BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to evaluate coronary artery fistulas (CAFs) in coronary computed tomography angiography (coronary CTA) and verify whether there is correlation between the fistula's morphology and other cardiac functional findings and clinical data.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A group of 14,308 patients who were diagnosed in coronary CTA was retrospectively analysed. Achieved data were related to referrals.
RESULTS: Coronary artery fistula frequency was 0.43% in the examined population. The assessment of coronary artery disease was the most frequent indication for the examinat

In patients with stable symptoms suggestive of coronary artery disease (CAD), coronary CT angiography (CTA) allows for assessing several aspects of coronary atherosclerosis. Coronary artery stenoses are reliably detected, plaque formation can be quantified and characterized as calcified or non-calcified, and markers of potential instability such as expansive vascular remodeling, spotty calcification, and atheroma size can be described. As opposed to invasive coronary angiography, CTA visualizes the vessel lumen and wall. Being a purely anatomic test, even small plaques are detected with excell

AIMS: Coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs) are incidentally revealed by coronary angiography and consist in a localized dilation of a coronary artery. Although invasive coronary angiography (ICA) is the gold standard imaging technique, it can lead to the underestimation of CAAs diameter in presence of parietal thrombi. Computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) is a very sensitive tool in CAAs detection and provides a clear visualization of coronary lumen highlighting intraluminal thrombi.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We retrospectively reviewed 390 CTCA performed at our institution, 9 patients (6 m

BACKGROUND: Live donor nephrectomy has gained popularity on account of the laparoscopic technique, to overcome a small donor pool. Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy requires a precise study of the vascular and morphological renal anatomy, as laparoscopy is technically challenging due to the limited field of vision. In-depth knowledge of the renal anatomy before a laparoscopic procedure is essential for a successful transplant. The left kidney is preferred over the right even in cases of multiple vessels because of the long renal vein, which requires precise preoperative vascular mapping. Helical

The authors report a case of Castleman's disease in the mediastinum that was discovered in a young woman receiving high-dose steroids for oral pemphigus vulgaris. Computed tomography demonstrated that the mass was calcified and was markedly enhanced after intravenous injection of contrast material, a manifestation of the hyaline-vascular histologic variant. Arteriography proved invaluable in planning the surgical approach to this highly vascular mass. Because Castleman's disease is rare most radiologists are not familiar with the radiographic features and are unaware that profuse hemorrhage ma

We aimed to review computed tomography and magnetic resonance angiography of congenital anomalies of pulmonary veins. Total anomalous pulmonary venous return shows all pulmonary veins drain abnormally in another site rather than left atrium. Imaging can detect anomalous veins either supracardiac, infracardiac, or mixed. Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return shows some pulmonary vein have abnormal drainage that well delineated with computed tomography angiography. Scimitar syndrome is a type of partial anomalous pulmonary venous return where the pulmonary veins of the right lung drain infra

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to compare multislice computed tomography angiography (MSCTA) to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for vascular mapping of the head and neck.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In 50 patients who were scheduled for microvascular reconstruction of the mandible with osteomyocutaneous flaps, MSCTA was carried out before surgery. DSA served as the method of reference. Selective common carotid angiograms were acquired in 2 projections for both sides of the neck. A 64-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) was carried out with a dual-phase protocol, using the arterial phase

BACKGROUND: Alveococcosis, helminthiasis caused by the larvae of Alveococcus multilocularis, is characterized by the formation of parasitic nodes in the liver. This clinical case is a rare occurrence of liver alveococcosis in Uzbekistan.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 33-year-old Asian woman from Uzbekistan who complained of discomfort in the epigastric region and right hypochondrium, along with general weakness. She had been experiencing symptoms for 5 months when a routine ultrasound examination revealed a structural formation in the liver. Patient was investigated by using contr

(1) Background: The novel SARS-CoV-2 virus infects the endothelium. Vasculitis may lead to specific coronary artery wall lesions. Coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) imaging findings have not been systematically reported. The aim of this study was to describe a case series using CTA. (2) Methods: Patients with recent RT-PCR confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection referred for coronary CTA for clinical indications (e.g., chest pain, troponin+, and ECG abnormalities) were included. Coronary CTA findings, such as atypical coronary lesions suggestive of vasculitis, perivascular inflammation meas

Coronary arteries have a wide range of anatomical variability, and their spectrum ranges from asymptomatic cases to those predisposed to hemodynamic compromise or even sudden cardiac death. This paper aims to review the classification of coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) and illustrate their imaging characteristics by highlighting the important role of CT coronary angiography. Some of the coronary anomalies usually met in current practice are the high origin coronary artery, multiple ostia, aberrant origin from the opposite/non-coronary Valsalva sinus, single coronary artery, ALCAPA syndrome, d

INTRODUCTION: Aortic valve calcification (AVC) has been associated with major adverse cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. We sought to develop and validate a method to quantify AVC using coronary CT angiography (CTA).
METHODS: Of 59 patients who underwent both non-contrast and contrast enhanced coronary CTA, 25 patients served as the derivation cohort and 34 patients served as the validation cohort. For non-contrast enhanced CT, quantification of AVC was performed using the Agatston method for coronary artery calcification (CAC). For contrast enhanced coronary CTA, a region of inte

BACKGROUND: This article illustrates, summarizes, and reviews the multifaceted application of four-dimensional (4D) computed tomography angiography (CTA) in the characterization and diagnosis of various cerebrovascular and tumor-associated vascular pathologies through the presentation of clinical cases, including acute and chronic stroke, arteriovenous malformations, aneurysm, moyamoya disease, and hypervascularity associated with a tumor and its relationship to preoperative embolization. The technical nuances and limitations of the 4D-CTA technique are also discussed.

Gastrointestinal bleeding represents a common medical emergency, with considerable morbidity and mortality rates, and a prompt diagnosis is essential for a better prognosis. In such a context, endoscopy is the main diagnostic tool; however, in cases where the gastrointestinal hemorrhage is massive, the exact bleeding site might go undetected. In addition, a trained professional is not always present to perform the procedure. In an emergency setting, optical colonoscopy presents limitations connected with the absence of bowel preparation, so most of the small bowel cannot be assessed. Scintigra

Cardiac multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) has become a useful noninvasive modality for anatomical imaging of coronary artery disease (CAD). Currently, the main clinical advantage of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) appears to be related to its high negative predictive value at low or intermediate pretest probability for CAD. With the development of technical aspects of MDCT, clinical practice and research are increasingly shifting toward defining the clinical implication of plaque morphology, myocardial perfusion, and patient outcomes. The presence of positive vessel remo

A diverticulum is a bulging sack in any portion of the gastrointestinal tract. Small intestine diverticular disease is much less common than colonic diverticular disease. The most common symptoms include non-specific epigastric pain and a bloating sensation. Major complications include diverticulitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute perforation, intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation, localized abscess, malabsorption, anemia, volvulus and bacterial overgrowth. We report one case of massive jejunal diverticula bleeding and one case of massive colonic diverticula bleeding, both diagnose

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Cerebral artery fenestrations (CAF) are rare congenital variations usually diagnosed by digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The aim of this study was to examine the frequency of occurrence of fenestrations in cerebral arteries and their coexistence with cerebral aneurysms in computed tomography angiography (CTA).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: All reports of cerebral CTA (1140) performed in one institution from March 2005 to December 2007 were analysed. We found 40 patients with single fenestrations of the intracranial arteries. All 40 examinations were retrospectively revie
