Morphometric parameters were measured and specific light optic features of epitheliocyte nuclei examined in the cytologic preparations from 67 patients with various abnormalities of the cervix uteri multi-layer squamous epithelium by a present-day long-distance microimage analyzer. The most informative biometric parameters were detected, role of DNA cytophotometry defined, and algorithm of differential diagnosis between benign conditions, dysplasia, and carcinoma developed.

Feulgen-acriflavine-SO2 staining was performed on chicken erythrocytes and rat liver cells under different cytochemical conditions. The obtained results were compared to conventional Feulgen-pararosaniline-SO2 staining by means of scanning cytophotometry and microfluorometry. It was found that if acid ethanol rinsing was included in the Feulgen-acriflavine-SO2 procedure, both Feulgen procedures were fully comparable in specificity and quantitative aspects.

Woringer-Kolopp disease is characterized by the presence of a monomorphic, tumorous infiltrate in the epidermis. A light- and electron microscopic study, and cytophotometry, of one case were performed and the results are discussed. Cytophotometric determinations of DNA were carried out with a pulse cytophotometer in peripheral blood leucocytes in 25 patients with infectious mononucleosis and 30 patients with other infectious diseases. DNA cytograms of patients with mononucleosis showed presence of a high percent of cells in phase S and G2+M of the cell cycle. Synthesis and the content of RNA and protein in cells of the pig embryo kidneys infected with tick--borne encephalitis virus were studied by means of autoradiography and cytophotometry. Between 26/2/88 and 23/6/88 we treated four patients with signet ring cell carcinoma of the urinary tract. There was no conformity in clinical development, results of laboratory investigations, histomorphology or symptoms. INTRODUCTION: Cellular analysis in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) provides important diagnostic information in many pathological settings. The aim of this two-site study was to evaluate the Sysmex XN Body Fluid mode (XN-BF) for cell analysis of CSF compared to light microscopy (LM).

Cytophotometry of rat blood erythroid cells during anaemia, induced by phenylhydrazin (4-8 days from the beginning of injections), revealed that all forms of bone marrow containing haemoglobin were thrown into the blood. Aspiration cytology smears from 24 breast alterations were subjected to cytophotometry and TV image analysis. The smears were grouped according to histological diagnosis and cytological pattern. Cell cycle parameters and DNA indices were calculated from the decomposition of the DNA histograms. In situ as well as extra situm cytochemical methods were used to investigate why the observed Feulgen-DNA value of sperm versus lymphocyte cells is lower than expected.
