A trial placement of a prophylactic ureteral catheter during the excision of a huge pelvic mass with incidental cystotomy.

Ureteral injuries are one of the major complications following gynecologic surgeries. They are serious, troublesome, often associated with significant morbidity, and are one of the most common causes for legal action against gynecologic surgeons. The reported rates of injury depend on the vigilance of diagnosis, type of surgery and other risk factors. We present a case of a 48 year old obese Caucasian female with no significant past medical history who came in with back pain and progressive abdominal swelling for the past three months and was found to have a very large pelvic mass. After preop

Popliteal artery occlusion caused by cystic adventitial disease: successful treatment by urokinase followed by nonresectional cystotomy.

Preoperative diagnosis of an occluded popliteal artery caused by cystic adventitial disease allowed use of urokinase to successfully dissolve secondary thrombosis. Subsequent non-resectional adventitial cystotomy and evacuation of cyst contents allowed lasting restoration of a patent arterial lumen and return of normal distal pulses. This nongrafting technique may serve as a model for future patients with occluded arteries caused by this condition.

Retrospective comparison of open vs minimally invasive cystotomy in 28 cats using a composite outcome score.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of cats undergoing open cystotomy with those undergoing minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for removal of cystic calculi by use of a composite outcome score. METHODS: Twenty-eight cats were retrospectively enrolled and divided into two groups: open cystotomy (n = 14) and MIS (n = 14). The primary outcome measure was a composite outcome score, including three variables: pain scores ⩾2 at either 6 or 12 h postoperatively; failure to remove all stones as determined by postoperative radiographs; and postoperative complications requiring

Successful management of severe refractory haemorrhagic cystitis secondary to cyclophosphamide and BK virus with cystotomy and alum infusion.

A 36-year-old male patient is referred for urology review for haematuria following cyclophosphamide and mesna administration for allogeneic stem cell transplant for treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Severe haematuria continued despite multiple interventions including continuous bladder irrigation and cystoscopic fulguration, with formation of consolidated clot in the bladder. A successful cystotomy for removal of clot and initiation of alum was performed, leading to resolution of haematuria.

Laparoscopic transvesical vesicovaginal fistula repair with the least invasive way: Only three trocars and a limited posterior cystotomy.

OBJECTIVE: Two conventional approaches for vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) repair are transabdominal repair for supratrigonal VVF and transvaginal approach for low lying fistulae. Laparoscopic surgery was introduced to duplicate the surgical steps of the transabdominal approach with reduction in morbidity. We report a series of patients treated with a modified laparoscopic technique which includes the use of only three trocars and a limited posterior cystotomy. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the data of eight patients who underwent laparoscopic VVF repair with our standardized technique fro

Hematuria and clot retention after Burch colposuspension and Cystofix suprapubic catheterization: suprapubic cystotomy as an alternative suprapubic drainage method.

Suprapubic catheterization is a common procedure in continence surgery and hematuria is a common complication after suprapubic catheterization. The authors report an unusual case of acute clot retention after the removal of a Cystofix suprapubic catheter in a patient who had had a Burch colposuspension. Suprapubic cystotomy as an alternate suprapubic method is also discussed.

[Mid-uretral retropubic TVT sling procedure complicated by intraoperative cystotomy (bladder injury): Is it possible to avoid postoperative indwelling catheter?].

OBJECTIVE: Retropubic mid-uretral sling (MUS) procedure may be complicated by bladder injury (intraoperative cystotomy). There is no scientific consensus on the length of catheter drainage following bladder injury during MUS procedure: it varies from hours to days. We have made it our policy to immediately remove the catheter. The objective of the current study was to assess the results associated with immediate removal of catheter drainage following intraoperative bladder injury during retropubic MUS procedure. METHODS: Retrospective case-control study. Group 1 (cases): 8 women who have expe
