BACKGROUND: Cupping therapy is a complementary and alternative medical therapy used especially in pain management. It is generally considered a safe procedure, but complications, including life-threatening infection, may still occur. Understanding these complications is essential to safe and evidence-based use of cupping in practice.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here we report a rare case of disseminated Staphylococcus aureus infection after cupping therapy. After wet cupping, a 33-year-old immunocompetent woman developed fever, myalgia, and a productive cough accompanied by acute liver and kidney inju

Substance use disorder is a psychiatric problem not bound by age, sex, ethnicity, sexual preference, geography, socio-economic status, educational level, or political and religious ideologies. While robust pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy treatments are available for de-addiction and managing withdrawal symptoms, patients from rural areas and lower socio-economic classes often prefer alternative medicine. Cupping therapy is one such ancient practice used mainly for organic physical conditions. A patient addicted to alprazolam, codeine, and tobacco presented to our psychiatry outpatient depart

Psoriasis, an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disorder, poses challenges for topical treatment due to the thickening of the stratum corneum, hindering drug penetration. Furthermore, long-term use of chemical drugs may lead to immunosuppression and abnormal hepatic or renal dysfunction. Inspired by traditional Chinese fire cupping (Ba Huo Guan), a negative-pressure microneedle syringe therapy has been proposed here for psoriasis treatment. This microneedle syringe demonstrated an enhanced transepidermal drug delivery efficiency. Additionally, the microneedles contain nanoparticles sel
