Mesenteric Castleman's disease.

We report here a rare case of mesenteric Castleman's disease presenting as a mesenteric mass. A 13-year-old female child was admitted to our hospital complaining of intermittent vague abdominal pain. She had hypochromic anemia, thrombocytosis and an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). Ultrasonography and computed tomography indicated an intra- abdominal mass might represent a lymphoma or gastrointestinal stromal tumor or leiomyoma, but the definitive preoperative diagnosis couldn't be confirmed. The surgical resection of the mass revealed the mesenteric hyaline vascular-type Castlem

Castleman's disease of the urachus.

Castleman's disease (angiofollicular lymphoid hyperplasia) is a rare heterogeneous group of lymphoproliferative disorders of uncertain cause. Most cases occur as mediastinal masses, although extrathoracic involvement has been reported. Castleman's disease involving the genitourinary tract, one of the most infrequent organ systems affected, has so far only been described in pararenal and retroperitoneal locations. We describe a patient with an unusual case of unicentric Castleman's disease that was located in a urachal remnant and bore a malignant appearance. The patient initially presented wit

Extrathoracic Castleman's disease.

Castleman's disease is an uncommon clinical entity. We report two cases of this disease with a brief review of literature. Both of them had extrathoracic disease which is relatively infrequent. One of them presented with localized hyaline vascular type of the disease and the other with the multicentric plasmacytic variety. The patient with the latter form of Castleman's disease had sclerodactyly, which has not been reported earlier in association with this disease.

Castleman's disease of the spleen.

INTRODUCTION: Castleman's disease (CD), also known as giant or angiofolicular lymphoid hyperplasia or lymphoid hamartoma, is a group of atypical lymphoproliferative disorders that share common lymph node histological features and may be localized either to a single lymph node (unicentric) or occur systemically (multicentric). PATIENT AND METHOD: Herein, we present a rare case of a of 75-year-old female patient who was referred to our department and after a thorough work-up, underwent splenectomy with synchronous resection of an accessory spleen, splenic artery lymph nodes, and splenic hilar l

Castleman's disease of the pleura.

Castleman's disease is a rare benign disease of the lymph nodes. Its origin from the pleura is rare. Surgical excision, when feasible, appears to provide good results. We encountered a patient who had the disease arising from the parietal pleura. We present the clinical scenario, investigations, and our management of the patient.

[Mediastinal Castleman's disease].

Castleman's disease(CD) is an uncommon lymph node syndrome, generally located in mediastinum side, rarely systemic. Two histhologic types are described: the more common, termed the hyaline-vascular type, generally asymptomatic, and the second termed plasma cell type, with systemic manifestations of the disease, like fever, anemia and weight loss. The authors present a case of a young man with Castleman's disease, treated by prednisone without reduction of the adenopathy, and thus successfully operated, and discuss about aetiopathogenic theories and treatment of this disease.

Retroperitoneal Castleman's disease.

A case of Castleman's disease localized in the retroperitoneal space is reported. A 29-year-old patient had a mass 15 cm in diameter with radial calcification. After surgical resection, both the patient's anemia and hypergammaglobulinemia disappeared. Castleman's disease should be considered when facing a solid retroperitoneal or mesenteric mass, mainly if anemia and hypergammaglobulinemia are present. Previous reports about this unusual condition are reviewed.

Castleman's disease in children.

A three and one-half-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy presented with features of the two clinical presentations of Castleman's disease or giant lymph node hyperplasia. The girl presented with anemia, fever, night sweats, hypergammaglobulinemia, and a palpable abdominal mass. Her symptoms were consistent with those seen in the plasma-cell type of this disease. The boy presented with acute appendicitis and a left hilar mass was noted on his chest radiograph. His asymptomatic presentation was typical of the hyaline-vascular form. Both patients are well without evidence of recurrence four years

Spatial transcriptomics study of Castleman disease.

BACKGROUND: Castleman Disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder of uncertain etiology, primarily characterized by painless lymphadenopathy. To further understand the possible pathogenesis of the disease, we utilized spatial transcriptomics to explore CD. METHODS: Spatial transcriptomics was performed on FFPE samples from lymph nodes of three CD patients with different histologic types and one normal lymph node. RESULTS: The sample was categorized by analysis into 14 clusters, including B cells, plasma cells, BECs, LECs, CD4 + T cells, CD8 + T cells, macrophages, monocytes, cycling

Endosonographic features of unicentric Castleman Disease.

BACKGROUND: Castleman disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder most frequently occurring in the mediastinum. Peripancreatic forms are less frequent. Few cases of endoscopic ultrasonography-fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) findings of this lesion have been reported, where no real-time tissue elastography (RTTE) has been described in the literature to our knowledge. METHODS: We describe the endosonographic, elastographic, cytologic and immunocytochemistry findings in two cases of unicentric CD of the hyaline vascular variant. RESULTS: Two females, aged 41 and 34 year were referred t

Endotracheal castleman disease: A case report.

