The mast-cell sarcoma of a bone is described here for the first time. The tumour presented in a 4-year-old boy, with pain, oedema and deformation of his right lower leg. Radiological findings revealed a destructive tumourous mass. Histopathological examination showed the tumour to be composed of large, atypical cells, with hyperchromatic oval and polygonal nuclei. A 22-year-old man presented with mediastinal lymphoma and lymphoblastic leukemia. The leukemic cells in his blood and marrow did not stain positively with Sudan black B, peroxidase, chloroacetate esterase, or nonspecific esterase, and were considered as either lymphoblasts or stem cells. One year after the initial presentation, acute myelomonocytic leukemia developed and he died. Carboxymethylation of paramylon, a storage polysaccharide of Euglena, was explored using homogeneous and heterogeneous reaction systems. Homogeneous reactions yielded carboxymethyl paramylons with a low degree of substitution of carboxymethyl group (DScm) of ∼0.13. We report a case of granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) presenting as a giant breast tumor in a pregnant woman with no history of leukemia. A 72 year old man was diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) according to the FAB group classification. He presented with symptoms of anaemia, urinary frequency, hesitancy, and nocturia. He was later admitted with acute urinary retention and acute renal failure, which resolved with treatment. CONTEXT: Myeloid sarcoma is a neoplasm of myeloid cells that can arise before, concurrent with, or following acute myeloid leukemia. Rarely, it can also occur as an isolated mass.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinicopathologic features of 6 patients with myeloid sarcoma involving the breast.
DESIGN: Clinical information for all 6 patients was obtained from the medical record. Routine hematoxylin-eosin-stained slides; naphthol AS-D chloroacetate stain; and immunohistochemical stains for myeloid, B-cell, and T-cell antigens were prepared.

An efficient synthesis of chiral dihydrooxazines (2) from 1-aryl-2-amino-propane-1,3-diols (1) via the corresponding bistrichloroacetimidate intermediates has been developed. In this transformation, one trichloroacetimidate acts as a leaving group and the other acts as a nucleophile. The cyclization proceeds through an SN1 mechanism to provide trans-dihydrooxazines with complete diastereoselectivity irrespective of the absolute configuration of the benzylic alcohol. We describe a patient with fever and multiple osteolytic bone lesions accompanied by hypercalcemia, a duodenal ulcer, anemia, and thrombocytopenia.
