Cystoscopically Guided Repair of a Posterior Perforation of Augmented Bladder.

Background: Augmentation cystoplasty for the management of neurogenic bladder is one of the mainstays of pediatric urology. This procedure has multiple well-known complications. The most dangerous of these complications is bladder perforation, which has a mortality rate of 23% to 25% in large part caused by delayed presentation and sepsis. This case report discusses a novel method for identifying the perforation using endourologic techniques to allow for easier repair. Case Presentation: A 24-year-old woman with a history of spina bifida s/p augmentation cystoplasty with appendicovesicostomy a

Cystoscopic diagnosis of polypoid cystitis in two pet rabbits.

CASE DESCRIPTION AS-year-old male Dwarf rabbit and 4-year-old female Mini-Rex rabbit were evaluated because of anorexia and urine scalding of the perineum. CLINICAL FINDINGS Abdominal radiography revealed a diffuse increase in the opacity of the urinary bladder attributable to urinary sludge. In 1 rabbit, abdominal ultrasonography revealed several mass-like lesions protruding from the mucosal surface into the lumen of the urinary bladder. Rabbits were anesthetized, and cystoscopy was performed with a rigid 2.7-mm, 30° endoscope. Histologic analysis of tissue samples obtained through the cystos

Cystoscopic placement of transurethral stent in a fetus with urethral stenosis.

We report the case of a fetus with severe megabladder, displaying the 'keyhole' sign on ultrasound imaging, that underwent cystoscopy at 22 weeks' gestation. There was a familial history of mild urethral atresia. Fetal cystoscopy revealed congenital urethral atresia. A guide wire was advanced through the fetal urethra and a transurethral vesicoamniotic stent was placed successfully. The fetus was delivered at 36 weeks' gestation and postnatal cystoscopy confirmed the absence of posterior urethral valves or urethral atresia. The infant was 5 years old with normal renal function at the time of w

Practical cystoscopy: care of the instruments and preparation for a cystoscopic examination.

Periodically, a look at the past helps health care professionals see how much practice has changed as well as how some concepts and practices remain similar to the original rationales and techniques. Two chapters from a 1911 textbook on cystoscopy have been reprinted that describe catheter and instrument care and preprocedure requirements for cystoscopy performed in the hospital, office, or home. Sterilization methods and instruments for cystoscopy have improved in the century since this book was written but the rationale for the procedure and concepts guiding the instrumentation have some sim

Cystoscopic fistulography: a new technique for the diagnosis of vesicocervical fistula.

BACKGROUND: Most fistulas communicating with the bladder are large enough to be diagnosed easily, or small enough to close spontaneously without clinical sequel. A vesicocervical fistula is an uncommon event and may be difficult to diagnose. TECHNIQUE: During an operative cystourethroscopy procedure, suspicious areas of the bladder can be probed with a cone tip catheter and injected with contrast dye to visualize the suspected fistula communicating with the bladder. EXPERIENCE: This technique was employed when a double dye test, an intravenous urogram, a cystogram, a computed tomography scan

Cystoscopic transurethral incision in simplex and duplex ureteroceles-is it the definitive procedure?

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of primary cystoscopic transurethral incision (CTUI) in the management of paediatric ureteroceles. The secondary aim is to compare the efficacy of CTUI between simplex and duplex systems. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective review of consecutive paediatric patients requiring surgical intervention for ureterocele. Data collected for analysis included demographics, diagnostic, pre-operative investigations, operative interventions and postoperative variables. RESULTS: Over a 19-year period, 79 consecutive cases were identifi

Cystoscope-Assisted Laparoscopic Enucleation of a Large Progressive Bladder Leiomyoma.

Background: A bladder leiomyoma is a rare and benign bladder tumor. There are no established guidelines for the surgical treatment of this tumor. A transurethral approach for resection or surgical enucleation of the tumor is difficult, especially in patients with a large-sized leiomyoma. Therefore, a partial cystectomy is often indicated. In this case, we effectively performed a cystoscope-assisted laparoscopic enucleation of an intramural bladder leiomyoma. Case Presentation: A 46-year-old female was incidentally found to have a large tumor on the left wall of her urinary bladder. The MRI and

Cystoscopic-assisted excision of rectourethral fistulas in males with anorectal malformations.

INTRODUCTION: We report a novel technique to label rectourethral fistulas in males with anorectal malformations who are undergoing posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) to facilitate complete excision of the fistula. METHODS: Prior to performing PSARP in 21 male patients with rectourethral fistulas, cystoscopy was carried out to identify the orifice of the fistula within the urethra. A 3Fr ureteral catheter with calibrations was then inserted into the orifice to label the fistula. During the PSARP procedure, the rectourethral fistula was dissected to the junction of the urethra, as identi

Surgical technique: utriculus masculinum excision by a laparoscopic-cystoscopic approach.

OBJECTIVE: A utriculus masculinum is encountered in 12% of hypospadias. However, patients rarely present with symptoms, such as post-void incontinence or infection. We describe a combined laparoscopic-cystoscopic approach to overcome the challenge posed by the location of the utriculus deep within the pelvis and to accurately identify the confluence of the utriculus with the urethra. METHODS: A 12-year-old boy with Williams syndrome and previous hypospadias surgery presented with new-onset progressive day-time incontinence. Investigations (cystoscopy, urodynamics, MCUG) demonstrated a normal

Sex Differences in Cystoscopic Findings Among Veterans With Interstitial Cystitis.

PURPOSE: Previous studies have found significant sex differences in symptoms among patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). However, whether this translates into differences in pathology as observed on cystoscopy is unknown. We sought to assess cystoscopic findings in veterans diagnosed with IC/BPS and to identify possible sex differences in cystoscopic findings. METHODS: This was a retrospective study of all hospital visits in the Veteran Health Affairs Hospital System between October 2004 and July 2016. Patients with IC/BPS were identified from the Veteran Informa
