Rare isolated coracoid mid-process fracture with displacement in an adolescent: Case report.

Isolated coracoid fractures (ICFs) are rare and the management is controversial. In this article, we report a displaced ICF, treated conservatively with success. A 12-year-old male patient presented with mild pain in his right shoulder after simple fall. Physical examination was normal except mild tenderness on the coracoid process and mildly limited active shoulder motion. Plain radiographs did not demonstrate any apparent finding of pathology. Computed tomography (CT) images revealed isolated coracoid mid-process fracture with displacement. Significant symptomatic relief as well as sufficien

Concomitant Coracoid Process Fracture with Bony Bankart Lesion Treated with the Latarjet Procedure.

Bony lesions of the glenoid and Hill-Sachs lesions are the most common injuries after a first-time traumatic shoulder dislocation. However, fracture of the coracoid process after traumatic shoulder dislocation is rare. A single, open surgical procedure could be performed by a Latarjet procedure using a fractured fragment of the coracoid process. If a fracture of the coracoid process is associated with a traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation, the Latarjet procedure may be the most appropriate surgical option.

Delayed diagnosis of isolated coracoid process fractures: results of 9 cases treated conservatively.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Isolated coracoid process fractures are more frequent than what has formerly been believed. Delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis are not infrequent as it is difficult to notice this injury using routine radiographic projections of the shoulder. In any event, more specific views are prescribed only when a fracture is suspected. The purpose of this study is to assess the outcomes of 9 cases of isolated coracoids fractures treated conservatively after being undiagnosed and discuss the reasons of these delayed diagnoses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 1984 and June 2011,

Tuberculous Osteomyelitis of the Coracoid Process Presenting as Shoulder Pain: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health challenge, with 10.6 million new cases and 1.3 million deaths reported in 2022. Extrapulmonary TB accounts for approximately 16% of all cases, with osteoarticular TB being a notable subset. Tubercular arthritis of the knee is a rare manifestation, often misdiagnosed due to its atypical presentation. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is considered the treatment of choice in advanced cases; however, evidence on outcomes in cases with incidental tubercular findings remains limited. This report highlights a case of tubercular arthriti

The morphometry of the coracoid process - its aetiologic role in subcoracoid impingement syndrome.

Anatomical morphometric studies of the coracoid process and coraco-glenoid space were carried out on 204 dry scapulae. No statistically significant correlations were found between length, or thickness of the coracoid process, prominence of the coracoid tip, coracoid slope, coraco-glenoid distance, or position of the coracoid tip with respect to the uppermost point of the glenoid. These anatomical characteristics were independent of the dimensions of the scapulae. Three configurations of the coraco-glenoid space were identified. Type I configuration was found in 45% of scapulae and Type II and

Treatment of coracoid process fractures combined with acromioclavicular joint dislocation using clavicular hook plate.

BACKGROUND: The injury mechanism of acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation combined with coracoid process (CP) fracture is not clear, and there is no consensus on its treatment. This study was performed to evaluate the diagnosis of CP fractures combined with AC dislocation and the effectiveness of operative treatment using a clavicular hook plate. METHODS: Eighteen patients with CP fractures combined with AC dislocation were treated with a clavicular hook plate from May 2012 to June 2021. The patients comprised 10 male and 8 female patients with an average age of 38 years (range, 16-54 years). Th

Radiological study of the Asian coracoid process and clavicle: Implications for coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction.

PURPOSE: Iatrogenic coracoid and clavicle fracture is a known complication of drilling bone tunnels during anatomic coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction (ACCR). This study aims to measure the dimensions of coracoid process and clavicle in an Asian population to evaluate the suitability of drilling coracoid and clavicle tunnels for ACCR in Asians. METHODS: Width measurements of 196 coracoids and 189 clavicles were obtained after reviewing all computed tomography (CT) scans of the shoulder performed over a 6 years period. Coracoid measurements were made on the CT slice which showed the maxi

Anatomical study of the coracoid process in Mongolian male cadavers using the Latarjet procedure.

BACKGROUND: The Latarjet procedure addresses recurrent anterior shoulder instability in the context of a significant bony defect. However, the bony and soft tissue anatomy of the coracoid in coracoid transfer procedures has not yet been defined in Mongolian men. The aims of this study were to describe the soft tissue attachments of the coracoid regarding the bony anatomy, define the average amount of bone available for coracoid transfer, analyze the characteristics of the pectoralis minor and coracoid, and study the relationship between the bony dimensions of the coracoid and body length in Mo

[A case of acromioclavicular dislocation without coracoclavicular ligament rupture accompanied by coracoid process fracture].

Acromioclavicular joint dislocation with intact coracoclavicular ligaments accompanied by fracture of the coracoid process is a rare injury. The patients are treated with conservative and/or surgical methods. A 30-year-old male patient developed type 3 acromioclavicular dislocation and coracoid process fracture due to a fall in the right shoulder. Both injuries were treated surgically. Following open reduction, the acromioclavicular joint was fixed with a Knowles pin, and the coracoid process was fixed with a 4.0-mm malleolar screw. Active-assisted rehabilitation of the shoulder was initiated

Musculocutaneous nerve injury after coracoid process transfer for clavicle instability. Report of three cases.

During the last 10 years, we have treated 54 cases of fracture or dislocation of the lateral clavicle by transposing the coracoid process onto the clavicle. Recently, a postoperative musculocutaneous nerve injury was observed in 3 cases, all of which recovered spontaneously within 5 months. Our technique seems to entail a certain risk of causing stretch injury to the musculocutaneous nerve. Apart from resting the affected arm for a month or two, the condition does not require specific treatment.

Antero-inferior glenohumeral instability is associated with an abnormal position of the coracoid process.

BACKGROUND: The role of morphologic variation in the etiology of antero-inferior glenohumeral instability (GHAI) remains debated. Clinically, the coracoid process (CP) varies in size and position, and simple coracoid lowering ("Trillat procedure") can prevent recurrent anterior dislocation. Additionally in some cases, fracture of the coracoid is necessary for an anterior dislocation to occur. Therefore, the CP position relative to the glenoid center was compared in stable and unstable shoulders, hypothesizing that the CP tip is more superior, more medial, and more anterior in patients with rec

Relationship of the Musculocutaneous Nerve and Its Twigs to the Coracoid Process: An Operative Exposure.

BACKGROUND: A musculocutaneous nerve (MCN) injury is a rare complication of the Latarjet procedure. Most of these injuries are neurapraxias and resolve with time; however, permanent injuries can occur. Understanding the anatomy and relationship of the MCN to the coracoid process is essential to prevent injuries. PURPOSE: To provide realistic, in situ-referenced measurements for the Latarjet procedure. STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive laboratory study. METHODS: A total of 12 matched-pair cadaveric specimens (24 fresh-frozen shoulders) were dissected. Coracoid osteotomy was performed, and the MCN an

Ipsilateral nonunions of the coracoid process and distal clavicle--a rare shoulder girdle fracture pattern.

Coracoid fractures are uncommon injuries, in isolation or in association with other osseoligamentous injuries about the shoulder girdle. We report a case of successful operative management of symptomatic ipsilateral nonunions of a type I coracoid base fracture and a lateral one-third clavicular fracture, which developed following nonoperative treatment of this exceedingly rare injury pattern. Following open distal clavicle excision and reduction of the coracoclavicular interval with screw fixation, radiographic union and excellent clinical outcome were achieved. This rare and potentially troub
