The German Corona Consensus Dataset (GECCO): a standardized dataset for COVID-19 research in university medicine and beyond.

BACKGROUND: The current COVID-19 pandemic has led to a surge of research activity. While this research provides important insights, the multitude of studies results in an increasing fragmentation of information. To ensure comparability across projects and institutions, standard datasets are needed. Here, we introduce the "German Corona Consensus Dataset" (GECCO), a uniform dataset that uses international terminologies and health IT standards to improve interoperability of COVID-19 data, in particular for university medicine. METHODS: Based on previous work (e.g., the ISARIC-WHO COVID-19 case

Genome build information is an essential part of genomic track files.

Genomic locations are represented as coordinates on a specific genome build version, but the build information is frequently missing when coordinates are provided. We show that this information is essential to correctly interpret and analyse the genomic intervals contained in genomic track files. Although not a substitute for best practices, we also provide a tool to predict the genome build version of genomic track files.

Minimum dataset for treatment effectiveness in pyoderma gangrenosum for an international registry: an international multidisciplinary eDelphi consensus.

BACKGROUND: Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare, painful neutrophilic dermatosis with a profound impact on patient quality of life. Its management is hindered by a lack of approved therapies, limited clinical trials, and low-quality evidence. The rarity of the disease and funding constraints have impeded research progress and the development of standardized outcome measures. Patient data registries offer a promising solution to these challenges, providing essential infrastructure to improve the generation of evidence and clinical care. OBJECTIVES: To develop a consensus-based minimum dataset

Network Localization of Spontaneous Confabulation.

OBJECTIVE: Spontaneous confabulation is a symptom in which false memories are conveyed by the patient as true. The purpose of the study was to identify the neuroanatomical substrate of this complex symptom and evaluate the relationship to related symptoms, such as delusions and amnesia. METHODS: Twenty-five lesion locations associated with spontaneous confabulation were identified in a systematic literature search. The network of brain regions functionally connected to each lesion location was identified with a large connectome database (N=1,000) and compared with networks derived from lesion

COVID-19 Higher Mortality in Chinese Regions With Chronic Exposure to Lower Air Quality.

We investigated the geographical character of the COVID-19 infection in China and correlated it with satellite- and ground-based measurements of air quality. Controlling for population density, we found more viral infections in those prefectures (U.S. county equivalent) afflicted by high Carbon Monoxide, Formaldehyde, PM 2.5, and Nitrogen Dioxide values. Higher mortality was also correlated with relatively poor air quality. When summarizing the results at a greater administrative level, we found that the 10 provinces (U.S. state equivalent) with the highest rate of mortality by COVID-19, were

Intelligent Sensory Pen for Aiding in the Diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease from Dynamic Handwriting Analysis.

In this paper, we propose a pen device capable of detecting specific features from dynamic handwriting tests for aiding on automatic Parkinson's disease identification. The method used in this work uses machine learning to compare the raw signals from different sensors in the device coupled to a pen and extract relevant information such as tremors and hand acceleration to diagnose the patient clinically. Additionally, the datasets composed of raw signals from healthy and Parkinson's disease patients acquired here are made available to further contribute to research related to this topic.

TOPIC: A Parallel Association Paradigm for Multi-Object Tracking under Complex Motions and Diverse Scenes.

Video data and algorithms have been driving advances in multi-object tracking (MOT). While existing MOT datasets focus on occlusion and appearance similarity, complex motion patterns are widespread yet overlooked. To address this issue, we introduce a new dataset called BEE24 to highlight complex motions. Identity association algorithms have long been the focus of MOT research. Existing trackers can be categorized into two association paradigms: single-feature paradigm (based on either motion or appearance feature) and serial paradigm (one feature serves as secondary while the other is primary

A complete catalogue of human-infective RNA viruses.

RNA viruses are a pervasive and serious threat to human health. Here, we provide an updated catalogue of all 239 human-infective RNA virus species recognised by the end of 2024. Based on extensive literature searches, we provide metadata on the date and location of the first reported case of human infection, transmissibility in human populations, transmission route(s) and host range. We also provide links to publicly available genome sequence data. The dataset can be used in studies of the relationships between virus traits and public health threat, the phylogenetics of those traits, the geogr

Continuous observation of Parkinsonian symptoms using symptom diaries & wearable accelerometry.

Treatment adjustments in Parkinson's Disease (PD) are often based on clinical evaluations at single time points which are insufficient to adequately assess real-life motor fluctuations. Patient-written symptom diaries on the other hand are highly subjective and require well-educated and adherent patients to provide reliable results. Wearable accelerometry might provide a reliable, objective, and continuous diagnostic method to assess PD motor symptoms & fluctuations. However, large datasets of simultaneous sensor data and symptom diaries are needed for such method development and validation. W

Diabetic retinopathy detection based on mobile maxout network and weber local descriptor feature selection using retinal fundus image.

Retinal screening provides for earlier detection of diabetic retinopathy (DR) as well as prompt diagnosis. Recognizing DR utilizing color fundus imaging needs qualified specialists to know about the presence and significance of a few insignificant features that when it linked with complicated categorization structure create this as an engaging and difficult task. The automatic progression of DR detection consumes more time and cost. To conquer these gaps, a hybrid network structure for DR detection utilizing retinal fundus image named Mobile Maxout network (MM-Net). Here, MM-Net is merged with

A Novel Fusion Framework Combining Graph Embedding Class-Based Convolutional Recurrent Attention Network with Brown Bear Optimization Algorithm for EEG-Based Parkinson's Disease Recognition.

Parkinson's disease recognition (PDR) involves identifying Parkinson's disease using clinical evaluations, imaging studies, and biomarkers, focusing on early symptoms like tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia to facilitate timely treatment. However, due to noise, variability, and the non-stationary nature of EEG signals, distinguishing PD remains a challenge. Traditional deep learning methods struggle to capture the intricate temporal and spatial dependencies in EEG data, limiting their precision. To address this, a novel fusion framework called graph embedding class-based convolutional recurre
