A Rare Cause of Coagulopathy in the Emergency Department: Cefoperazone Use.

Cefoperazone (CPZ) is an antibiotic widely used for moderate to severe infections, especially in countries where resources are difficult to access. This case report aimed to draw attention to coagulopathy, a potential side effect of CPZ. This side effect can cause high mortality and morbidity in patients. In the mechanism of CPZ causing coagulopathy, it is reported that effects such as binding to vitamin K, disrupting vitamin K metabolism, and preventing platelet aggregation are responsible. In this presentation, a case who came to the emergency department with the complaint of hematuria cause

Comparative study of ceftriaxone and cefoperazone in the treatment of acute cholecystitis.

Forty patients with acute cholecystitis were divided into two randomized groups on the basis of the emergency antimicrobial therapy received, and were treated for a period of 5 days. The first group was given ceftriaxone (Rocephin), the second cefoperazone (Cefobis). This concomitant antimicrobial treatment of acute cholecystitis proved to be effective in 85% of the patients; 15% underwent 'à chaud' surgery on the 6th day because of a lack of response to the treatment. Ceftriaxone and cefoperazone proved to be equally effective. Use of ceftriaxone, however, was simpler (one injection a day) an

[A study of cefoperazone levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with hydrocephalus].

Eleven neurosurgical patients without intracranial infection were given 4 g cefoperazone (CPZ) intravenously for 30 minutes. Ventricular drainage was performed in 10 cases, and 1 case with cisternal drainage. Eight of 11 cases showed moderate to severe ventricular dilatation. Serum and ventricular cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of CPZ were measured for 8 hours after injection. Average peak serum concentration of CPZ was 476 micrograms/ml and the half-life was 150 minutes. Patients with obstructive hydrocephalus showed relative good penetration of CPZ in CSF (2.74 approximately 5.29 m

[Severe liver damage as a drug-allergy reaction to cefoperazone].

A 20 year old man was treated with cefoperazone for 25 days because of a local infection after an open fracture complicated by pseudarthrosis. Severe liver damage was noted on 25th day of cefoperazone treatment. There was extreme elevation of transaminases and alkaline phosphatasis as well as jaundice and prolonged prothrombin time. Upper GI bleeding, fever and acute renal failure developed. All symptoms disappeared after cessation of cefoperazone. A causal relationship between the drug and liver damage seems likely because of a positive lymphocyte stimulation test, the time relation between c

[Basic and clinical studies of sulbactam/cefoperazone in pediatric field].

We conducted several studies using a combination of sulbactam (SBT) and cefoperazone (CPZ) in a ratio of 1:1 with the following results. Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the drugs were determined in 2 rabbits with meningitis caused by S. aureus. Following intravenous injection, serum concentrations of CPZ were higher than those of SBT in both rabbits whereas CSF concentrations were much higher with sulbactam than with CPZ indicating good penetrability of SBT into CSF. The serum concentration of SBT at 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 hours after an intravenous administration of 9.8 mg/kg o

Valine potentiates cefoperazone-sulbactam to kill methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

UNLABELLED: Metabolic state-reprogramming approach was extended from Gram-negative bacteria to Gram-positive bacterium methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) for identifying desired reprogramming metabolites to synergize existing antibiotic killing to MRSA. Metabolomics comparison between MRSA and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus showed a depressed metabolic state in MRSA. Valine was identified as the most depressed metabolite/biomarker, and valine, leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis as the most enriched metabolic pathway. Thus, valine was used as a reprogramming metabo

Glucose-Potentiated Amikacin Killing of Cefoperazone/Sulbactam Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa has become one of global threat pathogens for human health due to insensitivity to antibiotics. Recently developed reprogramming metabolomics can identify biomarkers, and then, the biomarkers were used to revert the insensitivity and elevate antibiotic-mediated killing. Here, the methodology was used to study cefoperazone/sulbactam (SCF)-resistant P. aeruginosa (PA-RSCF) and identified reduced glycolysis and pyruvate cycle, a recent clarified cycle providing respiratory energy in bacteria, as the most key enriched pathways and the depressed glucose as

Severe delayed coagulopathy caused by cefoperazone/sulbactam: A case report.

This case report described a suspected severe coagulopathy attributed to cefoperazone/sulbactam, and this adverse reaction might be associated with the inhibition of the vitamin K cycle by cefoperazone/sulbactam, leading to vitamin K deficiency within the body. We reported a patient diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia, who received cefoperazone/sulbactam during hospitalization. The patient was administered cefoperazone/sulbactam via intravenous infusion at a dose of 1.5 g every 8 h for a consecutive treatment period of 23 days. On the 26th day, the patient developed a serious adverse reaction c

Antimicrobial activity, pharmacokinetics, adverse reactions, and therapeutic indications of cefoperazone.

Cefoperazone is a parenteral cephalosporin antibiotic that is pending approval by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration. Compared to most other cephalosporins cefoperazone has a greatly expanded spectrum of bactericidal activity that encompasses most aerobic gram-positive bacteria except enterococci, most aerobic gram-negative bacteria, including a majority of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, and a number of pathogenic anaerobic bacteria. Its long serum half-life, approximately two hours, permits a twelve hourly dosing schedule. No dosage modification is required in patients with renal insuffi

Immune response to colonization of Candida albicans in mice treated with Cefoperazone.

Candida species are a normal human flora in humans' digestive and reproductive systems, oral cavity, skin, and mucosal surfaces. This study aimed to detect the immunological role of Candida infection by using some immunological markers. The results of levels in serum showed high concentrations of IgA (56.20 ± 12 pg/ml,29.55 ± 4.5 pg/ml respectively) and IgG (12.05 ± 3.218 pg/ml, 3.836 ± 1.23 pg/ml respectively) in mice infected with C. albicans and mice treated with Cefoperazone and infected with Candida with significant differences (P value < 0.05).
