Concurrent lymphocytic hypophysitis and pituitary adenoma. Case report and review of the literature.

Lymphocytic hypophysitis (LyH) is an uncommon intrasellar lesion characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the adenohypophysis. Evidence suggests that the cause is autoimmune, and the symptoms are usually related to either a mass effect or endocrine dysfunction. Lymphocytic hypophysitis has been described rarely in the setting of other simultaneous pathological processes that involve the pituitary and sella turcica, and is postulated to arise from an intrinsic inflammatory response. The authors report the case of a 43-year-old woman who presented with a 2-month history of galactorrhea and p

Concurrent pulmonary infection and perinephric abscess: a case report and literature review.

This report details the case of a 64-year-old male with well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The patient presented with a 20-day history of progressive dyspnea, cough, and intermittent fever, which worsened despite antibiotic treatment. The initial assessment revealed leukocytosis, neutrophilia, and abnormal chest computed tomography (CT) findings, which led to a provisional diagnosis of pulmonary infection. However, empirical antibacterial therapy was ineffective. Further investigations revealed a right perinephric abscess and empyema caused by an oral anaerobic bacteria

Concurrent seronegative spondyloarthropathy and Takayasu's arteritis: a case report and literature review.

Seronegative spondyloarthropathy (SpA) and Takayasu's arteritis (TA) are distinct chronic inflammatory conditions with autoimmune characteristics. While both conditions are relatively common, their concurrent occurrence is rare. This case report presents an individual diagnosed with both SpA and TA, detailing the clinical presentation, disease course, and therapeutic interventions. A review of relevant literature is also included to enhance clinical awareness of this uncommon combination. For that patients with SpA who exhibit elevated inflammatory markers, intermittent low-grade fever, fatigu

Concurrent Pediatric Lingual and Submental Dermoid Cysts: Case Report and Literature Review.

This pediatric case report describes the novel finding of concurrent submental and lingual dermoid cysts, which to our knowledge, has not been previously reported in the literature. The etiology of cysts involving the tongue, floor of the mouth, and submental neck is varied, representing congenital, inflammatory, and neoplastic sources. Dermoid cysts involving these regions are uncommon and are most frequently reported in the submental, sublingual, and lingual spaces. Presenting symptoms vary with cyst size and position relative to the mylohyoid muscle. MRI is the preferred modality to differe

Concurrent COVID-19 and Acute HIV: A Case Report and Diagnostic Review.

A 26-year-old male presented to the emergency department feeling unwell in February of 2021 with symptoms including diaphoresis, loose stools, and loss of taste sensation. Workup not only confirmed a diagnosis of COVID-19 but also revealed discordant HIV test results, with a reactive fourth-generation antigen/antibody test but a negative HIV-1/2 differentiation immunoassay. Subsequent HIV viral load testing obtained two days later ultimately established a diagnosis of acute HIV (AHI). Screening for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is crit

Spontaneous bilateral and concurrent cerebrospinal fluid otorrhoea: case presentation and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Cerebrospinal fluid otorrhoea is a rare entity. Only a few cases of spontaneous bilateral cerebrospinal fluid otorrhoea have been reported. In all cases, there was a definite time interval between the two (left and right) presentations. OBJECTIVES: To raise awareness and report on the very rare entity of bilateral spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid otorrhoea. CASE REPORT: This paper reports the case of a bilateral, synchronous, spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid otorrhoea in a 44-year-old female. The patient had grommets surgically inserted on two separate occasions for treatment of ot

Concurrent Eosinophilic Esophagitis and Gastritis in an Adolescent: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Functional gastrointestinal disorders represent the most common cause of gastrointestinal complaints and do not require extensive diagnostic evaluation. However, the presence of so-called red flag symptoms, such as dysphagia or nocturnal abdominal pain, necessitates further investigation, including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an increasingly recognized chronic, immune-mediated esophageal disorder. Its hallmark clinical manifestation is dysphagia, frequently presenting as food bolus impaction. In the pediatric population, symptoms may be nonspecific, and

