The Conceptual Analysis of Collaboration in the Occupational Therapy by Combining the Scoping Review Methodology.

BACKGROUND: Collaboration is an important concept in goal-setting in occupational therapy. However, this concept is not stable due to various definitions. The purpose of this study was to clarify the concept of collaboration in occupational therapy. METHOD: A scoping review was used to search for all articles related to occupational therapy and collaboration. PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and OT Seeker searches were conducted using predetermined keywords. Three examiners independently reviewed and assessed the quality of each study using Walker and Avant's concept analysis method. RESULTS:

"Family-as-Root" and "Family-Centeredness" in hospice care: a concept analysis and implications for nursing practice.

BACKGROUND: Families are widely recognised as central actors in hospice and palliative care, and “family-centered care” has become a dominant practice model. However, the ontological and axiological status of the family in many cultural contexts—particularly East Asian Confucian traditions—extends far beyond the functional roles usually described by family-centeredness. This study conceptualizes and clarifies “Family-as-Root” - a culturally grounded, ontological-axiological orientation to family that is widely recognizable in Chinese contexts but remains under-theorized in international hospic

Pandemic influenza: an evolutionary concept analysis.

AIM: The aim of this paper was to provide a concept analysis of 'pandemic influenza'. BACKGROUND: Pandemic influenza can have a devastating impact as individuals have little to no immunity towards the newly encountered virus. It is a persistent societal threat due to the advancement of multiple technological processes. Nurses work in multiple roles in pandemics. As such, a thorough understanding of the concept and its implications from a nursing perspective is required. DESIGN: Rodgers' Evolutionary Method was used to conduct the concept analysis of the term 'pandemic influenza'. DATA SOURC

Harm reduction as a treatment model for alcohol use disorder: A concept analysis.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol use disorder (AUD), the most prevalent substance use disorder globally, remains underdiagnosed and undertreated, highlighting the urgent need for expanded access to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and harm reduction strategies. Harm reduction has gained recognition as a viable alternative to abstinence-based treatment models. However, its application in the treatment of AUD remains ambiguous and is often subject to misconceptions. PURPOSE: The purpose of this concept analysis is to provide clarification on the concept of harm reduction within the context of AUD treat

Spiritual Care Competence in Palliative Care: A Concept Analysis.

Care is a multidimensional concept that includes spirituality as a dynamic and integrative aspect of human experience. Integrating spirituality into clinical practice enables a more comprehensive response to the full spectrum of human needs, which is why spiritual care competence emerges as an aptitude that fits the profile and skills to be developed by those working on care provision. Regrettably, not enough attention has been paid to spiritual care competence largely due to the lack of knowledge of professionals and what this entails. Therefore, this study aims to define the main attributes

Is Splitting Related to Resistance to Proactive Interference? A Process-Oriented Study of Kernberg's Conceptualization of Splitting.

INTRODUCTION: Splitting, as a defense mechanism in Kernberg's theory, plays a significant role in the development and maintenance of polarized and oscillating representations of self/other characteristics of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Although the notion of splitting can be considered from a structural and a functional point of view, almost all empirical studies to date have focused on the former elements to the detriment of related cognitive processes. METHODS: To further investigate the cognitive processes related to splitting, 60 participants were administered the Splitting Ind

Newborn infants perceive abstract numbers.

Although infants and animals respond to the approximate number of elements in visual, auditory, and tactile arrays, only human children and adults have been shown to possess abstract numerical representations that apply to entities of all kinds (e.g., 7 samurai, seas, or sins). Do abstract numerical concepts depend on language or culture, or do they form a part of humans' innate, core knowledge? Here we show that newborn infants spontaneously associate stationary, visual-spatial arrays of 4-18 objects with auditory sequences of events on the basis of number. Their performance provides evidence

Learning from generic language.

Generic language (e.g., "Birds have hollow bones") conveys generalizations about categories and is a fundamental and ubiquitous mechanism of learning about the world. How exactly learning from generics occurs, however, is unclear: Generics exhibit so much flexibility in how they are interpreted that a formal, quantitative theory of how generic language updates beliefs has not only never been developed or tested, but the very notion has often been explicitly dismissed. Here, we explore a hypothesis implicit in the work of Tessler and Goodman (2019) that generics update beliefs via an uncertain

Learning and Representation of Categories in the Rodent Brain.

