The chondroblastoma (CB) is a rare cartilaginous tumour; it represents less than 1% of all bone tumours. It is mostly localised at the level of the epiphysis of long bones. We report a fatal case of pure metaphyseal CB of the tibia in a 9-year-old boy whose pulmonary metastases developed soon after operative therapy of the primary tumour.

A 24-year-old male presented with an inability to walk after a trivial fall. He had pain and mild swelling anterior to the right knee for the past one year. X-ray showed a transverse fracture of patella with a lytic lesion occupying most of the two halves of the patella. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the lytic lesion revealed a few osteoclastic giant cells and occasional osteoblasts against a hemorrhagic background. Patellectomy was performed. Histology revealed trabecular bone admixed with proliferating chondroid tissue at places admixed with myxoid and fibrous tissue with focal a

Benign chondroblastoma is an unusual solitary bone tumor occurring usually in the second decade in a long bone. The tumor is often sited on epiphyseal cartilages. Very few examples of malignant variants have been documented, although local recurrence of benign tumors is not unusual. We wish to report a patient who developed two chondroblastomas in two distinct anatomical sites (tibia and calcaneus) over the space of seven years, with no clinical or histological features of malignant disease.

OBJECTIVE: Chondroblastoma (CB) is a benign but locally aggressive bone tumor that may present histopathologic diagnostic challenges, particularly in atypical locations and limited biopsy specimens. Recent studies have identified recurrent mutations in the H3F3B and, less frequently, H3F3A genes, suggesting their potential diagnostic value. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and diagnostic utility of H3F3A and H3F3B mutations in a multicenter cohort of CB patients.
METHODS: Forty-three patients with histopathologically confirmed CB were included in a retrospective analysis. All cases

Chondroblastomas are rare primary bone tumours typically affecting the epiphyses and less frequently the apophyses of the growing skeleton. Most cases are treated by intralesional curettage with or without local adjuvants and this technique can produce good long-term outcomes. Herein, we describe a case of chondroblastoma of the greater trochanter in a 12-year-old male child that was treated by intralesional curettage and grafting with calcium phosphate bone cement (Neocement Inject® P, Bioceramed, Loures, Portugal). A brief review of the literature is also presented.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of expanded curettage in the treatment of chondroblastoma.
METHODS: The clinical data of 37 patients with chondroblastoma who were treated with expanded curettage between January 2011 and May 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 24 males and 13 females, with a median age of 17 years (range, 12-30 years). There were 32 primary patients and 5 recurrent patients. Local pain was the first symptom in all patients. The average disease duration was 4.9 months (range, 2-8 months). The lesions were located in the distal femur in 10 cases, the proximal

Chondroblastoma is an uncommon osseous neoplasm that accounts for less than 1% of all bone tumours. It characteristically arises in the epiphysis or epimetaphyseal region of long bones and has been reported to affect people of all ages with slight male predilection. WHO has defined chondroblastoma as 'a benign, cartilage-producing neoplasm usually arising in the epiphyses of skeletally immature patients'. The authors document the cytological features on fine-needle aspiration cytology of a chondroblastoma which appeared as a lytic lesion in the upper end of the right fibula, an uncommon site,

Chondroblastoma is a benign tumor that typically arises in the epiphysis of a long bone. There have been only 2 reported cases of chondroblastoma involving the capitate. This is the first report of chondroblastoma with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst involving the capitate. A 33-year-old man presented with a 3-year history of pain and swelling of the right wrist. Radiography as well as computed tomography showed a radiolucent area and no matrix calcification within the capitate. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a homogeneous signal that was low on T1-weighted images and high on T2-weighted i

Chondroblastoma is a rare benign chondroid bone tumor, which typically arises from the epiphysis of a long tubular bone. We present a 13-year-old girl with persistent hip synovitis caused by a chondroblastoma that arose from the femoral neck (metaphysis) and uniquely extended extraosseously into the hip joint. Computed tomography scan clearly demonstrated a tumoral lesion of the left femoral neck and a periosteal reaction along the anterior cortex of the femur, distal to the legion. Magnetic resonance imaging showed reactive synovitis with marked joint effusion of the hip and an extensive edem

Chondroblastoma is a rare, benign cartilaginous neoplasm that accounts for approximately 1% of all bone tumors, and approximately 4% of all chondroblastomas arise in the talus. Here we report a case of chondroblastoma in the left talus. The 22-year-old male patient presented with a 16-month history of ankle pain. Based on radiological and pathological examination, we diagnosed the patient with chondroblastoma. A posterolateral approach was used to allow access to the lesion. After curettage, the allogenic bone chips were packed into the talar body defect. After 2 years' follow-up, we found no

The authors describe a young adult patient with a chondroblastoma and associated aneurysmal bone cyst of the cuboid. Although chondroblastoma has been reported to occur in tarsal bones, the cuboid is a very rare location. The association of chondroblastoma with an aneurysmal bone cyst in long bones has been well documented. However, this association in the cuboid has not been reported in the English literature. A 20-year-old man with a 4-month history of foot pain localized to the lateral border of the foot and ankle presented with an expansile lesion in the cuboid bone with a nondisplaced pat

BACKGROUND: Chondroblastomas are rare epiphyseal bone tumors. Very few cases with extra-cortical aggressive soft tissue invasion or metastasis are reported.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 28 year-old adult male who presented with a large swelling over the left shoulder region. Pre-operative imaging revealed a large tumor arising from upper end of humerus with extensive soft tissue involvement necessitating a fore-quarter amputation. Patient received adjuvant radiation.
CONCLUSIONS: This patient is one of the largest chondroblastomas to be reported. Although chondroblastomas are typically ben

Chondroblastoma is a benign neoplasm of bone and most often arises from the epiphysis of long bones. Recognition of this tumor can be difficult and is often only confirmed on histological examination. Radiographic studies can demonstrate findings that mimic other tumors such as giant cell and aneurysmal cysts. Proper identification and management of this tumor has as high as a 90% success rate in eradication.

The clinical and radiographic findings in 104 patients with chondroblastoma are presented. Pain was an almost constant presenting complaint, often accompanied in the case of para-articular lesions by impaired function of an adjacent joint. The majority (80%) were in long bones with a mean age of presentation of 16 years. The characteristic radiological image of these lesions was an eccentric radiolucency, having a sharply defined sclerotic margin and containing areas of calcification in approximately a third of cases. They were always related to a growth plate. Nearly half were confined to the

BACKGROUND: Chondroblastoma (CBL) of the femoral head is a rare disease, typically encountered in the epiphysis of long bones, with its occurrence in the femoral head being particularly uncommon. The unique location and aggressive nature of this tumor pose substantial challenges in its treatment, leading to ongoing controversies regarding the therapeutic approaches. In this study, we introduce a technique of curettage without surgical dislocation as a treatment option for CBL in this challenging location.
METHODS: A total of 6 children diagnosed with chondroblastoma of the femoral head underw

AIMS: Histones are essential components of chromatin, and mutations in histones lead to alterations in methylation and acetylation, which play an important role in tumorigenesis. Most of the chondroblastomas harbour the H3K36M mutation. With the availability of a mutation-specific antibody, we sought to assess the sensitivity of this antibody and the alterations of histone methylation in a series of chondroblastoma cases.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Immunohistochemical staining with antibodies against H3K36M, trimethylated histones (H3K27me3 and H3K36me3) and an osteoblastic marker (SATB2) was perfo
