Effects of dance-based movement therapy on balance, gait, and psychological functions in severe cerebellar ataxia: A case study.

Purpose: Individuals in the later stages of cerebellar ataxia usually experience serious balance and immobility problems. Currently, there is a lack of adequate rehabilitative programs for individuals with severe cerebellar ataxia that can help improve ataxia-related motor impairment. The purpose of the present study was to explore the potential physiotherapeutic benefits of partnered dance on balance, motor functions, and psychological well-being in an individual demonstrating severe cerebellar ataxia symptoms. Methods: The individual was a 39-year-old male diagnosed with cerebellar atrophy.

The Global Mode of Experience in Psychodynamic Movement and Dance Therapy - Bodily Awareness as a Therapeutic Factor: Effects and Clinical Considerations.

Bodily awareness has become a central therapeutic factor in psychodynamic and body-oriented psychotherapies, yet its clinical effects and theoretical status remain insufficiently integrated. This paper offers a clinically grounded account of bodily awareness work in Psychodynamic Movement and Dance Therapy (PMT), conceptualising the body as the primary medium of lived experience rather than as an object of intervention. Drawing on phenomenology, developmental psychoanalysis, and clinical theory, the paper argues that therapeutic change in PMT unfolds through prereflective, embodied processes that p

Feasibility and acceptability of a mixed methods within-subjects comparative design in dance movement therapy for adults with personality disorders.

BACKGROUND: Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is an established treatment for adults diagnosed with personality disorders (PD). A central component of DMT is the creation of improvised dance material, which supports emotional expression and may enhance autonomy, self-efficacy, and well-being. However, structured dance-based micro-interventions derived from this practice have not yet been systematically described or evaluated. This study was the first attempt to examine the feasibility of implementing a within-subjects comparative study protocol and the acceptability of a structured dance-based micr

"No tears or brain words": A case report on single-session dance/movement therapy for individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

BACKGROUND: Individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) face a multitude of challenges in their lifetime including complex symptomatology, co-morbid health concerns, profound levels of stigmatization, and diminished access to quality care. Additionally, they are often the victims of unjust systemic biases and discrimination when they are able to engage with the healthcare system. This confluence of injustices leads to disparate physical and mental health outcomes for this vulnerable population. Globally, schizophrenia affects over 24 million, many of whom are experiencin

The Potential Benefits of Dance Movement Therapy in Improving Couple Relations of Individuals Diagnosed With Autism Spectrum Disorder-A Review.

A review of current literature indicates that adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) feel the need for intimate and sexual relationships and maintain such relationships despite and alongside their difficulties in emotional communication, social interactions, reciprocity, and verbal and non-verbal expression. This understanding calls for the development of intervention programs designed to support the specific needs and address the problems of couples where one partner is diagnosed with ASD. In view of the relevance and significant part played by body and movement in emotional dev

Comparing short to standard duration of antibiotic therapy for patients hospitalized with cellulitis (DANCE): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Recommended therapy duration for patients hospitalized with cellulitis is 10-14 days. Unnecessary use of antibiotics is one of the key factors driving resistance. Recent studies have shown that antibiotic therapy for cellulitis in outpatients can safely be shortened, despite residual inflammation. This study will compare in hospitalized patients the safety and effectiveness of shortening antibiotic therapy for cellulitis from 12 to 6 days. METHODS/DESIGN: In a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, non-inferiority trial, adult patients admitted with cellulitis will be included. Ce