Category learning-the ability to group individual objects, experiences, and concepts into higher-level abstract representations-is fundamental to fast, flexible decision-making and generalization of knowledge to novel situations. While categories and concepts have traditionally been studied in humans and nonhuman primates, this review puts the focus on the lesser-known domain of rodent category learning. Within the context of human and nonhuman primate work, we highlight the behavioral capabilities and limitations of rodents in categorization tasks, and discuss the neural circuits identified s

Semantic properties and categorization norms for the 260 Snodgrass and Vanderwart objects: A 45-year conceptual update to a classic set.

We present a new set of English property norms for 260 object concepts based on the standardized Snodgrass and Vanderwart (1980) picture set. For each object, 100 participants provided a basic-level label (dog), a superordinate category (animal), and three features (bark, tail, fur), yielding a dataset of 78,000 features. Our norms differ from other datasets in four important ways: they (1) probe basic-level information, (2) separate taxonomic and feature information, (3) use open-ended responses for natural descriptions, and (4) include a larger number of responses per object (100 vs. ~ 30 pa

Alarm Management Competence in Clinical Nursing Practice: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

AIMS: To clarify the defining attributes, antecedents, and consequences of alarm management competence in clinical nursing practice and to develop a conceptual definition and framework. BACKGROUND: Clinical alarms are integral to patient monitoring, yet effective alarm management requires more than technical device operation. Alarm-related knowledge, skills, judgment, behaviors, and fatigue have been examined across the literature, but the concept of alarm management competence remains insufficiently defined. Treatment Delay in Patients With Diabetes-Related Foot Ulcers: A Walker and Avant Concept Analysis.

Treatment delay is a critical yet inconsistently defined concept in diabetes-related foot ulcer (DFU) care, hindering comparability across studies and clinical interpretation. This study aimed to clarify the concept of treatment delay in patients with DFU using Walker and Avant's concept analysis method. Eleven databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, CNKI, WanFang, VIP, SinoMed) were searched from inception to June 5, 2026. Peer-reviewed studies addressing DFU-related treatment delay were included. Twenty-four studies were analyzed. Two defining

Investigating infant knowledge with representational similarity analysis.

Decades of research have pushed us closer to understanding what babies know. However, a powerful approach - representational similarity analysis (RSA) - is underused in developmental research. I discuss the strengths of this approach and what it can tell us about infant conceptual knowledge. As a case study, I focus on numerosity as a domain where RSA can make unique progress.

Bewilderment, aquilombar, and the antimanicolonial: three ideas to radicalize Brazilian Psychiatric Reform.

This article is part of a study aimed to map antiracist knowledge and practices in mental health by monitoring the practices of three collectives of professionals working in/with the psychosocial care network in the city of São Paulo, allowing us to characterize their intervention strategies. To contribute to the conceptualization of this article, through a review of the decolonial literature, three major ideas have been outlined that have allowed us to give substance to the decolonization of Psychiatric Reform: bewilderment, which, in dialogue with Achille Mbembe and Frantz Fanon, invites us

Why boys cry and don't cry: The Contextual-Statistical (ConStat) approach to the perceived validity of generics.

People judge the validity of bare plural generic generalizations ('generics' for short, e.g., 'Women are empathic') in a notoriously fickle way. We present the Contextual-Statistical (ConStat) framework to explain these judgments, showing that they follow consistent principles and are therefore logical and predictable. ConStat rests upon the assumption that generics transmit information of relevance for action. It consists of five tenets. (1) People may understand generics as being meant normatively or descriptively. If they deem a generic normative, they endorse or reject it - a decision that

Multidimensional conceptualization of identity and psychopathology: Assessing mental health disparities from an intersectional and dimensional framework.

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) currently constitute 40% of the US population and will become the majority by 2045. Current mental health systems have not sufficiently accounted for disparities, inequities, and social determinants impacting BIPOC lives. We outline several advances that could improve mental health disparities research. Research on BIPOC requires mental health assessment accurately capturing multiple facets of one's identity, taking into account the complexities of multifaceted historical oppression. Assessing (personality) psychopathology in a dimensional and hie
