DeepClaw 2.0: A Data Collection Platform for Learning Human Manipulation.

Besides direct interaction, human hands are also skilled at using tools to manipulate objects for typical life and work tasks. This paper proposes DeepClaw 2.0 as a low-cost, open-sourced data collection platform for learning human manipulation. We use an RGB-D camera to visually track the motion and deformation of a pair of soft finger networks on a modified kitchen tong operated by human teachers. These fingers can be easily integrated with robotic grippers to bridge the structural mismatch between humans and robots during learning. The deformation of soft finger networks, which reveals tact

Electronic protocol for clinical data collection in chronic visceral ischemia.

Patients with vascular diseases present with a long medical history which makes for complex and confusing medical records. Electronic record systems have a large storage capacity and high information processing capabilities, and may therefore improve the quality and reliability of prospective clinical studies. In the present study, a theoretical framework for clinical data collection in chronic visceral ischemia was created containing 5706 items, organized into six major categories: medical history, physical examination, laboratory testing, diagnosis, treatment and outcome. The database was us

Collection, verification, sharing and dissemination of data: the CONTRAST experience.

The scientific community is charged with growing demands regarding the management of project data and outputs and the dissemination of key results to various stakeholders. We discuss experiences and lessons from CONTRAST, a multidisciplinary alliance that had been funded by the European Commission over a 4-year period, in order to optimize schistosomiasis control and transmission surveillance in sub-Saharan Africa. From the start, project partners from Europe and Africa set out an ambitious goal: to sample data following standard protocols at all field sites and then sharing the data in a way

The collection of general practice data for psychiatric service contracts.

A three-month prospective collection of primary care data from general surgery attendances in an inner London Health District was carried out to inform the setting of contracts for psychiatric services. This involved 21 general practitioners (GPs) selected from a total of 102 in the District. Information was collected on mental health disorders detected by GPs among the attenders, the resultant volume of care provided by the GPs, the referrals made to secondary care and other agencies, and the types of care identified by the practitioners as appropriate for a patient but which are currently no

Quality control of dietary data collection in the CARDIA study.

The Coronary Artery Risk Development in (Young) Adults (CARDIA) Study developed and implemented quality control (QC) measures to minimize misclassification associated with dietary data. Manual and automated data inspection were used to monitor quality. Of the 5111 participants who completed a dietary history, 717 (14%) had dietary forms reviewed and 153 (3%) had the interview audiotaped. Results show that for the 717 forms reviewed, the overall form completion error rate was 0.22% and the "critical" error rate (i.e., those errors impacting on nutrient computations) was 0.12%. The proportion of

The accuracy of tooth loss data collected by nurses.

This paper reports on the accuracy of tooth counts conducted in 22 subjects by 10 trained nurses as part of a large longitudinal study of a pharmacological agent. These nurses participated in a training course consisting of seminars, discussion, demonstrations, and practice examinations. Each of the nurses then counted the teeth of 22 subjects and recorded their findings independently. The counts of the nurses were compared with those of the dentists to assess the accuracy of the nurses' counts. We found that nurses and dentists were in perfect agreement for 86% of the patient counts conducted

Electropalatographic data collected with and without a face mask.

This study investigates the extent to which the use of a face mask conveys linguopalatal contact changes during speech production. Electropalatographic data from five Catalan speakers were collected for different consonants, i.e., the alveolar stop [n], the alveolopalatal stop [n] and the palatal approximant [j], in the sequences [iCi] and [aCe]. Results for [n] indicate more closure retraction in the mask versus nonmask condition occurring presumably when the mask is pressed forcefully against the face in front of the mouth. The use of the mask for [n] and [j] causes an increase in dorsopalat

The impact of ChatGPT on human data collection: A case study involving typicality norming data.

Tools like ChatGPT, which allow people to unlock the potential of large language models (LLMs), have taken the world by storm. ChatGPT's ability to produce written output of remarkable quality has inspired, or forced, academics to consider its consequences for both research and education. In particular, the question of what constitutes authorship, and how to evaluate (scientific) contributions has received a lot of attention. However, its impact on (online) human data collection has mostly flown under the radar. The current paper examines how ChatGPT can be (mis)used in the context of generati

Evaluation of data collection and annotation approaches of driver gaze dataset.

Driver gaze estimation is important for various driver gaze applications such as building advanced driving assistance systems and understanding driver gaze behavior. Gaze estimation in terms of gaze zone classification requires large-scale labeled data for supervised machine learning and deep learning-based models. In this study, we collected a driver gaze dataset and annotated it using three annotation approaches - manual annotation, Speak2Label, and moving pointer-based annotation. Moving pointer-based annotation was introduced as a new data annotation approach inspired by screen-based gaze

The Proposition for Bipolar Depression Forecasting Based on Wearable Data Collection.

Bipolar depression is treated wrongly as unipolar depression, on average, for 8 years. It is shown that this mismedication affects the occurrence of a manic episode and aggravates the overall condition of patients with bipolar depression. Significant effort was invested in early detection of depression and forecasting of responses to certain therapeutic approaches using a combination of features extracted from standard and online testing, wearables monitoring, and machine learning. In the case of unipolar depression, this approach yielded evidence that this data-based computational psychiatry

Simplified data collection and analysis in a Schistosoma mansoni endemic area.

Proper data collection and analysis is one of the important factors to successfully carry out the surveys in Schistosoma mansoni endemic areas. The data needed can be divided into three main categories i.e. pre-survey, during the survey and follow up data. Various factors are considered important for correct data collection. Without proper data collection and analysis, future planning of the programme, monitoring of the operation, modifications, correct interpretation of the results and evaluation of the programme cannot be done. Hence correct decision on the future of the programme cannot be

Some guidelines for collection and reporting of nonhuman primate growth data.

Some basic guidelines were offered to aid researches in planning and implementing the collection and reporting of data on growth and development of nonhuman primates. Weight and linear dimensions are the most frequently used measures of growth, and asseous and dental development are the most useful indicators of general bodily maturity. Estimates of sexual development can be made from general bodily maturity but more accurate assessments are based on the appearance of certain secondary sex characters. The most useful growth data are obtained from repeated, regularly scheduled examinations of t

Current Data Collection Efforts in Neuromuscular Disease Research: A Scoping Review.

Neuromuscular diseases (NMDs) are rare, progressive, and clinically heterogeneous conditions that pose major challenges for research and data collection. High-quality, interoperable data are essential to advance understanding and support clinical trials, yet current practices remain fragmented. This scoping review, conducted in accordance with PRISMA-ScR guidelines, examines how data are collected and shared in NMD research, with a focus on digital platforms. Searches in Ovid MEDLINE ALL and Ovid Embase identified 4,249 records, of which 110 studies met inclusion criteria. These studies descri

Mortality Data Collection by Local Authorities Compared to a Cancer Registry.

BACKGROUND: Mortality data, i.e., information on whether individuals are living or dead and the causes of death, provide essential endpoints for the assessment of disease progression in clinical-epidemiological studies. In Germany, mortality data for scientific research are often available only through municipal offices, and rarely from registries. In this study, we collected and compared mortality data from these two sources. METHODS: As part of a study on the early detection of lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma, we collected mortality data on patients recruited in 2014-2015 and on contro
