The relationship between adenofibroma and cystadenofibroma and the frequency and features of carcinomas developed on these benign tumours are little known. Eight-hundred and forty-five epithelial tumours of the ovary diagnosed over a 10-year period have been re-examined. One-hundred and eighteen adenofibromas and cystadenofibromas were recorded. BACKGROUND: Type A insulin resistance syndrome is a rare disorder caused by mutations in the gene encoding the insulin receptor. Its coexistence with ovarian serous papillary cystadenofibroma is even rarer.

Microscopic, heterotopic extraovarian sex cord-stromal proliferations have only recently been reported in the literature. We describe the largest series to date, of 30 cases of microscopic, incidentally detected, heterotopic extraovarian sex cord-stromal proliferation, in women aged 25-79 yr who had undergone surgery for a range of benign and malignant gynecologic conditions. This paper reports on a 56-year-old patient with a history of "testicular feminization syndrome" who was admitted to hospital because of a rapid gain in her abdominal girth (106 cm). A benign cyst was removed laparotomically which, histologically, was equivalent to a cystadenofibroma. Based on this case report, the clinical significance of testicular feminization syndrome and the necessity for gonadectomy due to the risk of growth of a possibly malignant tumor are discussed.

The Müllerian adenosarcoma is an extremely rare entity of tumours of the group of the Müllerian and mesodermal mixed tumours. This tumour seems to be a malignant transformation of the uterine papillary cystadenofibroma. The periglandular malignant transformation of the stromal component and the benign glandular structures are typical signs of the Müllerian adenosarcoma. In accordance with references the prognosis of the adenosarcoma is better than those of other Müllerian mixed tumours. The demonstrated cases warn against undervalue.

A case of endometrioid adenofibroma of the ovary with omental implants, extensive invasion into the wall of the ipsilateral fallopian tube, and collision with an endometrial papillary adenocarcinoma is reported. Fewer than 35 malignant cystadenofibromas and adenofibromas have been reported. In all of these cases, the malignant epithelium was believed to originate from preexisting benign tumors. This case is unusual in that it demonstrated no malignant epithelium beyond that of a borderline tumor, but met the criteria of malignancy because of its invasiveness and metastasis.

A case of a 61-year-old patient is reported who underwent laparotomy for presumptive torsion of an ovarian tumor. The acute abdominal symptoms were caused by a fish bone which had perforated the omentum. Bilateral ovarian cystadenofibromas were present, yet torsion had not occurred; they were exstirpated. In addition, a case of a 70-year-old patient is presented who underwent relaparotomy for a cervicosigmoidal fistula. The fistula contained a poultry rib. Complete healing was observed after removal of the bone and suturing of the cervical sigmoidal defects.

Actinomycotic infections of the female genital tract are rare. In relation of clinical symptoms and therapeutical implications, reactive and non-reactive infections can be distinguished. During a period of seven years we observed five reactive infections. All these cases with tubo-ovarian abscesses (TOA) were seen in women using intrauterine devices (IUD) for 9.8 years on average. 9.1% of all TOA in this period were caused by actinomyces.