Metastatic Disease to a Concurrent Thyroid Neoplasm: A Case Series and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Metastatic disease to the thyroid gland is uncommon but well-described. Metastatic disease to a concurrent primary thyroid neoplasm is a rare phenomenon. We sought to study patients with metastasis to the thyroid with a focus on the histopathologic and clinical features in tumor-to-tumor metastasis. METHODS: We identified a series of patients with metastatic disease to the thyroid, with or without a concurrent primary neoplasm, through a search of the files of the Department of Pathology. All relevant slides were retrieved and reviewed, including routine HE and immunohistochemical

Deprescribing Strategies for Opioids and Benzodiazepines with Emphasis on Concurrent Use: A Scoping Review.

While the Food and Drug Administration's black-box warnings caution against concurrent opioid and benzodiazepine (OPI-BZD) use, there is little guidance on how to deprescribe these medications. This scoping review analyzes the available opioid and/or benzodiazepine deprescribing strategies from the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases (01/1995-08/2020) and the gray literature. We identified 39 original research studies (opioids: n = 5, benzodiazepines: n = 31, concurrent use: n = 3) and 26 guidelines (opioids: n = 16, benzodiazepines: n = 11, concurrent use: n

Concurrent cervical and craniofacial pain. A review of empiric and basic science evidence.

Because many patients present themselves for treatment with both craniofacial and craniocervical pain, 2 questions arise: (1) What are the sensory and motor consequences of dysfunction in either of these areas on the other? (2) Do craniofacial and craniocervical pain have a similar cause? These questions formed the impetus for this review article. The phenomenon of concurrent pain in craniofacial and cervical structures is considered, and clinical reports and opinions are presented regarding theories of cervical-to-craniofacial and craniofacial-to-cervical pain referral. Because pain referral

A Review of Concurrent Training Versus Moderate Intensity Continuous Training Cardiac Rehabilitation Modalities.

Moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) is the standard for exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Traditionally, resistance training has been used as an adjunctive modality; however, new evidence suggests aerobic exercise and resistance training are complementary, a combined approach called concurrent training (CT). The present review analyzed emergent scientific evidence of programmatic efficacy of CT vs MICT. Analyses focused on five primary outcomes: aerobic capacity, cardiovascular performance, cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk fac

Membranous nephropathy concurrent with renal amyloidosis: a six-patient report and literature review.

The KDIGO 2021 guidelines suggest that individuals who test positive for serum anti-phospholipase A2 receptor (anti-PLA2R) antibodies may not require a renal biopsy to establish a diagnosis of membranous nephropathy (MN). However, it is imperative to acknowledge that MN can coexist with other chronic kidney diseases. In instances where MN is comorbid with IgA nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, the therapeutic approach tends to be analogous. Nevertheless, there is a significant disparity in both the treatment regimen and the prognosis between MN and renal

Displaced Orbital Fractures with Concurrent Orbital Compartment Syndrome: A Case-Based Systematic Review.

Orbital compartment syndrome (OCS) is an emergency that complicates intra-orbital, retrobulbar hemorrhage in most cases. Bony orbital decompression is an effective treatment for OCS, and displaced orbital fractures are protective. Nevertheless, in rare cases, OCS occurs despite a displaced orbital fracture. The aim of the current review is to present its pathophysiology and management based on what is published in the medical literature, and our center's experience. A systematic review of literature was conducted through PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane from inception through February 202

Advancements in penile lengthening techniques concurrent with penile prosthesis placement: a narrative review.

Penile prosthetic devices stand as the foremost solution for medication-resistant erectile dysfunction. Frequently, medical conditions triggering erectile dysfunction also led to penile shortening, detrimentally impacting patients' quality of life. This narrative review aims to explore and evaluate the various techniques available for penile lengthening that can be performed concurrently with inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) insertion. We conducted a comprehensive examination of the literature, utilizing PubMed focusing on key terms such as "penile prosthesis corporal length", "inflatable pe
