Epibulbar osseous choristoma: a case report.

Peribulbar osseous choristoma is a benign, solid nodule; it is a subtype of epibulbar choristomas (belongs to single tissue choristomas), consisting of pure bony tissues. Epibulbar osseous choristoma is the rarest subtype of epibulbar choristomas, with only 65 cases reported since the mid-19th century; so, the rarity of the disease drove me to report it. A 7-year-old female presented with a painless left ocular superotemporal mass, which was present since birth and located under the conjunctiva. The primary diagnoses included lipodermoid and subconjunctival foreign bodies. Ocular interventions

Histopathologically Proven Tarsal Lacrimal Gland Choristoma.

Ectopic lacrimal glands, also known as lacrimal gland choristomas, are seen in various areas of the eyes and are characterized by their placement outside of their typical anatomical position. While tarsal lacrimal gland choristomas are uncommon, the bulbar conjunctiva and limbal area have been identified as the most frequent sites. Herein, we report a 32-year-old female with a mass on the left lower eyelid conjunctiva that is histopathologically proved to be a lacrimal gland choristoma.

Epibulbar osseous choristoma: Two case reports.

BACKGROUND: Choristoma is a rare, benign, congenital proliferative tumor, with osseous choristoma being the rarest. Although the tumor is benign, effective identification is needed for its diagnosis and treatment. Here, we report the diagnosis and successful surgical treatment of two patients with osseous choristoma. CASE SUMMARY: Two patients, a young female and young male patient, were found to have a mass on the ocular surface. The tumor presented on the superior temporal bulbar conjunctiva in the first patient and on the upper eyelid in the second patient. Ultrasound biomicroscopy detecte

Lingual Choristoma with Gastric Epithelium Revisited.

The term 'choristoma' refers to normal appearing tissue in an abnormal location. We describe a case of choristoma with gastric epithelium of the dorsal tongue in a pediatric patient. Lingual choristomas are uncommon cystic or solid lesions which may demonstrate different types of tissue (e.g. gastric epithelium, respiratory epithelium, osseous and neuroglial tissue) histologically. Choristomas with gastric epithelium, also known as heterotropic gastric mucosa or foregut duplication cysts, are thought to arise from pluripotential cells of the embryonic foregut. They most frequently involve the

Epibulbar osseous choristoma: A case report.

PURPOSE: To present the case of a 12-year-old female with an epibulbar osseous choristoma. OBSERVATIONS: The patient presented with right-sided conjunctival mass, which caused her discomfort. Slit lamp examination revealed a 5×5-mm, firm nodule in the superotemporal quadrant of the bulbar conjunctiva. The nodule had feeder vessels, adhered firmly to the sclera, and lacked signs of malignancy. The patient underwent excisional biopsy under general anesthesia. During this procedure, great care was taken to avoid perforation of the globe. The pathologic sections were significant for well-circumsc

Lacrimal Gland Choristoma and Associated Ocular Anomalies: A Review and Description of a Bilateral Gland Choristoma With Unique Features.

Lacrimal gland (LG) choristomas are ectopically located lacrimal gland tissue that present as mass lesions, and their diagnosis is confirmed by histopathology. The current study reviews cases of lacrimal gland choristoma published between 2016 and 2025 and reports a rare case of bilateral epibulbar lacrimal gland choristoma associated with a limbal dermoid and ocular colobomatous anomalies in a young female. LG choristomas have been reported in the conjunctiva, eyelid, orbit, lacrimal drainage system, and intraocular structures. They can be simple or have associated syndromic presentations suc

Muscular and collagenous cerebellar choristoma in a dog.

This report aims to describe the first case of muscular and collagenous choristoma in a dog. A 10-yr-old female mixed-breed dog presented with lateral recumbence, vocalization, positional vertical nystagmus, divergent strabismus, anisocoria, and status epilepticus. The clinical condition evolved to stupor and ultimately, death. Necropsy revealed a white mass causing an irregular increase in the volume of the cerebellar vermis. In histological analysis, a well circumscribed, unencapsulated mass was observed in the cerebellum, consisting of fibers of striated skeletal muscle and collagen fibers,

Osseous Choristoma of the Tongue: A Case Report.

The cardiac sodium channel is comprised of proteins that span the cardiac cell membrane and form the channel pore. Depolarisation causes the proteins to move and open the sodium channel. Once the channel is open (active conformation), sodium ions move into the cell. The channel then changes from the active conformation to an inactive conformation - the channel remains open, but influx of sodium ions ceases. Recovery occurs as the channel moves from the inactive conformation back to the closed conformation and is then ready to open following the next depolarisation. Sodium channel blocking drug

A Lacrimal Gland Choristoma of the Lacrimal Sac.

Choristomatous lacrimal gland tissue has been detected in many different sites of the ocular adnexa, but has never before been convincingly described in the submucosa of the lacrimal sac. A 77-year-old woman with epiphora had a biopsy of the sac wall preformed during a dacryocystorhinostomy that contained such a lacrimal choristoma. Zymogen granules were found in the cytoplasm of the secretory cells with the periodic acid-Schiff reaction. No mucus-producing cells, as found in normal sac submucosal glands, were detected using the Alcian blue, mucicarmine, and Gomori methenamine silver histochem
