Cassia angustifolia is a species of plant from the Senna family that has traditionally been used as a laxative in different herbal products and commercial medicines. Even though there are few documented drug-plant interactions, the use of C. angustifolia with different drugs may have additive effects, such as with other laxatives or potassium-depleting diuretics. Its use also increases peristalsis which, may reduce drug absorption. The combination with digoxin has been associated with an increased risk of digoxin toxicity, probably due to an increase in plasma digoxin concentrations and hypoka

Cinnamomum cassia is a natural product found in plants that has been used as a folk remedy for inflammation. In this study, we investigated the mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of C. cassia extract (ECC) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced murine RAW 264.7 cells, in comparison with 4-hydroxycinnamaldehyde, a C. cassia extract component. ECC and 4-hydroxycinnamaldehyde inhibited the production of nitrite oxide in a dose-dependent manner and did not show any change in cellular toxicity when treated with the same dose as that used in the nitrite assay. Nowadays consumers are increasingly demanding food with fewer synthetic preservatives, which makes antimicrobial essential oils (EOs) from plants promising alternatives. In this work, surfactant-free emulsions were successfully fabricated from Cinnamon cassia oil (C. cassia oil) with partially deacetylated chitin nanofiber (ChNF) adopted as a Pickering stabilizer. The storage stability and microstructures of the emulsions with different concentrations of ChNF were studied in detail. As ChNF concentration increased, the emulsion droplet size decreased while the emulsion stability increased with

BACKGROUND: Nigella sativa (black cumin) and Cinnamomum cassia (Cinnamon) are an integral part of the Indian diet, and have also been sourced in the ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine, for their medicinal properties. Both the herbs individually have been successfully evaluated for their preliminary antidiabetic potential.
OBJECTIVE: Herein, we dived deeper into antidiabetic properties of these herbs, by investigating the combinatorial effect of both herbs, on parameters of diabetes and further, as an adjunct to metformin therapy, for assessing the pharmacodynamics of herb-dru

The seed of Cassia obtusifolia is a food or herbal medicine used for improving eyesight, treating constipation and other disorders, and polysaccharides have been implicated in these pharmacological activities. The endosperm of the seeds, Cassia gum, is a commercial thickening or gelling agent, composed mainly of galactomannans. However, the whole seeds of C. obtusifolia, rather than the endosperm, are used in folk medicine or food, which might contain more complex constituents of polysaccharides. In this study, the whole seeds of C. obtusifolia were extracted with boiling water, and from the w

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Cassiae Semen (dried mature seeds of Senna tora (L.) Roxb., leguminous) has a medicinal history tracing to the Divine Farmer's Classic of Materia Medica. Traditionally used in TCM and folk practice, the roasted seeds are steeped as tea, with dual medicinal-edible value. It clears liver heat, improves vision, relieves constipation, and eases metabolic issues like hyperlipidaemia. Merging its traditional effects with modern "multitarget lipid metabolism regulation" validates ancient experience and supports natural medicine development for obesity-related disorders

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Recurrent annual outbreaks of acute encephalopathy illness affecting young children have been reported for several years in many districts of western Uttar Pradesh (UP). Our earlier investigations over three consecutive years (2002-2005) proved that these outbreaks were due to a fatal multi-system disease (hepatomyoencephalopathy syndrome) probably caused by some phytotoxin and not due to viral encephalitis as believed so far. We conducted a case-control study to investigate the risk, if any, from various environmental factors and also to identify the putative toxic pla
