Cyberbullying is attracting social, political, and academic interest as the use of electronic devices such as computers and mobile phones by young people has increased dramatically. However, little is known about the factors involved in their perpetration, particularly in the context of college students' dating relationships. The aim of this study is to examine the involvement of college students in cyberbullying in the context of their dating relationships and to explore the impact of sexism on males' cyberbullying of their girlfriends. Participants are 219 undergraduate students from a unive

Cyberbullying is a major public health problem associated with serious mental, social, and academic consequences for young people. To date, few programs addressing cyberbullying have been developed and empirically tested. The Cyber Friendly Schools (CFS) group-randomized controlled trial measured the longitudinal impact of a whole-school online cyberbullying prevention and intervention program, developed in partnership with young people. Non-government secondary schools in Perth, Western Australia, (N = 35; 3,000+ students) were randomized to an intervention (n = 19) or usual practice control

The rise of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has expanded the landscape of cyberbullying, necessitating an examination of the psychological and demographic factors underlying these behaviors. This two-wave longitudinal study (N = 1,019) investigated the associations between Dark Tetrad, gender, age, and GAI-involved cyberbullying (GAICB) over a 6-month interval. Hierarchical linear regressions indicated that psychopathy and male gender were longitudinal predictors of GAICB at Time 2, even after controlling for baseline behaviors at Time 1. While sadism was significant in the baseline m

BACKGROUND: Adolescent cyberbullying has been a persistent issue, exacerbated by the shift to remote learning and increased screen time during the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes have sparked concerns about potential increases in cyberbullying and its associated risks.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore how factors such as age, exposure to violent media, parental communication quality, internet access, sex, and sibling relationships influence cyberbullying behavior at school. Additionally, we examine how the COVID-19 pandemic may have altered these dynamics.
METHODS: Leveraging a panel d

This cross-sectional study assessed data from Brazil's 2019 National Student Health Survey to investigate associations between cyberbullying and sociodemographic, family, mental health, and behavioural factors among Brazilian schoolchildren. Multivariate analysis by Poisson regression found 13.2% prevalence of cyberbullying, which was higher among adolescents who felt nobody cared about them (PR=1.47; 1.36-1.59); felt sad (PR=1.5; 1.4-1.7); reported that life was not worth living (PR=1.71; 1.59-1.84); had no friends (PR=1.68; 1.50-1.87); suffered parental aggression (PR=1.54; 1.45-1.65); misse

Examining the associations between cyberbullying involvement and psychoeducational factors may contribute to a better understanding of adolescents' experiences in online peer contexts. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between cyberbullying involvement, considering the roles of cybervictim, cyberaggressor, and cyberbystander, and three psychoeducational constructs: social anxiety, school refusal, and academic goals. A total of 1,412 Spanish secondary and upper-secondary school students aged 12-18 years (M = 14.36, SD = 1.65) completed a battery of questionnaires assessing c

The aim of this study was to test a model in which psychopathic traits (callous-unemotional, grandiose-manipulative, and impulsive-irresponsible) and moral disengagement individually and interactively predict two types of bullying (traditional and cyberbullying) in a community sample of adolescents. A total of 765 adolescents (464 girls and 301 boys) completed measures of moral disengagement and psychopathic traits at Time 1, and measures of bullying and cyberbullying at Time 1 and 1 year later, at Time 2. The results showed that callous-unemotional traits predicted both traditional bullying a

Cyberbullying can be prevalent across different life stages, with lasting traces on mental health across the lifespan. This study aims to (a) explore how cyberbullying is emotionally experienced across three distinct age groups and (b) analyze the influence of cyberbullying on mental health across the lifespan. This study included 883 participants divided into three age groups: 18-39, 40-59, and 60+. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather participants' experiences and perspectives. The data were then subjected to content analysis, which revealed a number of themes. The fi

Nowadays, children are able to enrich their reality via the Internet. Unfortunately, this may increase their risk of becoming victims of cyberbullying. We analyzed the health characteristics and risk behavior of two cohorts of children in Serbia; those who reported being exposed to cyberbullying and those who did not. The statistical differences and logistic regression models were applied to the data on 3267 students collected from 64 schools participating in the 2017 Serbian Study on health behavior in school-age children (HBSC). Children exposed to cyberbullying reported having the following

Cyberbullying is a new form of aggression and can have serious consequences. Although the influencing factors of cyberbullying have been explored in the literature, less is known of the longitudinal effects of relative deprivation on cyberbullying and the mediating mechanisms underlying the effect. In this study, we explored these problems. A total of 1143 undergraduates (62.9% women, mean age = 19.46, standard deviation [SD] = 0.95) participated in three rounds of a longitudinal survey with an interval of 6 months and completed a series of self-reported questionnaires assessing relative depri

Workplace cyberbullying is an emergent psychosocial risk at work that compromises employees' health and well-being. However, there is lack of validated measures in Spanish to assess this issue. Thus, this study aims to validate the Inventory of Cyberbullying Acts at Work (ICA-W) in a sample of Spanish employees (N1 = 498) and to develop an ultra-short version, which was subsequently tested in a second representative sample (N2 = 1,995). Confirmatory factor analysis supported the original three-factor structure (comprising work-related, person-related, and intrusive cyberbullying behaviors) and

This study investigates the relationships between cybervictimization, cyberbullying, Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), depression, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms in adolescents with a history of cybervictimization. A clinical sample of 89 adolescents aged 12-17 years was assessed using standardized diagnostic interviews and self-report scales. Correlation and regression analyses revealed that depression severity was independently associated with cybervictimization, age, and IGD severity. Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms were significantly associated with

INTRODUCTION: Although both nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and cyberbullying (CB) are very common among adolescents, there are only a few studies examining the relationship between the two phenomena. The aim of our study was to explore the relationship between CB and NSSI, and to examine the potential mediating effects of anxiety and depression.
METHODS: 119 Hungarian adolescents (70% female, 13-18-year-olds) were involved in the study. A self-report questionnaire about CB, the Inventory of Statements About Self-injury, and the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview - Kid were administ

BACKGROUND: The transition from being a victim of traditional bullying to engaging in cyberbullying is an emerging area of research. However, not all adolescents who experience traditional bullying go on to perpetrate cyberbullying. Grounded in the General Aggression Model, this study investigates the longitudinal association between traditional bullying victimization and cyberbullying perpetration, focusing on the underlying mechanisms.
METHODS: In a longitudinal design, 442 middle school students (49.80% female, Mage = 13.02, SD = 0.85) completed a survey including the Victim Scale, Anger R

The popularity of the Internet has led to an increase in cybervictimization and cyberbullying. Many studies have focused on the factors influencing cybervictimization or cyberbullying, but few have researched the mechanism that mediates these phenomena. Therefore, in this study, we use a chain mediation model to explore the mechanisms of cybervictimization and cyberbullying. This research is based on the general aggression model and examines whether stress and rumination play a mediating role in the relationship between cybervictimization and cyberbullying among Chinese college students. This