Castleman disease (CD) is an uncommon benign lymphoid hyperplasia with several clinical and morphologic variants associated with distinct outcomes. Pulmonary CD has been reported as a rare extranodal manifestation in the literature. However, CD presenting as an obstructive mass in the airway has not been documented. We report a case of localized hyaline-vascular CD presenting as an endotracheal lesion. The patient was a 50-year-old woman with Marfan syndrome. The lesion caused near-complete airway obstruction with respiratory insufficiency. The patient underwent laser resection, and the diagno

[Castleman disease: a clinical case report].

Castleman's disease is an enigmatic lymphoid disease of unknown etiology and has different clinical manifestations. The authors present a case of a young woman with cervical localization of Castleman disease, asymptomatic. The disease was misdiagnosed and was treated for five years as thyroiditis, diagnosis confirmed by ultrasonography, scintigraphy and cytology. The particular size of the neoformation and its constant growth leaded the authors to the surgical treatment. The thyroid was normal both macroscopically and with biopsy. The neoformation was 10 cm of diameter and covered the left sid

[Angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia (Castleman disease)].

Angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia (Castleman's disease) is a relatively rare disease of differential diagnostic interest in patients with lymphadenopathy. The etiology and pathogenesis are still not elucidated. The disease is classified into localized and systemic types. The localized form is divided histologically into hyaline-vascular type and plasma cell types. The former is usually demonstrated incidentally as a widening of the mediastinum in otherwise asymptomatic patients. The plasma cell type usually presents in the abdominal lymph nodes and is accompanied by fever, loss of weight,

[Castleman disease in the pelvic retroperitoneum].

About 50% of the cases with Castleman disease firstly described by Castleman in 1956 occur in the thoracic cavity. The pelvic cavity is a rare location affected by the disease; there are only 7 reports. Herein, a case of Castleman disease of the pelvic cavity is reported. A 41-year-old man complaining of microscopic hematuria consulted us. Drip intravenous pyelography and computerized tomography showed a solitary mass at the pelvic retroperitoneum. Abnormal laboratory findings were as follows; glucose tolerance test (GTT), erythrocyte sedimentation rate, alpha 2-globulin level, CRP titer and h

Castleman disease - one name, many faces.

Castleman disease (CD) is a  mesmerising group of disorders mainly affecting lymph nodes sharing some morphological features but with heterogeneous aetiology, clinical presentation and therapeutic approaches. Morphologically, hyaline-vascular (or hypervascular), plasmacytic, and mixed types of changes are distinguished. Confirmation of the diagnosis and subtype of Castleman disease involves meeting or excluding several clinical criteria and therefore requires close cooperation with a clinician. Unicentric Castleman disease involves usually a solitary enlarged lymph node with mild symptoms and

An Elusive Diagnosis of Castleman Disease.

We present the case of a 41-year-old man with an anterior mediastinal mass and constellation of clinical symptoms, including dyspnea, pleural effusions, pericardial effusions, renal insufficiency, and pancytopenia. After inconclusive results on several laboratory tests and a nondiagnostic surgical biopsy specimen, a specimen from a second surgical biopsy identified the patient's condition as Castleman disease associated with TAFRO (thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fevers, reticulin myelofibrosis, organomegaly) syndrome. This case highlights the importance of obtaining large tissue biopsy samples, i

Clinical dissection of multicentric Castleman disease.

This study investigated the prognostic factors of Castleman disease (CD) and focused specifically on multicentric CD (MCD). Seventy patients with CD were studied. Forty-three patients (61.5%) had unicentric CD (UCD) and 27 patients (38.5%) had MCD. Thirty-six patients with UCD (83.7%) underwent surgical excision, and 25 patients with MCD (92.6%) received systemic treatment, including corticosteroids and combination chemotherapy. In the patients with MCD, age >60 years and the presence of splenomegaly were prognostic factors for progression-free survival (hazard ratio [HR] 9.01, 95% confidence

Paraneoplastic syndrome and intrathoracic Castleman disease.

We report two cases of intrathoracic Castleman disease presenting with paraneoplastic syndrome. Patient 1 was a 10-year-old girl with short stature. She was found to have delayed bone age, slow growth velocity, and iron-deficiency anemia, which was refractory to treatment. Thrombocytosis and hypergammaglobulinemia were later detected. Chest X-ray revealed a hilar mass. Patient 2 was a 14-year-old boy who had severe cough, progressive mucocutaneous erosion, and dermatitis. Chest X-ray showed a mediastinal mass. Sections of skin biopsy showed findings consistent with pemphigus disease. In each c
