Structural characterisation of Cistanche tubulosa polysaccharides and their effects against non-alcoholic steatohepatitis via gut microbiota regulation.

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a growing global health burden for which there are no approved drugs. Cistanche tubulosa is a traditional Chinese medicine, with polysaccharide as one of its active components. However, its physicochemical structure is unclear, and no research has assessed its effect on NASH. In this study, polysaccharides from C. tubulosa were extracted using an aqueous alcoholic precipitation method. Two polysaccharides, named CTAN and CTBN, were successfully obtained after separation and purification through column chromatography. CTAN was identified as a polysacchari

Cistanche deserticola polysaccharide induces melanogenesis in melanocytes and reduces oxidative stress via activating NRF2/HO-1 pathway.

As a main part of pigmentation disorders, skin depigmentation diseases such as vitiligo and achromic naevus are very common and get more attention now. The pathogenesis of depigmentation includes melanocyte dysfunction and loss, which are possibly caused by heredity, autoimmunity and oxidative stress. Among them, oxidative stress plays a key role; however, few clinical treatments can deal with oxidative stress. As reported, Cistanche deserticola polysaccharide (CDP) is an effective antioxidant; based on that, we evaluated its role in melanocyte and further revealed the mechanisms. In this stud
