of warfarin and praziquantel were ba

On-line coupling of packed capillary electrochromatography with coordination ion spray-mass spectrometry for the separation of enantiomers.

Pressure-supported packed capillary electrochromatography (CEC) and packed capillary high-performance liquid chromatography (pHPLC) have been coupled on-line to electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and coordination ion spray-mass spectrometry (CIS-MS). Separation of enantiomers of barbiturates and chlorinated alkyl phenoxypropanoates were performed on a permethylated beta-cyclodextrin stationary phase by pressure-supported CEC. For on-line detection with ESI- and CIS-MS, a modified sheath-liquid interface was used. CIS-MS is a universal, novel ionization technique which improves

Open-Tubular Affinity Capillary Electrochromatography Based on Immobilized Receptor by Pore Entrapment With Metal-Organic Frameworks.

This paper introduces a novel preparation of open-tubular affinity capillary electrochromatography (OT-ACEC) columns through immobilizing proteins by pore entrapment with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to rapidly investigate drug-protein interactions. The MOFs material PCN-333(Al) was used to immobilize the model receptor bovine hemoglobin (BHb) for preparing BHb@MOFs, and the affinity chromatography BHb@MOFs/PDA@capillary was created through the immobilization of BHb@MOFs facilitated by polydopamine (PDA). The disappearance of the mesoporous pore of PCN-333 (Al) proved the encapsulation of B

Synthesis of carbon dots-based covalent organic nanomaterial as stationary phase for open tubular capillary electrochromatography.

The transformation of zero-dimensional carbon dots (CDs) to cross-linked nanomaterials is rare. In this work, a novel carbon dots-based covalent organic nanomaterial (CON CDs-TAPB) consisted of 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)-benzene (TAPB) and carbon dots (CDs) through facile Schiff-base reaction was synthesized and then employed as a stationary phase for open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC). The CON CDs-TAPB and the CDs-TAPB coated column were characterized through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-spectra experiments and X-ray

Optimization of an innovative vinylimidazole-based monolithic stationary phase and its use for pressured capillary electrochromatography.

A novel polymer monolith based on the dicationic crosslinker 3,3'-(hexane-1,6-diyl)bis(1-vinylimidazolium) bromide, the monomer 1-vinylimidazole and a ternary porogen mixture (1-propanol, decan-1-ol and water) was developed and optimized for capillary electrochromatography. This aim was accomplished by adjusting the composition of individual constituents in the polymerization mixture and monitored based on several relevant parameters (e.g. pore structure by scanning electron microscopy, generation of electroosmotic flow, or permeability of material). The ultimately selected composition yielded

The separation characteristics and performance evaluation of the silica-based poly(pentabromostyrene) stationary phase in capillary electrochromatography.

A mixed-mode capillary column packed with silica-based poly(pentabromostyrene) particles (denoted as SiO2@pPBS) was prepared and applied to capillary electrochromatography (CEC) separation. With the presence of benzene rings and bromine atoms in polymer chains, the SiO2@pPBS column provides a reversed-phase/hydrophilic mixed-mode retention mechanism owing to hydrophilic, hydrophobic and π-π interactions between the stationary phase and various analytes, including alkylbenzenes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, nucleosides, phenols and anilines. In CEC mode, the separation behavior of charged

Synthesis of a covalent organic framework with hydrazine linkages and its application in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography.

Recently, covalent organic frameworks (COFs), owning to their excellent and unique properties, are attracting the attention of numerous researchers in some areas, especially the domain of chromatographic separation. However, the application of hydrazine linkages COFs in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) lies in the early stage at present. Herein, a well-crystallized hydrazine-linked COF (Tf-DHzOH) was synthesized successfully from 2,5-dihydroxyterephtalohydrazide and 1,3,5-triformyl-benzene. Tf-DHzOH was firstly regarded as a stationary phase material to prepare the Tf-DHzO

Living cells of Staphylococcus aureus immobilized onto the capillary surface in electrochromatography: a tool for screening of biofilms.

Microorganisms attach to nonliving surfaces in many natural, industrial, and medical environments, enveloped within extracellular polymeric substances. The result is a biofilm. Biofilms are reported to exist in 65-80% of bacterial infections refractory to host defenses and antibiotics therapy and are regarded as a central problem in present-day medical microbiology. Understanding of the parameters governing the interaction of antimicrobials with biofilms is thus of great interest in any attempt to increase biocide efficacy. In this work, study was made of the feasibility of using open tubular

Chiral separation of phenoxypropionic acid herbicides via capillary electrochromatography based on dummy template-chiral molecularly imprinted polymers.

BACKGROUND: Chiral molecularly imprinted polymers (CMIPs) represent highly promising stationary phases for capillary electrochromatography (CEC), particularly in the field of chiral separation. However, current CMIPs-CEC chiral separation systems are still limited by the "one template, one target" recognition mode, which fails to meet the practical demand for broad applicability in modern chromatographic techniques. The dummy template (DT) strategy is a highly promising direction to expand the recognition scope of molecularly imprinted polymers, and holds potential for achieving wider applicat

Affinity Capillary Electrochromatography of Molecularly Imprinted Thin Layers Grafted onto Silica Capillaries Using a Surface-Bound Azo-Initiator and Living Polymerization.

Molecularly imprinted thin layers were prepared in silica capillaries by using two different surface polymerization strategies, the first using 4,4'-azobis(4-cyanovaleric acid) as a surface-coupled radical initiator, and the second, S-carboxypropyl-S'-benzyltrithiocarbonate as a reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent in combination with 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile as a free radical initiator. The ability to generate imprinted thin layers was tested on two different polymerization systems: (i) a 4-vinylpyridine/ethylene dimethacrylate (4VP-EDMA) in methanol-water solution
