Pleomorphic Giant Cell Carcinoma and Periurethral Abscess: A Case Report.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common solid malignancy in men in the UK. Pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma (PGCC) is a rare, aggressive variant of prostate adenocarcinoma. PGCC is associated with a poor prognosis and high Gleason-grade characteristics, often occurring in patients with a history of PCa treatment. This case report details the presentation of a 78-year-old male with a background of PCa, previously treated with radiotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy, who was initially diagnosed with a periurethral abscess. Despite initial treatment, the patient experienced recurrent sympt

Aggressive progression of a facial super giant basal cell carcinoma.

Super giant basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a rare oncological entity. A 52-year-old man with a history of a left upper facial lesion for 11 years was transferred to our facility seeking an evaluation. He frequented multiple hospitals where he was treated with antibiotics for this condition. He reported having the Mohs procedure 8 months prior to this hospital visit but he did not follow-up with the other institution. The physical examination revealed an ulcer involving the upper left orbito-fronto-parieto-temporal area with bone exposure. Both CT and MRI of the face and the brain demonstrated d

Giant squamous cell carcinoma of the gallbladder: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Gallbladder cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the biliary tract. The majority of cases are adenocarcinoma. Squamous cell carcinoma is the histological type present in 12% of all neoplasias accounting for approximately 12% of gallbladder neoplasms. It can occur in its pure form reaching 1%-3% of the tumors. Many patients are at an advanced stage when diagnosed and have bad therapeutic efficacy. CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old male patient presented with left flank pain for 1 year and irradiated to the mesogastric region. He denied fever, vomiting, and any other intestinal ch

Reappraisal of giant basal cell carcinoma: Clinical features and outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Giant basal cell carcinoma (GBCC) is a rare subgroup of basal cell carcinomas with a diameter of >5 cm. Current evidence about determining factors is conflicting, suggesting patient neglect, on the one hand, and biologically aggressive behaviour, on the other, with outcomes varying from clearance to death. We aimed to clarify the natural history of GBCC and its response to treatment. METHODS: We extracted information from clinical records of all patients with GBCC treated from 1998 to 2017 in a tertiary oncology hospital in northwest England. Associations between patient and tumou

Invasive squamous cell carcinoma originating from a giant penile condyloma.

In this case study, we present an unusual case with squamous cell carcinoma originating from a giant condyloma acuminata completely surrounding the penis. A 57-year-old circumcised heterosexual male patient presented with a penile lesion existing for 20 years. Incisional biopsy revealed acanthosis of the squamous epithelium. The patient was operated on under spinal anaesthesia. The lesion was resected circumferentially with macroscopic clearance, resulting in complete degloving of the penile shaft. Neurovascular bundles were preserved. The penile skin was constructed with a split thickness ski

[Squamous cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis with giant hydronephrosis].

We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of renal pelvis associated with giant hydronephrosis. A 71-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a complaint of abdominal fullness due to the right giant hydronephrosis. Although the diagnosis of her hydronephrosis was made about 20 years ago at another hospital, it had been left untreated. Computed tomography showed the right hydronephrosis of 20 x 20 x 25 cm in diameter and no evidence of tumor or calculus in the right urinary tract. For relief of her complaint, right nephrectomy was performed. The fluid content was bloody and 4,200 ml in v

Giant kidney worms in a patient with renal cell carcinoma.

Dioctophyma renale (D. renale), or giant kidney worms, are the largest nematodes that infect mammals. Approximately 20 cases of human infection have been reported. We present a case of a 71-year-old man with a recent history of unintentional weight loss and painless haematuria, passing elongated erythematous tissue via his urethra. CT revealed a left renal mass with pulmonary nodules and hepatic lesions. On microscopy, the erythematous tissue passed was identified as D. renale. On subsequent renal biopsy, pathology was consistent with renal cell carcinoma. This is the first reported case of co

[Transitional cell carcinoma of pelvis in a giant hydronephrotic kidney].

A 73-year-old man complained of macroscopic hematuria. Preoperative diagnosis was left giant hydronephrosis due to UPJ stenosis. Resected kidney unsuspectedly contained multiple papillary tumors. Ureterectomy and partial cystectomy was additionally performed. Histological examination showed transitional cell carcinoma. Urinary stasis in the dilated pelvis may have been one of the causes of carcinomatous changes in the epithelium in our case.

Endometrial giant cell carcinoma: a case series and review of the spectrum of endometrial neoplasms containing giant cells.

Poorly differentiated endometrial carcinomas of specific type include the rarely reported endometrial carcinoma with a malignant giant cell component [endometrial giant cell carcinoma (GCC)]. Since the initial description in 1991, there has only been 1 subsequent case report of this entity. We report another 5 cases. The patients ranged in age from 53 to 83 years, presenting with vaginal bleeding, anemia, or a pelvic mass. Four of the 5 tumors contained areas of endometrial adenocarcinoma of usual type, with a variable giant cell component. The conventional cell types present included 1 case w

Small intestinal carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells.

An elderly woman underwent jejunectomy for a large, stenosing neoplasm. Histologically, we found an undifferentiated carcinoma with scattered mononuclear and multinuclear macrophages in the intestine and lymph node metastases. The multinuclear cells, being acid phosphatase-positive and CD68-immunoreactive, are referred to as osteoclast-like giant cells. Hepatic secondaries were discovered 6 months postoperatively. The patient succumbed to a chemotherapy-related septic event. We suggest that intratumoral infiltration by mononuclear and multinuclear macrophages expresses one of the body's defens

Extra-Anogenital Giant Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinomas.

Extra-anogenital giant cSCCs are rare but have worse outcomes compared to smaller tumors. Prompted by limited data, the authors conducted a retrospective study to gather more information about giant cSCCs to optimize clinical care. We identified seven cases of giant cSCCs from a review of cSCC cases treated in the Unit of Dermatosurgery between 2016 and 2022. Most patients were male (85.71%) with a mean age of 80.29 ± 12.22 years. UV radiation was the most common risk factor (five cases) followed by smoking (three cases) and hidradenitis suppurativa (one case). Most giant cases were located in

Lethal medical course of an untreated giant cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common malignant skin tumor in Caucasian populations and occurs predominantly on sun-exposed areas of the body. In Germany, which has a nationwide skin cancer screening program, cSCC is usually detected in early tumor stages and can curatively be treated by surgical excision. We report the case of a 59-year-old man who had a giant untreated cSCC of the scalp and died from the local and systemic effects of the aggressively growing tumor. A subsequent medicolegal autopsy was performed. It is noteworthy that the patient had refused medic
